I was inspired by the fact that very poor truck simulator on Steam has over 24,000 positive reviews. And I thought - "Wouldn't it great to a have a very realistic heavy hauler simulator in DCS"

In this other truck simulator, you drive across Europe, but the distances are all fake etc. In a proper simulator engine this would not have to be so. You could be hauling troops, or machinery to from one real town to another real town, watch them unload. Refuel etc.

How wouldn't want to learn the start up sequence to a beast of a truck with 6x6 drive :)

There is definitely a market for it.

Edit I'm also aware there is another truck game where you drive Russian heavy trucks, its all external view only, and its more focused on getting stuck in mud, so it's not at all a simulator.

Imagine your truck is hauling supplies in MP to your Co-coalitions airbases - supplies like missiles/fuel that other people rely on..... I'm pretty sure this could already be done with the current mission creation tools and CA.

The Opposing Side would seek to strike at these supply convoys in order to strangle the opposition. So the Convoy could have Human A-A also..... I'd say there are plenty of possibilities.

To be honest, I don't really see the point. There's not much currently in DCS that could be a foundation of a better truck sim than ETS2 or Spin Tires (which I think are both good games, especially ETS). There's an inadequate - for the purpose of a driving game - map, there are some truck models and there's a very rudimentary driving simulation. Pretty much everything would have to be built from the ground.

Furthermore, there would be very little interaction between the truck drivers and players of current modules. A truck can drop off stuff for transport helos to pick up or be a target. That's pretty much it. None of those things, IMHO, are very exciting to either party. Will shooting Urals with your A-10 get much better if there are players behind the wheels? Will getting blown up without warning 5 hours into a 10 hour delivery run be fun? I don't think so.

IMHO, the one class of ground units that, simulated on a study level, would benefit DCS to a significant degree are air defense units. There's a lot of relevant content and mechanics already in the game and there's plenty of interaction of those units with what's currently simulated. Besides that, any improvement to the way air defense works would benefit even those DCS players who would never buy (or MP with people owning) air defense modules.

pass, euro truck simulator is tons of fun , this would suck.

Why would someone make something that would suck? It'd be like Eurotruck, except more realistic.

Imagine the trucks cabin being as detailed as the cockpits we are used to in DCS? That would be amazing. No such thing exists that I'm aware of anyway. Adjusting the mirrors and seating position, checking the gauges, warming up etc There are a lot of buttons to press in those trucks too. Its not like a normal car.

And the 6x6 driving physics could be really nice too - if it could leverage the DCS amount of detail.

They won't , thats why nobody has tried to make a DCS truck sim. Please explain to me how this would be more realistic then ETS 2? Have you SEEN the ground textures and building placement in DCS?

Its not about the cockpit its about the world. DCS looks like shit on the ground , and even with EDGE it still wouldn't be good at all compared to ETS. A fancy cockpit alone doesnt make it a good truck sim. And ETS's cockpits look fine. The(edit : there are other simplified things i suppose) only thing thats unrealistic in ETS is the distances , but who wants to drive for 24 hours or however long a delivery would take in real life , anyway?

I can't really tell if you're joking or not... get real please.

Next up you're gonna ask for a metro simulator within DCS , DCS isnt some universal engine in wich all future simulators should run.

[sarcasm]Yeah, because driving down a Georgian road with 10 polygons for each mountain in 6 hours is really nice. Not to mention the amazing 10 minutes to sit and warm-up the engine, almost gives me a heart attack every time I do it, it's that exciting.[/sarcasm] Do you really think it would sell as much as it cost to make it? Even if it only needs a 5,000 dollar budget or even less than that, I wouldn't expect it to even sell that much. Sorry for how rude I'm being about this, but this is more than just a no-go.

ORLY :smoke:

Game began as Flanker. Did the developers stop and say we do not wish to simulate anything other than a Flanker.

No, thankfully the developers had more vision and the opportunity to pursue it.

ED has created a World client that can host many different third-party modules. It would be short sighted to think that opportunities for module developers won't increase and all sorts of modules may one day become possible.

Perhaps DCS: Kamaz would be better off bundled into DCS: Logistics where the module is all about keeping airfields, air defence and airwings operational. Managing logistics would expand the possibilities of modelling air campaigns.

Why have warehouses in the game now?

Some people want a game and some people want more simulation.

Just make it part of DCS:Combined Arms and it will sell.

Really it would be better that way. Add logistics and some cargo management's and that's it.

If they tried to make a credible driving simulator our of DCS it would at least create a bounty of improvements to the ground units no doubt.

For all the attack aircraft in DCS, their primary targets are incredibly underdeveloped in comparison.

Warning: Nothing I say is automatically correct, even if I think it is.
