ghostdog688 Posted March 4, 2015 Posted March 4, 2015 Looks like a 21 but with a very wierd nose cone... Perhaps a modified one?
VincentLaw Posted March 4, 2015 Posted March 4, 2015 The big gray cone on the nose would have to be removed before flight. It is just a cover. 1 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
outlawal2 Posted March 4, 2015 Posted March 4, 2015 A MIG-21 with the nose cone covered due to weather? And since it has a US emblem on the side I m guessing a US maintained Mig-21 used as an agressor for training? ?? "Pride is a poor substitute for intelligence." RAMBO
Flagrum Posted March 4, 2015 Posted March 4, 2015 It is a movie prop according to http://gonzoaviation.com/clanok/usaf-mig-21-a-mig-23-filmovanie-na-budaors (+ google translate) for a movie called "Spectral".
Vedexent Posted March 4, 2015 Posted March 4, 2015 Since Hollywood movie makers painted an F-5 black and called it a Russian MiG-28, some Russian movie maker has added a nose cone to a MiG-21 and called it an American F-19
kirk7312 Posted March 4, 2015 Author Posted March 4, 2015 But those F-19 cannot fly.... because not air in-take... oh... wait... maybe they are rocket planes, they don't need air in-take:lol:
The_Pharoah Posted March 5, 2015 Posted March 5, 2015 Since Hollywood movie makers painted an F-5 black and called it a Russian MiG-28, some Russian movie maker has added a nose cone to a MiG-21 and called it an American F-19  Eh, didn't they call it a Mig 31? (you were in a 4G negative dive with a Mig 31). I'm sure of it but I could be wrong. Funny enough, in the movie (in that b/s 'classroom' hangar scene), they DO actually say 'we'll be using F5s and A4s as mig simulators' or something. I LOL'ed at that because you only ever see the A4s @ Miramar but the Black F5s during 'combat'....and they DID say it!! ;) AMD AM4 Ryzen7 3700X 3.6ghz/MSI AM4 ATX MAG X570 Tomahawk DDR4/32GB DDR4 G.Skill 3600mhz/1TB 970 Evo SSD/ASUS RTX2070 8gb Super
sissypilot Posted March 6, 2015 Posted March 6, 2015 I know the building it is in Hungary Budaörs airfield: http://hu.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buda%C3%B6rsi_rep%C3%BCl%C5%91t%C3%A9r Small grass airfield no way migs would fly from. I guess it is a movie. Some junkyard hungarian migs have been repainted and this nosething added. Here is the link: http://vs.hu/magazin/osszes/mig-vadaszgepekkel-keszul-a-titkos-budaorsi-forgatasra-ridley-scott-0829 It says a new Ridley Scott movie is being shot. The ownes of the place says he signed an agreement of secrecy with the producer of the movie.
mattebubben Posted March 6, 2015 Posted March 6, 2015 (edited) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2106651/ Ridley Scott dosent seem to be part of that Movie though. So seems to be kinda conflicting Reports. Edited March 6, 2015 by mattebubben
1.JaVA_Platypus Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 Perhaps the whole leatherneck staff got together to celebrate the opening of their office in Poland and got really drunk and made a MiG-21 with a AWG-9 radar. :D Happy Flying! :pilotfly:

I was looking for an intake as well. But within a few seconds, the lines were clearly a MiG-21. Nose inlet covers of some sort. DaveRindner Posted March 8, 2015 Posted March 8, 2015 Well, yes. Jerry Brookheimer and Don Simpson Productions opted to use F-5 from Navy Aggressor squadrons to represent fictional MIG-28. That was in 1985, so you cannot blame them. This was before sophisticated CGI, that made possible 3D rendered MIG-29's in Air Force One (1997), and ID4(1996), and AMAZING work done by Digital Domain in creating CGI F-37, EDI UCAV, and SU-37's for Stealth(2005). ILM is likely working on TopGun 2, where Maverick (now a USN Commander O-5), flies a F-35C with drones, against SU-30/35 and enemy drones. There was 'talk' to replace F-5's with CGI Mig-29A's for 3D re-release of original Top Gun, but it did not happen. Top Gun 2 pre-prod and production has been problematic. What is called 'production hell'. Partly of Cruise's heavy commitment to Mission Impossible franchise.
SUBS17 Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 Perhaps the whole leatherneck staff got together to celebrate the opening of their office in Poland and got really drunk and made a MiG-21 with a AWG-9 radar. :D There are some awesome upgrades for the Mig21: Upgrade programmes[edit] MiG-21-93Russia now offers an upgrade package to bring late-model MiG-21s up to the MiG-21-93 standard. This package provides an upgrade of the avionics suite that includes installation of the Kopyo pulse-doppler radar, smaller version of N010 Zhuk airborne radar used by the MiG-29, which enables the aircraft to fire a greater range of modern weapons such as the beyond-visual-range Vympel R-77 air-to-air missile. The upgraded avionics also enhance the aircraft's survivability as well as its ability to engage enemy fighters. Other upgrade features include installation of a dual-screen HUD, helmet-mounted target designator, and advanced flight control systems. MiG-21 2000MiG-21-2000Single-seat 21st century version for export buyers. Made by Israel Aerospace Industries.[3]MiG-21 LanceR Romanian Air Force MiG-21 UM LanceR-BUpgraded version for the Romanian Air Force done by Elbit Systems of Israel and Aerostar SA of Romania. The LanceR-A version is optimized for ground attack being able to deliver precision guided munitions of eastern and western origin as well as R-60, R-73 and Python III air-to-air missiles. The LanceR-B version is the trainer version and the LanceR-C version is the air superiority version featuring 2 LCD MFDs, helmet mounted sight and the Elta EL/M-2032 Air combat radar.[2] IAF MiG-21 BisonMiG-21 BisonUpgraded version for export, the Indian Air Force being the first customer. Equipped with the Phazotron Kopyo (Spear) airborne radar, which is capable of simultaneously tracking 8 targets and engaging 2 of them with semi-active radar homing air-to-air missiles, such as the Vympel R-27. The radar also enable the fighter to deploy active radar homing air-to-air missiles such as the Vympel R-77 when an additional channel is incorporated. Russia has claimed that this version is equivalent to the early F-16. The Indian Air Force has since then upgraded its avionics with the addition of Helmet Mounted Sight (HMS), ability to fire High Off-Boresight missiles like the R-73 (missile) and Tactical Data Link, improving further its already formidable WVR Combat capability, and has performed very well even against F-15C Eagles in Cope India and Red Flag Exercises.[4]MiG-21-97MiG-21-93 upgrade. MiG-21-93 re-engined with the Klimov RD-33 engine. The Russians have claimed that the evaluation at Ramenskoye Airport had shown that this version has beaten simulated F-16 in a mock dogfight with a score of 4:1. :smilewink: [sIGPIC] [/sIGPIC]
NeilWillis Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 I bet they're really fast without all that air going through the engine causing drag! I bet they can pull -4G in a dive! F-19Pis I think? :music_whistling: :music_whistling:
j.sabo12 Posted May 6, 2015 Posted May 6, 2015 Still a better effort than the 'MiG-28' ;) Boeing 737 NG instructor at Simulator Centrum in Bratislava, Slovakia
