To summarise, in case of emergency;

10 Install DCS World

20 Install Oculus Rift Runtime for Windows

30 Enable Rift as secondary:extended monitor in GFX settings of PC

40 Install Oculus Runtime Utility (by Bilago)

50 Run utility and stop the service

60 Run DCS World

70 Enable "Auto Detect Oculus Rift" in DCS options

80 Enjoy

90 GOTO 80

To break loop, simply "80 Enjoy" until your partner threatens to leave you unless you remove the head mounted display.

Greetings aeronauts.

I have recently received my DK2 and had a few issues getting it to work in DCS. Hopefully, this short guide saves someone else some bother.

Before plugging in the DK2 to the PC, install the Oculus Runtime for Windows from the Oculus Rift-Share webpage. Almost every other app for OR will use this driver/service, so you need it.

https://developer.oculus.com/downloads/

You don't need the optional SDK installed for DCS World to work with OR.

Plug in Oculus Rift DK2 and camera.

In your computer's graphics settings (Nvidia here) activate the rift as secondary monitor and use the extended desktop setting. 1920x1080 @ 75Hz on mine.

Rotate the Rift screen to portrait mode if not already rotated and apply settings.

Install Bilago's Oculus service utility.

https://forums.oculus.com/viewtopic.php?f=26&t=11395

Run the service utility and "Stop Service". DCS World will not display on Rift in extended mode with this service running.

Ensure blue light is lit on top of Rift and camera before finally firing up DCS.

The loading screen and finally the menu should appear on your secondary monitor.

Go to the options tab and enable "auto detect oculus rift".

Now, with the service stopped by Bilago's utility and auto detect rift enabled you should be able to start a DCS session that appears on the Rift.

If i remember/discover anything else i'll edit this post. If anyone can add useful info to this please post your suggestions/alternatives and i'll add them here.

Good hunting.

10 Install DCS World

20 Install Oculus Rift Runtime for Windows

30 Enable Rift as secondary:extended monitor in GFX settings of PC

enable auto detect rift and leave it checked.

do not have full screen enabled.

menu of dcs world will appear on primary monitor.

run game.

enable dk2 as primary to get mouse control.

Currently now i have enabled all gfx global setting to max and DK2 looks more an more like the 3d models when using 3d glasses... still not good enough on text yet... ce la vie.

unless doing all that extra stuff helps with the picture quality? "40 Install Oculus Runtime Utility (by Bilago)

honest question: is it worth cashing out for a DK2 right now, given it's current display resolution, or should those of us who do not have one just yet... would you recommend we hold out for retail release?

Honest answer. No. i bought the DK2 and although its great for the 1st couple of days using it but after that i never really bothered with it as the resolution is too low. Its ok for racing games and stuff but for DCS.. No dont bother... Wait until the consumer version comes out and save some money. I wish i did. lol

The thing with DK2 though is if you have problems reading gauges or callout, just duck in towards what you're trying to read to get closer to it. Unlike DK1, DK2 has positional tracking that allows you to look around.

If $300 won't kill you, I think it's worth the immersion factor. But if your video card is not up to par, the money may be better spent there.

Basically, you're curiosity factor has to be higher than your desire to save the $300! :)

I would say, no, it is not worth it right now. The resolution is just too low, the AA doesn't work properly and you'll have hard time finding contacts (Ground or Air) around you. You won't be able to read the dials / hud unless you lean forward. And forget reading any text within the game

Also, be aware that it might cause you motion sickness, from light to heavy. In my case I don't usually have problems with it, but it happens once in a while.

Last time was in a rolling scissors with some Mig15.... I just started suffering strong nausea ...

That being said, its potential is huge. And you ACTUALLY feel that you are in the plane.

My advice is just wait until the consumer version is out, and use the money upgrading your system or save it for the release of the device.

I try and try, and only on rare occasions (and I don't know which...) I get the image to display ok in the ORDK2.

I followed several tutorials including this one, but it doesn't help.

Further more: although it's a DK2, I can't get positional tracking working. I can look up/down/left/right, but if I move forwards/backwards/sidewards, nothing happens...

WHO... o please WHO... can give me THE solution...????

**edit**

I found the cable wasn't plugged in completely... so I secured it, rebooted and... it worked...!! However, NO cam light is showing up..?? Furthermore, the movement doesn't correspond to the movement of my head; if I move backwards, the cam in the cockpit moves left... and so on... Nausious now...

not getting DCS on Rift

I dont get DCS in a stereoscopic window as required by Oculus Rift :(.

My rift works great in Elite: Dangerous.

