So, I'm running dual GTX 460's and its time to upgrade.

What are your thoughts on the 780Ti and its likely ability to perform well with all the new upgrades coming to DCS?

I would probably go with the Asus version.

I have had one for a month and it is very good for DCS. FPS is never a problem.Best thing I got with my new system is water cooling.

I am running an ASUS GTX 780 (no ti) right now, and I am happy with it but the ti version tests noticeably faster. Considering that v2.0 is supposed to bring performance improvements, I would say that a 780ti will be quite nice. I just wish they (preferably ASUS or Zotac) would make a 4GB version.

I built a rig for a close friend of mine a few weeks ago with an i7 Devil's Canyon ( 4GHz ) and a Palit Superjetstream Edition 780-GTX ( no Ti ).

AWESOME.... the monitor only had 1366xsomething and we forgot to turn off Prime95 that ran in the background ( LOL )...it still gave more fps than I have ever seen before...

If that cards drops in price it will definitely be a winner for DCS ( maybe SLI is affordable too ).

* that Palit GTX SuperJetSTream is also very quiet, for those guys demanding quiet computing.

I have had bad luck with Asus video cards in the RMA process (a true nightmare) so changed over to EVGA for my video cards. Sticking with Asus for motherboards though.

An FYI EVGA is coming out with a 6 Gig GTX780 for the same price I paid for my 3 gig. Again it is a matter of patience since they have been coming out with it for a long time.

The official Wikipedia page. Both 800 and 900 articles were edited 12~14 hours ago. It was guestimated that next gen nvidia product will be closer to wintertime. So "skipping a number and out to n two weeks " seems very shady to me.

Try googleing 'GTX980'. While rumors, seems very likely.

Personally I would wait, they will be out soon so either pick up a 900 series or pick up a cheaper 780.

Oh and I think it is a great card, although kind of sad they came out with a 6GB later. Would have got that instead because of my resolution.

Well, thats some great info. I think I'll hold off for a couple weeks and see what the prices do.

I'm running a Alienware Aurora R3 and yeah, I'll never buy one again so this is the start of the new system. I figure vid card first, then maybe some ram. I'll buy the mb, chip, and power supply later.

Yeah, the rumors have been flying the past week. At this point it is safe to say that they are not far from the truth. At least that's how it's worked for a while in this industry.

I will have to wait for some reviews, since I am not overly fond of EVGA, but 6GB at that price might be worth getting. It'll make the price of the 4k display hurt a little less. :)

Ok I spoke too soon.

Seems you can get the 6 Gig now. They released a few early on and they all sold out fast. But they are back now. :D

Just checked Newegg and they have them back in now. Yippy!!

You can read user reviews there too.

Just another FYI - Does not look like there will be a 780ti with 6 gigs from EVGA anytime soon.

Get'm while they gotm.......hehe anyone want to buy my 3 gig 780 classified.

Do you think there will be that much a difference between the 3Gig 780Ti and the 6Gig 780? I mean, the program only needs so much to run and unless the resolution you are playing at is huge, I don't see why it would be a plus. I may be uneducated on the topic, not sure.

There are some here who have reported the sim using in excess of 3GB VRAM under some circumstances. I don't notice issues with mine though I haven't checked real numbers in a long time.

In general, though, anyone with three, or more, displays along with anyone considering a 4k display would probably notice a difference between 3 and 6GB. If you are just running a single standard 1080p monitor then it may be less of an issue.

Personally, I would be happy with 4GB but nobody has built a 780, ti or otherwise, with more than 3GB until now.

Thanks cichlidfan.

I did some reading on it and everything came down to what you have stated. Single monitor is a 780Ti friendly zone but multi monitor is better with the 6Gig. I also read that with overclocking you can get the 780 6Gig to almost the same performance as the Ti.

Ordered the 6Gig from Newegg 2 minutes ago. Can't wait!!!!

AWESOME Dig It - you are really going to "dig it" (sorry - could not resist. :).

6 Gig - It is known as future proofing!!

EVGA also has a great "step up" program. And has offered great support to me at least.

I think if you are planning to stay at 1080p then 3-4GB will be fine. But at 1440p(my current resolution) most 64-bit games will be really close to or reach the 3GB cap of my card. That being said, I can see games using more VRAM in the near-ish future since the new consoles(which seem to drive what quite a few developers do)have more ram to play with. That and over the next few years you will see nicer 4k monitors become much more affordable.

I agree 100% with aeliusg, I just bought a 780 6gb a month ago. It's fantastic!

I didn't really want to wait for the 800 or 900's, cause they'll be astronomically expensive. And if i remember correctly, when the 700's came out, the 600's DID NOT drop in price quickly like some believed they would. Hence, i figured the 700's will still be their same price (or close to it) with the newly released cards on the shelves.

Anyway, i think 2 780 6gb's will be better future proofing than 2 780ti's (because of their limitation with only 3 gb vram)
