Sonic boom animation

Recommended Posts

Has there been any discussion whether or not we will see the animation when the aircraft approaches and breaks the sound barrier? (Or to be more specific, It's condinsation in the air hitting the shockwave)

Yes, it has been discussed, repeatedly.

  • 2 weeks later...

I remember having read a book over the history of the F-16.

IIRC, on the first supersonic tests of the YF-16, the test pilot noticed that the aircraft jumped about 100ft when going supersonic and descended the same height when back subsonic.

That is a typical Pitot/Static reaction as you go through Mach 1... all those shockwaves transiting the ports. Very much more noticeable in the early generation fighters with early ADC's

As long as they figure relative humidity into the visibility of the moisture cone, I'm game. I just don't want to be seeing it at FL300, if you catch my drift.

This happens usually below and around cloud level, maybe guesstimating 50-100% above clouds too. I'm no expert, but it would be nice to have it in options.
