Uniform system of mouse commands for knobs and switches for ALL AI

Recommended Posts

With the exception of the Mi-8 Magnificent I have the whole DCS serie.

Everyone knows how tiresome it is to remember each plane's own knob and switch system as they differ from each other. As the DCS World Open Beta is still on construction, please use a uniform system of mouse commands for ALL knobs and switches in ALL DCS AI - for eg:

All switch-ups = right mouse

All switch-downs = left mouse

All knobs right turns = right mouse or right/up wheel turn

All knobs left turns = left mouse or left/down wheel turn

Thanks

I am just dumbfounded by the fact that this was not standardized before the A-10 was started, much less before allowing partners to add to the mix.

But this would make it too easy how would I spend all the hours I save by not having to go through every key command and address it to a button or switch for each aircraft before I even get anywhere near a flight, I am sure this has put off a lot of potential buyers it nearly did with me and some modules.

But this would make it too easy...

I'm not sure I can follow what you mean wih your "easy" logic!?

...how would I spend all the hours I save by not having to go through every key command and address it to a button or switch for each aircraft before I even get anywhere near a flight...

I'm sure this is the kind of sacrifice every Simmer looking for "perfection" is willing to make... I also have invested as well many many hours, that I'll gladly give away for that uniform system.

...I am sure this has put off a lot of potential buyers it nearly did with me and some modules.

On the contrary - what is making customers hesitate in buying more planes are these chaotic minorities in AI interfaces.

Suggested this years ago in both the public and beta tester forums, but wishlist threads are simply places for good ideas to whither and die. No interest whatsoever... In any event, +1000.

An exhumation application is strongly recommended!

I am just dumbfounded by the fact that this was not standardized before the A-10 was started, much less before allowing partners to add to the mix.

In other words, the administrative directory should have set the programing conditions of standard parameters for all partners since day One!

Obviously the leadership's guidance suffers from deficiencies in hyperopia :pilotfly:

+ infinity. Even in the UH-1 the clicks are inconsistent. Right-click one switch and the switch goes up, right-click a different switch and that switch goes down.

I also don't really understand the logic of the switchology in the A-10. Right-click for increasing increments and left-click for decreasing increments makes no sense to me. Maybe it's an East/West divide in thought process, but over here left-click is the primary function of the mouse, right-click secondary. Thus left-click should increase increments and right-click should decrease increments, logically speaking. The majority of flight sims follow this logic. DCS, exception to the P-51D, is the only sim I have seen to reverse this.

The P-51D module is the only one that does mouse operation correctly.

Left or right, there are different perspective approaches and arguments for decision making, and I'll make my brain take even a U-turn if I have to, as long the decision IS made for ONE uniform mouse system!

You'll be amazed when you find out what's behind the brain phenomenology of left and right and the kind of impact it had on the history of mankind; it's not east west related, but rather with the bias thinking of good and bad, starting with "good" Angels placed over the right shoulder and "bad" Angels over the left. Almost in all civilizations children were forbidden to write with the left hand, seen as work of the "devil". It's because the right hand is controlled by the left brain hemisphere responsible for rational thinking, while the right brain is more for subconsciousness, that's why left hand writers were claimed to be under evil spell and were banned in all monotheistic societies and 90% of the rest civilizations. There are tons of resources starting from holistic learning down to occultism related to. Yet in one thing the western thinking has been established, cornering the word right - right side / hand with the Right (juridically), also in German "Rechts" and French "Droit". All of them equals = straight, upright, righteous, upstanding. While left is for eg in German equals bad thing "linke Sache". Do you think that the Oligarchs decided to corner also political streams from socialism to fascism with leftist and rightist just by coincidence!?

Me personally I prefer pragmatically the logical solution. For eg knob turning right needs right click / right wheel turn etc...

Are there any inconsistencies besides the left mouse button moving multi-position switches up in the case of ED's Ka-50/A-10C/P-51D and down in the case of BST's UH-1H/Mi-8?

No further inconsistencies I'm aware of for now...

Multistage switches should be limited from cyclic toggle in only up or down / left or right mouse and always configured with two key commands. This goes for now for many switches, which is a great thing, but would be perfect if also complemented uniformally for the rest of them. Also the mouse wheel turning should be uniformly taken into consideration. I have a Kensigton Mouse with a right-left wheel, which makes turning knobs a real pleasure.

There is an Axis assignment for all three P-51 sytems for Pich, Yaw & Roll Trimmers in the Option/Controls/Axis Command Assign, which I adore, because it makes the cockpit "almost" perfect... Unfortunatly as it is the only AI with a Gear lever, a Gear Axis Command Assign is also needed there to make it perfect! In FSX I use the three Lever Saitek Throttle Quandrant as extension to my X52, where one Lever is assigned for the Gear. Beside the joy of having a physical Lever in touch, you never forget with it to lower the Gear, no matter how "high" you can be. :pilotfly:

Well, the "left-click hold, and move up/down" to interface with rotary knobs like in the A-10C is not working on the Huey's radio dials, and on the ground radar button where left click is currently linked only to check function, so you can't quickly click-hold and move the dial, but need to use the scroll wheel... :(

EDIT: Inconsistently it works on the lighting dials! That is ok, but then you wonder again, why doesn't this work on the VHF AM radio's frequency dials?

For the MAIN GENerator switch and other 3-way switches etc. the A-10C logic is left-click=UP and right-click=DOWN it seems on the overhead console it's different, left-click on battery activates the battery, but the switch moves DOWN, instead of UP!? Same with Generator RESET/OFF is right-click, though the switch moves UP.

EDIT: I determine UP/DOWN by the letters on the panels! So If I can read "MAIN GEN" above the switch this should be UP, no matter of the panel's orientation.

This is veeery confusing, when switching from the A-10C to the Huey.

Most fellow pilots I know solve it, by assigning physical switches on the Warthog or other controllers to them so it is just press the button or switch IRL.
