Canadian CF-18A

Any chance the model used by Canada for their F-18 can be switch back to the F/A-18A. They "C"variant doesn't carry the canuck skins and being a proud Canadian would much rather our planes be painted correctly. I realize its a easy fix with the countries database, but am not entirely sure how that alteration will effect the multiplayer.

Surely they can just move the A skins over to the C version? Shouldn't require much tweaking to do so. We've upgraded our Hornets to the C version standard, so I think it would make more sense that way.

Shouldn't we be replacing the Canadian Hornets with F-35s in game? :)

I wish...

Right now the CF-188 as we call them up here are upgrade, or being upgraded to be comparable to the F/A-18Cs.

So I think its reasonable to stick with the C's in sim... especially when the DCS module is released. I want to fly RCAF colours when that's out :)

Canadian Fighter - 18 / CF-18 is the Export Name,

CF-188 is the Canadian Designation

Spain has them designated as C.15 and CE.15

CF-188 is just the designation they chose, their Hawks are Labelled as CT-155, P-3 Labeled as CP-140

I think the RCAF uses 3-Digits,

So Planes Purchased will be made 3 digits.

ie: CF-188, CC-C177 (C-17).

3 Digit Airframes retain their original number CC-130 (C-130)

Windows 10 Pro, Ryzen 2700X @ 4.6Ghz, 32GB DDR4-3200 GSkill (F4-3200C16D-16GTZR x2),

So how hard would it be for one of out resident modders to add a new aircraft entry into the database with the flight model chacteristic of the F/A-18C but named CF-18A and utilizing the F/A-18A model and Canadian skins.

It would make you game incompatible with MP I believe. It would need to be done on the ED level.

I think Skate is on to something here. The F-18E/F would be more bang for the buck as it were. Also Canada has always used multi engine aircraft for survivability. Don't know why they would change now

Double the engines does not provide double the survivability. "A two engine plane with one engine out is useless in combat, and the probability of an engine failure was nominally twice as high with two engines as with one" isn't an entirely true statement but it's not entirely wrong either. 18 of the 138 CF-18's owned by Canada have been lost in accidents, some due to engine failures. 5 of the 235 Gripens have been lost in accidents, none due to engine failures. Both countries have fairly similar climates. It's not the cold war, and computer aided design, new construction techniques, and thousands of hours of testing ensure new turbofans are extremely reliable.

The Super Hornet isn't as capable as the F-35 or Eurocanards since it's built on a 40 year old airframe, and is going to be needing replacing sooner. The Gripen E is going to be the best bang for our buck, especially taking cost-per-flight-hour into account.

True enough but at least with a pair of engines, your ability to limp the bird back to a friendly airfield is considerably better. I believe that was the reasoning behind Canada's choosing the F-18A over the falcon when the original replacements were needed for the starfighters and voodoos .

Now as for joeys comments about the liveries, they already exist in game. They just need to be renamed for the "C" variant. But would still prefer to have our proper aircraft designation available, but that's just my preference.

I can submit a feature request, but it might be more of a pain than they want to deal with right now. It would be like having a different aircraft I think as right now its all the same aircraft shared with different countries.

2 Engines offer the ability to still fly the plane in case of a engine failure or bird strike.

Single Engine Aircraft, once you lose your engine it's over.
