Flaming Cliffs isn't an arcade game.

Then you and I have different definitions of "arcade game", sir, for it darn near is so.

Because it doesn't have dozens upon dozens of clicky switches. Forget the fact that the F-15, Su-27, and MiG-29 have all of their primary weaponeering functions on the stick and throttle- if he doesn't get to touch his mouse, he doesn't feel complete.

Seriously- he could sit down in an actual F-15 simulator, and he'd call it an arcade game.

Actually, no, the list shows a working progress towards finishing what everyone is asking for in the first place... (These are complex modules and they take time to complete.) Peoples expectations and how quickly they want things completed.. Now THAT is science fiction...

If a module has a AFM, 6 DOF cockpit , Radar Systems and realistic Weapons Payload. Than how in the world you can call it ARCADE....

I just got FC3 and I'm still trying to figure out how to bind my HOTAS

Now Ace Combat game where A10 and F117 would have unlimited a2a missiles and act like fighter jet... Now that's ARCADE...And fun

Exactly. Studying and learning the various systems of the KA or the A10 or other study sim is indeed time consuming, but still less tedious than learning by heart a bazillion of keyboard shortcuts consisting of ctrl+alt+shift+cold water button+spacebar epicness. And more fun, too, but I digress.

Anyway, while I'm definitely more interested in the study sim level of DCS, I'm glad that more accessible, casual sims are available for DCS. That means more people playing DCS.

Comparing FC level planes to arcade games is a bit off I would say.

Show me any other arcade flight sim that will do following things to you when certain situations happen...

Killing you when you over G.

Tears your wings of when you over G.

Asks you to start up your engines in different way than increasing throttle.

Will not allow you to fire unless you enable your weapons and choose the proper mode.

Will shut off your engine if you fly in a bad manner.

Will require a proper fuel management.

Will not give you radar and instant targeting for any enemy near you.

I could continue on and on here...

Do, or do not, there is no try.

One time I flew an entire mission upside down in Ace Combat just for the fun of it. I don't think MSFS cares about it either, so the first time I tried flying the A-10C upside down I was in for a surprise. I have not tried all of them, but I know the Su-25T can't sustain inverted flight either.

Except for the lack of clickable pits (and maybe ground handling, it has been a while), I am generally more impressed with FC3 airplanes so far than stock FSX planes. I have only played a few hours of FC3 though.

Survey sim is the exact right word for FC3 aircraft and Study sim for A-10C, Ka-50, etc...

Sounds like a nice fantasy :)

Well the reason why I say the F-16 is because we would just have to hop in the pit with no learning.

What? the thought of any type of multirole study sim?

I believe GG is referring to the 'hop in the pit with no learning' part.

What cichlidfan said. You will always have something to learn. While things will be familiar and in many cases similar, it won't all be the same.

Exactly... about 6 years of school and training. And then you still have to be the top 3% guy if you want to fly the F-16 ... well that was at least 20 years ago. Don't know how the standards changed till then.

And that's only for the chance to get to fly that thing. Then about 2 years of another training.