*Settings*

- My DCS settings--> Fullscreen=no, Resolution=1920x1080, monitors=1, auto detect rift=yes

- Rift settings --> Extended desktop=yes, orientation=portrait

20 Install Oculus Rift Runtime for Windows

30 Enable Rift as secondary:extended monitor in GFX settings of PC

40 Install Oculus Runtime Utility (by Bilago)

50 Run utility and stop the service

60 Run DCS World

70 Enable "Auto Detect Oculus Rift" in DCS options

80 Enjoy

90 GOTO 80

To break loop, simply "80 Enjoy" until your partner threatens to leave you unless you remove the head mounted display.

FIRST TRY What i've done;

1. Followed above steps, such as disable the Rift service using bilago's utility.

2. Start a dcs mission.

3. DCS launches, but displayes a single window 1920x1080. :joystick:

Where did i go wrong?

SECOND try:

1. Used the configs as above

2. Run DCS with Oculus service running.

3. Load DCS & run mission

4. DCS mission starts with DCS in the taskmanager, and unable to see a window or move it etc.

Any ideas?

Do we still have to disable the rift service with the current version of Dcs world? I don't and it works but performance, man I'm surprised how much of a hit it takes since I can max everything out with my nvidia 3dvision setup....

Set oculus as primary display

Turn rift off

Start dcs world

Hit fly to start a mission

Immediately turn on rift and sim should come on in the rift.

Also try having full screen on

This works for me 2, after a lot of trial and error. Still... I didn't adjust any settings; everything is maxed out and still I get an acceptable fps. LOVE IT!!

No kidding, your maxed out? I have two 980 and had to turn scenes to low and visibility distance to medium. Hmm maybe I'll just give her a try with pretty settings. What you running yours with gpu wise ? Must be something I'm missing lol new tech is exciting and half the fun is figuring it out to function correctly.

I can more than max everything with nvidia 3dvision and maintain 60 fpS

no joy 4 me.

some questions;

1. Do you play DCS in fullscreen or windowed?

2. Do u use that bilbao-tool to stop the Oculus Service?

3. When DCS has started in Windowed mode, and you´re in the cockpit, do u get a splitscreen window?

4. If u stop the Oculus Rift service, dcs is in windowed mode, what does DCS display? And where, on which display?

5. When playing dcs in fullscreen mode, do u also use the Rift as primary display?

Ideal situation;

* Run DCS in a window, and this window is split in 2 parts, so i can move it using Windows+arrowkeys to the Rift.

When i disabled the Oculus Rft service, the reuslt is NO splitscreen window. IE, i canmove it to the Ridft display but has not use.

I just tried EuroTruck Simulator 2. Only needed to select Oculus-beta version, clicked strart and voila! there was ES2 on my Rift. Why cant it be that easy with DCS?

I run it as primary display and full screen since I use sli.

No I don't use that tool nor disable the oculus service.

I don't turn rift on until mission is loading

I give up.. DCS wont open on the rift, even if its primary display.

After having tried 10x combinations, no luck.

My only hope is to get a stereoscopic window. Does DCS create such a steroscopic window?

btw, i use an ATI-gfx card.

1. Full screen.

2. I tried, but didn't get any results. So no, I don't stop any service.

3. After DCS started, I choose a mission and press FLY. After pressy FLY I switch the oculus on (extended mode, rift = prim display)

4. I don't stop the service.

5. Yes.

Ok I have a question...

But I also will list what I am doing and how so it may help someone else with similar issues...

I start computer...I disable all apps I dont need running such as printer whatever...

Then I run Config tool for Rift make sure I am set to extended mode...

Then I close then I exit the program in taskbar as well...(if not DCS Crashes)

Next I open the DCS program, it loads up...

(I have been able to play and fly for well over an hour and a half...)

However, I would like the people that can see my laptop to be able to see what I am seeing in a single view on screen...

I also am having one heck of a time just starting the game.

It opens I have selected as follows, (tried both ways Full Screen and not)

The helicopter is floating in the air stationary, I have the pre flight briefing window I can see.

When I run without Rift I can use the mouse to select start, it tells me to select start by pressing Pause / break Key, I could beat it off the computer and nothing happens, In fact I have cycled through so many buttons I think hitting the ESC key is the only thing coming close, if I get something right all of a sudden the chopper starts flying and I am away...

So here are the questions...

1) How can I set up the main screen on computer to display whats going on in Rift as single image? if not possible in double bubble mode...???

2) How can I start it from the Briefing window?

I did program a button on 3D controller to act as Pause start but it doesn't work, everything else I programed does.

I was mostly running it in Full Screen I am attempting to find a way in windowed mode to use mouse or find the correct Key or Keys to start flight...

OK any help is greatly appreciated...Links are welcomed...

Mark
