golfsierra2 Posted April 1, 2010 Posted April 1, 2010 (edited) FC 2.0 Sound Mod Complaining about weak sounds for flaps, airbrake and gear ? This is it: Install this mod with ModMan 7.2.0.0 for improved sounds when in cockpit. Note: I know, that the cockpit sounds were tuned down to make it more realistic (because cockpit noise insulation is quite good and the pilot wears helmet and headphones), however, I like to have an audible feedback from the flaps, gear and airbrake so I don't have to watch the indicators all the time. I tweaked the sound.cfg but no effect there (can't have more than 100 % level (1.0) ), so I went for a straight approach and increased the volume of some ogg files. Some may say, it's OK, some may say that it's not OK, but I think everybody should sort that out for himself. Contact me for problems/ suggestions. http://remixshare.com/dl/qo9hx/FC 2.0 Sound Mod.zip http://rapidshare.com/files/370905438/FC_2.0_Sound_Mod.zip.html http://www.fileshost.com/download.php?id=C14610B31 Edited April 1, 2010 by golfsierra2 kind regards, Raven.... Ven Posted April 4, 2010 Posted April 4, 2010 Downloading... And louder flaps and brake sounds are nice but I'd really like to hear bullets hitting the hulls.
104th_Crunch Posted April 4, 2010 Posted April 4, 2010 Thanks GS, do you know what sound file it is for when a missile hits your plane?
ScEBlack1 Posted April 4, 2010 Posted April 4, 2010 (edited) is it possible to post a video with the sounds before people download them? sounds good though. Ok I tried them with modman and I like them alot, thanks. Edited April 4, 2010 by =ScE=Black1
HitchHikingFlatlander Posted April 4, 2010 Posted April 4, 2010 I tried it out last night and had mixed results, though I'm not sure if I reset the volumes in game that I had messed with before. I'm going to try again after double checking my sound settings. It did feel like the mechanical sounds were a little louder. Is there any way to up the engine sound a little too. Even if it isn't exactly realistic it definitely would seem to add immersion! Thanks for putting this together, how did you go about editing the individual sound files? Thanks, Chris http://dcs-mercenaries.com/ USA Squad
104th_Crunch Posted April 4, 2010 Posted April 4, 2010 Use a free sound editor like the great http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ go to sounds/effects Make backups! open the ogg files in the editor and change the volumes. If there are wav files in the effects folder they will play instead of the ogg files with the same names. Some files are not used any more and are used from elsewhere now in 2. Now sure where exactly though. Like I asked above, what sound file it is for when a missile hits your plane? Gotta turn up the boom. Although of course, that is the last sound I want to hear in the sim ;)
ScEBlack1 Posted April 5, 2010 Posted April 5, 2010 I also took one of the "cockpit systems" ogg file from zzzzzspaces sound mod from 1.12 with nice red flag radio comms and placed it into my cockpit, now I have excellent immersion with radio comms from red flag excersises, not good for online, but, great for single player campaign immersion or movies.
HitchHikingFlatlander Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 After testing this again and ensuring all my volumes were at max I find that the sound increases on the mechanical bits are still too low for my liking (flaps, gear, air brake etc.....) what are your default volume settings in the FC2 options are they all maxed out like mine (except for music)? It is a bit better though and I appreciate the effort! For added info I play sound through a 5.1 system (maybe I should set it up for stereo mode rather than surround....). http://dcs-mercenaries.com/ USA Squad
Ramstein Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 Although in a real jet, you can't hear the gear, flaps and brakes.....you can feel them. Since this is a game and we can't feel them, they made it to where you can hear them. This will help for the people that don't want to look down at their gauges. While in the USAF I flew in many jets, and I can assure you, you can hear just about anything that moves.. I was not a pilot, but, just the same, my ears worked just fine.. in this game, I would like my sounds louder in the cockpit, but then again I am much older now, so but stil think my ears should hears the flaps, engines and landing gear.. :pilotfly: ASUS Strix Z790-H, i9-13900, WartHog HOTAS and MFG Crosswind G.Skill 64 GB Ram, 2TB SSD EVGA Nvidia RTX 2080-TI (trying to hang on for a bit longer) 55" Sony OLED TV, Oculus VR
Zorrin Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 QTips? :P Eagles may soar, but weasels don't get sucked into jet engines.
Senti Posted April 8, 2010 Posted April 8, 2010 Thanks for making this mod golfsierra. For some reason I cannot hear the gear sound at all. It seems like it doesn't even exist. I even went back to the default gear sound and there's no sound at all. The flaps and brake sounds are fine. Any ideas?
golfsierra2 Posted April 8, 2010 Author Posted April 8, 2010 No ideas, sorry. The mod simply replaces some of the ogg files with ones that have increased volume settings. Anyway, you should have heard the original sounds before, otherwise your sound settings are not correct. kind regards, Raven.... [sigpic]http://www.crc-mindreader.de/CRT/images/Birds2011.gif[/sigpic]
ScEBlack1 Posted April 8, 2010 Posted April 8, 2010 GolfSierra what is best sound settings recommendation would you say?

Anyway, you should have heard the original sounds before, otherwise your sound settings are not correct. Thanks for the reply golfsierra. My sound setting is at default. I also checked the Sound\Effects folder and found that there are duplicate sound files (I found a couple of duplicate explosion files)in there. Do you have any duplicate sound files in your "Effects" folder? I'm curious because it could be that the FC2 install got messed up somewhere. I installed FC2 over a fresh install of Lock On from the cd.
Ghost Posted April 10, 2010 Posted April 10, 2010 I too feel as though the sounds are 'muted', especially when you get hit. Realism or not i like to hear whats going on and i reckon you would hear the explosion loud and clear if you got hit. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Ghost Posted April 10, 2010 Posted April 10, 2010 Maybe this can be fixed in a patch:music_whistling: [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

Breakshot Posted April 13, 2010 Posted April 13, 2010 Thanks GS, do you know what sound file it is for when a missile hits your plane? hehe... i sure hope i dont get to hear that sound too often! but i noticed there is a nice "Bang" now in FC2... heheh Tim "Breakshot" Mytrofanov | C.O. of 51 ПВО / 100 КИАП Regiments | twitch.tv/51breakshot
jspec3 Posted April 13, 2010 Posted April 13, 2010 Thanks c0ff for posting the link to that sound faq, I had missed that. I've added these two lines sound.cockpit_world_volume = 2.6 sound.cockpit_world_lowpass = 5000 to the top of my 'autoexec.cfg' in the Config folder, and have (for me at least) a good mix - maybe not realistic, but if it saves me forgetting to stop auto-dispensing flares, I can live with it!
