Too bad the interview wasn't a video interview - in it we would of seen Cobra alternately stroking two large cats (phoenix and tarps) sitting upon his lap - Dr Evil style.

I'm surprised the interviewer didn't bring it up!

I thought they were going to make a Mig 23 and not a F-14. Both really cool concepts.

They could be. They are working on 3 projects. Pretty sure one of them is the Tomcat, however the other two could be anything basically.

The other two are probably ww2 prop fighters.

The LN facebook cover has a F4U Corsair cockpit hidden in the dark on the left side. (a late war Corsair would add to the Korean War planeset too)

The Rising Sun suggests a japanese fighter. Most likely a mid-late war Zero?

Didn't and couldn't, because of different radar, it's been discussed here many times already. Not the first and not the last error in Gordon's book (excellent read nevertheless).

Given the fact that Kh-66 in DCS MiG module has become a bit controversial subject lately, I'd say LN will probably think twice before adding some "fantasy" layout for Tomcat.

KH-66 is great and adds to gameplay value.

If people don't like, they should just not use it.

Looking forward to the next module. I think AT-802 with all its variants will be their next project. Still, a PFM F-14 Tomcat will attract 'Mavericks'...

AWAITING ED NEW DAMAGE MODEL IMPLEMENTATION FOR WW2 BIRDS

Fat T is above, thin T is below. Long T is faster, Short T is slower. Open triangle is AWACS, closed triangle is your own sensors. Double dash is friendly, Single dash is enemy. Circle is friendly. Strobe is jammer. Strobe to dash is under 35 km. HDD is 7 times range key. Radar to 160 km, IRST to 10 km. Stay low, but never slow.

why would they make a crop duster?

1) It's the third most requested plane on DCS forums.

2) Works well with Hawk and C-101.

3) Is operated worldwide. (it will fit great into the new Strait of Hormuz map since it's operated by UAE)

The real question is, why would they NOT make an AT-802? :P

Because it's another subsonic crop duster with marginal armament and no air to air capability?

Where is the info regarding it being the 3rd most requested plane on DCS Forums?

Has this come from one of the forum Polls?

The AT-802U can carry the same amount of ordnance as the Su-25, carries AGM-114 Hellfires and has the A-10's lovely TGP camera (or one similar to it) mounted internally. That's nothing to snicker at. The other two versions of the AT-802 would be pointless but the 802U would be highly effective.

Well, gentlemen,

to those of you who still do not believe in F-14, I can tell you I have recently read Red Eagles and one sentence in the book immediately struck me - it was word by word identical with a sentence in Cobra's mysterious announcement of a new module.

And the sencence concerned... wait for it... F-14.

Highly effective at being a significantly less effective A-10?

With a service ceiling of 10000 and a speed that makes an A-10 look sporty this thing is a sitting duck anywhere that isn't Columbia. Its filling a niche that doesn't need filling, and filling it less effectively than something we already have.

In the mean time DCS is dying for a high fidelity 4th gen fighter aircraft.

Which one is going to sell like a hotcake?

Warning: Nothing I say is automatically correct, even if I think it is.

Well we will see what they are planning very soon. :)

Do, or do not, there is no try.

Any chance you can be more specific about which sentence you are talking about? :smilewink:

I'm not making an argument for the AT-802U. I think it would be an interesting addition but I too would prefer more 3rd and 4th generation fighters + 1970's onwards attack helicopters. That said, I think you're wrong on the AT-802U. It packs up to 8 hellfires and has the internal targeting camera. That's a fair amount of punch. It is less than the A-10C of course, but those hellfires are a lot more reliable than cluster bombs and rockets at killing tanks and air defenses.

As for its speed, low speed can be an advantage. The faster your plane flies, the less time you have to target and attack ground targets. This is why the Ka-50 consistently out performs the A-10 in MP despite the A-10 theoretically having all the advantages. The AT-802U can't hover, but it can fly slower than the A-10 and still maneuver. And it isn't like the A-10 is going to outrun anything but a chopper anyways. It is a very slow plane. On a typical 104th mission, as unrealistic as they are, my Ka-50 consistently beats the A-10's to the target area and back. Why? Quicker startup time and the ability to fire my ordnance more rapidly and with greater accuracy. The AT-802U won't be as good as a Ka-50, but I bet it's at least equal to the A-10C.

In any case, the AT-802U is on my wishlist but it's a bit low on it tbh. Things I'd rather have include (in no particular order): MiG-23MLD, MiG-27K, MiG-25PD, F-5E, F-4E, F-16C, F/A-18C, F-14A+, Mirage F.1, Mirage 2000, Gripen, Rafale, AH-1W, Mi-24P, AH-64A, Ka-52 and Mi-28.
