xendoshi Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 Hello to all as this is my first post here!:D Found DCS World today cause of years of MSFS and flying planes I am well, burnt out on planes, (unless it's perhaps a VTOL type like the Osprey) So I am ready for a new challenge, that is flying heilos! from what I've found using Google is that this software gives the most realism. when it comes to helicopters, the rest just kinda fall way short. before I go on I want to acknowledge that the Mi-8 is still being developed. Now from a good simulation view, what is the most realistic simulation? I am kind of drawn to the Huey always loved the Whop Whop sound the blades make, And the fact they served as the medic and troop drop off and pick up. So I know some of the history of the Huey as for the other two (black shark or the Mi-8) I have no idea the history of them. been watching youtube videos and it looks like the Mi-8 has the most complex I have seen when it comes to start up, although haven't looked at the black shark yet. So to keep long post from getting longer, What would you suggest and why? Thanks! Xendoshi
chardly38 Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 Now from a good simulation view, what is the most realistic simulation? They all are. You wont regret having any of them. I enjoy the Shark but the A10 will always be my favorite. kontiuka Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 If you already like the Huey, you won't be disappointed. It's fun to just scoot around in but it also carries some fun weapons too.
Devrim Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 You should try/fly all helicopters (Ka-50, UH-1H & Mi-8MTV2) To me, more complex is Ka-50 with weapon, navigation (including ABRIS) and Shkval systems, but easy control with coaxial rotor system. Huey is a must! Until Huey, I thought I had no any issue about flying a helicopter (talking about Ka-50). Huey is with single rotor and a tail rotor a challenge for rookies. Mi-8 is fun for me, but couldn't get used to it yet. To me it's not more complex than Huey or Ka-50. MariuszDW Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 Both are great. I'd say Mi-8 offers more, but I think you should start with huey. It's more polished and easier to learn.
Lizzard Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 (edited) hehe..the Mi-8 scares the shit out of me..because of the millions of buttons and switches...but it is fun anyway..a bit like flying a truck with guns and rockets..the KA-50 ist a rather easy to fly killing machine (just the trimming is a blast in the beginning), but it has the most "complicated" avionics out of the 3....and the Huey ist imho by far the most fun to learn/fly Edited April 3, 2014 by Lizzard My Specs: I don`t care..it is a Computer..a black one..
xendoshi Posted April 3, 2014 Author Posted April 3, 2014 I'll probably go for the Huey, This will tell my age but, I used to love Super Huey and Super Huey 2. . . . :D
cichlidfan Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 As others have said, the Huey is a lot of fun to fly. It doesn't have a complex cockpit, but if you really like to fly then it is probably the best whirly-bird choice (for your first one, that is). Rogue Trooper Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 All are good. This Sim is soo accurate that the differences between helicopters is an absolute pleasure. MI-8 is probably my favorite utility helicopter as it is just so useful, powerful and with it's 1950s buck rogers style cockpit.. it's just great. Huey will teach you helicopter flight 101 and no other does it as good (I recommend it as your first buy). The KA-50 is probably the greatest attack helicopter on earth. It's just too much, so much so that the Russians had to give it up. Switch off the APs and tell me it ain't more twitchy, controllable and maneuverable than the Huey. HP G2 Reverb (Needs upgrading), Windows 10 VR settings: IPD is 64.5mm, High image quality, G2 reset to 60Hz refresh rate. set to OpenXR, but Open XR tool kit disabled. Call911 Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 For me the KA50 is almost on equal terms with the A10C in complexity an the old sane:you get out of it, what your put into it" The Huey is fun I kinda picked up the Huey an KA flying about the same time an for me the two fed off each other in terms of ..put simply how should a noob attempt to fly helicopter(aka me) heh. There all enjoyable, even the MI8(I call it the flying bathtub) :D it's fun but I always mange to drop like a rock outta the sky when attempting landing it. if ya get some of the fixed wing enthusiasim back you won't go wrong with the A10C. IMO any an all DCS lvl a/c an even Flaming Cliffs are worth there weight in gold well worth the $ i spent aquiring all modules.
Rogue Trooper Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 THE best single seat attack heli in the world... ..... indeed... it possibly is :D. msalama Posted April 4, 2014 Posted April 4, 2014 Hi and welcome to the forum! As others have stated they're all very realistic, but for sheer fun factor my personal choice de jour is the Huey. It really is the greatest bird ever  The DCS Mi-8MTV2. The best aviational BBW experience you could ever dream of.
leafer Posted April 4, 2014 Posted April 4, 2014 Since you've shown your age; allow me to be frank because leafer is out of town. Get the Ka-50. Once you've mastered its flight characteristics, you'd want a stable platform to blow shit up. Sure, the Huey and the Mi-8 can also blow shit up but the Ka-50 gives you radar guided shit to blow shit up with. That is why Kamov gives you that altitude hold button, so you can giggle and gasp when shit gets blown to smithereens in your little monochrome monitor. Now about it being stable, once you've achieved stable in DCS, all it means is you have already crashed many, many times. There's no shame in that. I still cannot do an ass-up landing on the P-51D, and I've had it since released. Nothing that carries the DCS label will give you instant gratification. You just can't get in any of the DCS aircraft and expect to geek out with loops and rings while popping pimples like you could with x-plane and msfs. Pretty much what I said. :D 1 ED have been taking my money since 1995. :P

Reksi-Erkki Posted April 4, 2014 Posted April 4, 2014 I'm pretty much stuck on the Huey - she's just so much fun to fly, no complex avionics to play with... and, being a geek, I'm supposed to love complex avionics to play with! Also, the campaign is excellent. Haven't completed the Mi-8 or Ka-50 campaigns yet; there's this mountain in mission 2 of the Mi-2 campaign that hates me. A lot. And the feeling is mutual. Too bad I now have to learn to actually hover, with the sling loads implemented in the new beta... I'm gonna have so much fun with my Huey this weekend :smilewink: Dear Shilka. I hate you so very very much. Love, Rex
xendoshi Posted April 4, 2014 Author Posted April 4, 2014 Well I went with the Mi-8mtv2 & Huey. Been playing with the huey, pretty much got it to hover, just need to learn to add the right amount of counter torqe when I lift off and such, belive it or not I have more hard time flying the huey then hovering. I tend to rock side to side enough to make me air sick. . . and it's a simulation. But having a blast havent tried the Mi-8 yet. I also got my trackir 5 today so new toys to play with :D

I also got my trackir 5 today so new toys to play with :D IMHO Track IR is an absolute MUST especially when trying to hover a chopper.. I tried for the longest time to land the Black Shark onto the Russian carrier by sideslipping from a hover.. (As that is how naval pilots do it IRL) Fought with it forever until I got a Track IR and that made all the difference.. Hooked up Track IR and was landing nicely within the first session using it "Pride is a poor substitute for intelligence." RAMBO
Revan Posted April 4, 2014 Posted April 4, 2014 Well, i have the Huey and the Blackshark, and i LOVE them both, however, for beginners i would highly recommend the Blackshark. It is not that hard to startup and get flying, and it has some really nice weapon sysytems too. DCS: F-4E really needs to be a thing!!!!!!
