File under interesting, anal retentive modeling, less than top priority... Video: Luxembourg helicopter trims tree. Before takeoff, rotor clearly fully spun up, near complete absence of dusting and then sudden heavy dusting accompanied by audio change (collective pull?). This real life example may or may not be extreme: Again, almost complete absence of dust cloud until collective pull. Makes sense, only with collective does the heavy down wash starts. All helicopters obviously. Connect dust cloud graphics intensity to collective pull. Checked of course, landed on grass, in DCS ground dust cloud identical whatever collective setting. Update: Observed: Dust cloud graphics is gradual and proportional to (only?) rotor rpm. Fix: Make dust cloud proportional to BOTH rotor rpm AND collective setting. Ie max dust cloud at max rpm with max collective raise. But also max rpm with zero collective would result in minimal to no dust cloud as in video. Video deleted. Same video, cut for time(?) but still shows the point, no collective = no dust, collective = dust. https://today.rtl.lu/news/luxembourg/a/2306561.html

Sensing the gravity ie... Flown gliders in real life. Flying "fast" G load shifts are instantly and powerfully felt with even minute stick movements. I imagine feeling the G shifts operating the collective could be equally distinct useful input, especially while landing. Like sitting on an adjustable height chair and moving the lever. One continuously, subconsciously, feel and balance the G while approaching ground? Akin to riding a bicycle or flying planes, once trained, muscle memory replaces thinking actively about every move. On second thought this probably applies to cyclic as well (though not as much), while hovering if nothing else. A helicopter, in ways a plane doesn't, can quickly change direction in all 3 axis and the pilot "feels" the inertia.

Hi, Came up with this idea for controlling the massive Apache Collective with my VirPil Collective with a KA-50 grip, i also got an VBK MCG Ultimate where i will use the brake lever as a modifier. So without the modifier pressed, the collective buttons etc. works for the upper half of the Apache collective. With the modifier pressed the collective buttons etc. works for the lower half of the Apache collective.. What do you guys think of this solution?

Greetings Pilots, Hope you all had a great start into the new year and keep staying healthy! I have started a new build, making a Collective Damper System for my Virpil VPC Rotor TCS Plus Base. The problem I have encountered with my base before starting this mod was that the collective moved downward by itself. I had to re-adjust the force adjustment bolt after a week or two flying my heli in DCS. This became quite annoying as I had to keep my hand constantly on the collective. If I moved my hand off to switch something on or off on my SharKa control panel my heli was going wild. The solution was to stop flying and re-tighten the force adjustment bolt. Tedious doesn't quite cut it, especially while trying to achieve the same tension on that bolt as I had it set before to make it feel the same. Now, I started this project to remedy the issue and I am about 3/4 there. Besides the damper I purchased from Ali, I also will be integrating a counter weight to see if it makes any different in the feel of things. I'll make it removable in case I was to ambitious and got carried away I attached the video what I have filmed so far and would love to hear from you on any suggestions you may have. I hope I get the second video part up within the next 10 days. If there is any interest I will add some images I have a bit further along from the video above. You all have a great day! See you catching air.

Hi all, I am planning to order the Collective from VirPil in July :), and was considering pairing it up with a new joystick and base (now got the TM Warthog with F/A-18 Grip) to go with it... But can't decide on which Grip there would be best suited for helicopter operations. So can you come with any recommendations??? Thanks in advance.

Hi, I am having a few problems with the Apache (under-statement). I've returned to flying the Apache after a bit of a break. Everything worked as before in the Tutorial missions, but in game proper, I was having lots of problems with the flight controls, starting with the aircraft immediately moving backwards when the brakes were released, and no ability to move forward (although the in-game cyclic does move forward when the controller moves forward). Then I tried to increase the collective..... This is DCS 2.8.4.39259.1. All very strange. I'm certainly not going to rule out that I've done something spectacularly dumb (please give me a pointer if you think this is the case). Before going down the Bug route, it would be great to know if anyone else can reproduce this. 1) Cold and Dark 2) Increase the collective The video is 30 seconds long BTW. Thanks in advance.

Hello folks. I have no experience flying helicopters in DCS (I did fly large RC helicopters years ago! :). To date I flew the F18 using Virpil's stick and throttle, both of which I love. I did not miss pedals for fixed wing flying. Now that I'll be simming with the Apache, I can only imagine pedals would make a difference. I was wondering what all of you folks think about it. Are pedals gonna make a substantial enough difference for ease of maneuvering and are definitely worth getting? And separately, but related I guess - is a dedicated collective "kinda nice to have" or "will be awesome to have"? Thanks in advance for any feedback.

Is it possible that with 3 helicopters coming out including the long-awaited Apache, TM is not thinking of producing a collective?

THE PROBLEM: If you enter the front seat of the Apache and let George fly, if you return to the pilot seat while still having George's AI flight helper menu open, trying to manually raise/lower the collective with a throttle will cause what I assume to be George's still-present flight AI to fight your inputs and try to move the collective back into the position he last had it in. NOTE: This does not happen if using the collective keyboard controls (-, =). THE CURRENT FIX: Turning off George's Flight Helper menu before returning to the pilot seat seems to fix this issue. EXTRA NOTES: I am playing on the current open beta version, multithreaded. Attached below is a video of me attempting to manually move the collective with my Winwing Orion II throttle. This was done on the Caucuses Hot Start Apache instant action mission. This bug happens in both SP and MP. Apache Bug (Compressed).mp4
