Undercarriage not retracting after training mission.

I completed the start-up training mission, after which I went for a quick circuit.

 

I did the take-off as per SOPs but when I attempted to raise the gear, the main wheels remained extended, whilst the front wheel and the leading edges retracted.

 

I tried it several times with the same result.

 

I then made a free flight mission in the editor and tried it again and all worked okay.

Of course, this was the first thing that came to mind - but why the nosewheel retracts and not the mainwheels? Surely if VLE is exceeded, all undercart remains extended?

Same thing happened to me the other day. The air resistance caused by my airspeed kept the main gear from retracting, while the nose wheel retracted. What was interesting is that I immediately reduced my airspeed and the main gear then retracted as well.

I just checked the screenshot I took as soon as I'd realised and it showed 327KIAS, so it will have been lower than that. This is too fast already, with a V2 of 250?

 

Wow - that's tight, with an aircraft that accelerates like this one!

Ummm...if you indeed mean 327 KIAS (knots indicated airspeed), that would be 605.6 Km/hr and, yes, that's too fast. :) Assuming you meant km/hr, something else is going on. I know I've retracted the gear above that. And at 327 km/hr, you wouldn't be able to pull enough Gs for that to have an effect either...I don't think.

I'm going from what is on the info bar - so if that is km/h then that's what the speed was. I was assuming it was in knots. :huh:

 

I would post the pic, but it's 3 screens wide and on one screen you can't read it. If I resize it to meet uploading or posting restraints, it would be illegible, too.

 

I'll have another try at the same tute and take off after it tomorrow and either get the track or record it myself. Pretty sure I couldn't save a track, as it's a tutorial mission, but we'll see.

Struggling to find volunteers gullible enough to be strapped to the 27 and deal with what devious surprises I can cook up :D

 

On a more serious note, might be that wind/environmental factors have an impact but I cannot see that being more than a couple of km's either way.

Hi fellow Flanker's pilots,

 

I've been putting my hands on this bird for about one week now and I've also been experiencing main gear retractation issues after take off, several times.

I 've always been using 250km/h for rolling my nose wheel up.

Since then, I try to quickly retract my main gear up before reaching an IAS of 300 km/h or above.

I honestly think that the trick is to make your gear up as soon as you are few meters above the ground and not care about what the virtual instructor tells you, especially in this lesson about start-up.

Applying this rule fixed this particular problem in my case.

This is my poor and honest opinion.

If you take off in MIL you'll have more time to establish positive climb and retract gear.

after that go full burn and do the climb.

I tend to control speed after takeoff by just increasing pitch, at least when I'm being lazy and don't throttle back.

 

I try to get the gear up before my IAS passes 400 km/h (I'm in the habit of getting it up before 350 on the Su-25), and so far I haven't had any problems.

Callsign "Auger". It could mean to predict the future or a tool for boring large holes.

 

I combine the two by predictably boring large holes in the ground with my plane.

Okay, sorted.

 

It was probably the speed, and I must have slowed before taking the shot that shows 327. However, the gear refused to retract regardless, so it must have been damaged.

 

Having just flown the mission again, I see why I was going too fast. Although most of us know what to do, we may run through the tutes just for a look (as I did) - but when I do so, I wait for the 'instructor' to tell me to do something before I do it.

 

When lining up on the runway, he says to go to full throttle and take off at 250. By the time he says to raise the 'gear', we're already going through 450!

 

So there lies the problem. I raised the gear the instant my wheels left the ground and all went well, but someone who has little idea probably won't until they are told to - by which time it's too late.

 

Probably not something that will be corrected, but there ya go :)

 

I see someone else has posted the same here - so it didn't take long...

I dont know about the exact speed limits but i stop afterburning as soon as i takeoff. When the gear is up i proceed with Afterburner if necessary.

FWIW, I've never seen the need to use afterburner for takeoff in the first place and the vast majority of my takeoffs are without. It may not be as sexy but mil power works just fine. Plus I figure every kg of full I have to load, the more agile I can be. For that matter, I seldom load more than 60% fuel unless there is a real need for it.

 

But the end result is that, using full mil power, you get to take off and not be in a desperate race to get your gear up.

If I'm right, the units on the bar should depend on what you have set in the options. You can choose to have it display imperial or metric units.
