Hi guys.

During an evasive maneuver, the Mustang AI started to fly backwards. This isn't multiplayer, I was in a offline dogfight. I was flying an 190 and when I turned to get its six I couldn't believe it.

Also, I don't know why my screen turns dark when I use Warm HD option, that's why the screen blinks at the end.

It's a little weird, right?:music_whistling:

Typical retreating maneuver. The latest versions of the p51d, modeled in DCS, had reversible prop for inverted flow, and the ailerons even reversed their deflection for flying backards. Tail acted as a canard...

They were actually capable of reverse takeoff, a well known maneuver used whenever the enemy Panzer division entered the airfield through the upwind side of the rw.. After all, why do you think they put a mirror on those airplanes ?

Capt. Jimmy Backstuff describes it all in his excellent BACM book - "Fight Back, from behind it's a lot safer..."

Only thing I think DCS p51d still lacks is proper turn rate against the 109 on backward turning flight. The p51d shouldn't be able to turn inside of the 109 due to the slats effect in the 109, acting as drag chutes during backwards turning flight, another well known technique mastered by German pilots.

That is the best thing I've read all day  you are the master at explaining things!

One day in DCS... Vipers will fly along side Tomcats... Bugs with Superbugs, Tiffy's with Tornado's, Fulcrums with Flankers and Mirage with Rafales...

:)The Future of DCS is a bright one:)

I can't say anything about the P-51D crashing, but the effect where the sky flashes red and then goes dark has been a mystery for quite a while, and you actually supplied some video evidence; thanks!

Do you have the track?

Sorry Yo-Yo but I recently cleared all my tracks folder to get more space on my ssd. When I saw the Mustang flying backwards I only had time to hit the FRAPS key.

Looks loke he stalled in heavy headwinds, and as he fell the wind blew him back as the AI kept on full throttle.

No, it was the dogfight mission of Fw190 menu. No changes at all.

I drive on the highway like that sometimes. Cops sure like to follow along and watch when I do it.

The Hornet is best at killing things on the ground. Now, if we could just get a GAU-8 in the nose next to the AN/APG-65, a titanium tub around the pilot, and a couple of J-58 engines in the tail...

I got a track this time but the problem happened with another AI plane. I was just testing some setups with my MFD Cougar when the An26 starts to falling from the sky the same way of the AI Mustang that I mentioned in the first post.
