I've seen both reflector and emitter based clips worn on the head. Are they for different versions of the TrackIR or is it capable of both emitting and receiving IR? If it's capable of emitting, where are the emitters?

I don't actually have TrackIR right now, but I'm thinking about it.

TIR camera is not designed to be the IR source, although it does become quite hot after a while:D

The reflective clip reflects IR radiation from external sources, such as your monitor.

That's my understanding at least.

Edit: So I was wrong... See below...

The TrackIR camera which sits on your monitor is both a receiver and an emitter.

It emits when you use the reflector thingy.

The TrackClip Pro on the other hand has built in emitters and by checking the TrackClip Pro tick box in TIR software, it disables the emission from the TIR receiver (so I believe).

In my opinion, the TrackClip Pro is superior in accuracy and sits on the headset I would be using anyway so I don't have to use a silly and uncomfortable hat.

TrackIR Transmits when using the hat clip.

Just look at Youtube videos...

People using a Hatclip will have 4 LARGE LED Lights turn ON on the Camera unit (To the human Eye they are small, but to a Digital Camera, they are huge.)

Windows 10 Pro, Ryzen 2700X @ 4.6Ghz, 32GB DDR4-3200 GSkill (F4-3200C16D-16GTZR x2),

ASRock X470 Taichi Ultimate, XFX RX6800XT Merc 310 (RX-68XTALFD9)

I've seen this video before... I thought the bright spots on the camera were the ones that are lit up whenever tracking clips and a supported game running are detected.

Fat T is above, thin T is below. Long T is faster, Short T is slower. Open triangle is AWACS, closed triangle is your own sensors. Double dash is friendly, Single dash is enemy. Circle is friendly. Strobe is jammer. Strobe to dash is under 35 km. HDD is 7 times range key. Radar to 160 km, IRST to 10 km. Stay low, but never slow.

The TrackIR software has an option on the upper left side were you are slecting the pro clip or reflective clip. By selecting them it lights on/off the 4 infrared leds which resides on TrackIR camera. They are visibile directly to our eyes. There are other green/blue led(depends on TrackIR version) which are lighting up stating if the game activates headtracking support or not.

I am using the hat reflective clip which I have adjusted to stay on my headset (which headset I am always using it due to my home necessity).

I never had any issue with this device regarding functionality, precision, or anything else. So I do prefer the reflective clips due to its simplity and free maintanance usage.

I wear glasses, with metal frames, so for me the Pro Clip was a must since the camera was getting more reflections than it could handle from my glasses.

I have glasses but they don't pose a problem. Your's must be really shiny :D I do get some noise in the background if the sun is in a certain spot during the afternoon so I have to darken the room.

Yes my trackir when I was wearing the trackcap was getting difficulties from my glasses. When I had my curtains open and during certain time's (sun angle you know) I could see my glasses in the reception of the trackir.

Since switching to the trackclip pro: no problems.

I have issues with sunlight/LED Lamp reflecting off surfaces into the Camera Unit too.

I confirmed it by looking the camera window when I was having problems, and noticed static/mp track points other than the hat clip.
