IIIJG52_Otto_ Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 (edited) Currently, the aircombat WVR (within visual range) is very difficult in DCS because the closest contacts within a range of 2-3 km (1 or 2 miles) are not clearly visible. the flashes produced by the sun light in glasses and shiny parts of the aircraft are not visible now WVR aircombat. Does anyone know if EDGE will improvements in WVR air combat? Edited March 18, 2015 by III/JG52_Otto_+ 1 http://www.jagdgeschwader52.net
ED Team NineLine Posted March 17, 2015 ED Team Posted March 17, 2015 No info has been released on this right now. I would assume it will improve some, as well as allow more options for effects to help this, but we just dont have any info yet. Sarge55 Posted March 18, 2015 Posted March 18, 2015 Hopefully it will include some form of smart scaling to address this issue. Perhaps something similar to BMS. 1 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] i7 10700K OC 5.1GHZ / 500GB SSD & 1TB M:2 & 4TB HDD / MSI Gaming MB / GTX 1080 / 32GB RAM / Win 10 / TrackIR 4 Pro / CH Pedals / TM Warthog
TAGERT Posted March 20, 2015 Posted March 20, 2015 Does anyone know if EDGE will improvements in WVR air combat? I don't know if it will.. All I know is if it don't, WWII air combat will be so limited in the DCS world that I fear it will never stand a chance of becoming a good let alone popular WWII air combat simulator. It will fall into the category of a Microsoft like servey sim IMHO
Roadrunner Posted March 20, 2015 Posted March 20, 2015 can someone tell, at what distance an aircraft the sice of a mustang or 109 SHOULD be visible in real life without without giving away its position by reflections or so? and how far away can you spot in DCS due to pixel limitations? i also have problems spotting them, but when i do i dont loose them again ;) RR [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] "There's nothing to be gained by second guessing yourself. Bounder Posted March 20, 2015 Posted March 20, 2015 Really really hope ED will look at and a/c improve visibility, it's critical not just for ww2 but also Korea (Sabre & Mig15). DCS is an amazing sim but I feel it is let down by little things like LoD which don't do the fantastic FMs and a/c op modelling justice. DavidRed's mod (ACG WW2 mod) goes a little way to improve the current LoD situation but a proper official fix by ED is badly needed. ED Team NineLine Posted March 20, 2015 ED Team Posted March 20, 2015 Dont expect any major changes with 2.0 at release. What we need to do is wait and see how the new graphics engine effect things, along with new maps, etc and go from there. Python Posted March 20, 2015 Posted March 20, 2015 Nobody really knows. These kind of threads pop up all the time though so presumably ED are aware. You would hope the new engine will have some kind of affect but don't rely on it. I think everybody agrees spotting needs working on in DCS. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
gavagai Posted March 20, 2015 Posted March 20, 2015 I think everybody agrees spotting needs working on in DCS. Everyone does not agree, but the arguments never end in a flight sim community. I agree with the post above that advocates for Falcon4 style smart scaling. I agree with the post above that advocates for Falcon4 style smart scaling. Okay, there will always be an exception of course. But I don't think many people would fight for it to stay as it is, I.E near impossible to find other aircraft visually. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

It will fall into the category of a Microsoft like servey sim IMHO I really hope ED realises this , i don't own a single ww2 module yet becouse of this problem. Fighting WVR in the FC3 jets is a pain aswell... If they fix this i will but almost every module that relies on visibility (WW2 birds , korea jets , mig 21 , etc) I really feel like the community should "push" this more so ED can at least acknowledge the problem.. :( It would improve every aspect of the game so much
ED Team NineLine Posted March 20, 2015 ED Team Posted March 20, 2015 I really hope ED realises this It's been brought up for sure, but again, until EDGE is in place and fully optimized we wont know where they need to go with it... Anyways, I am closing this thread, its just a copy of a copy of a copy... 1 Forum Rules • My YouTube • My Discord - NineLine#0440• **How to Report a Bug**
