Hell I wouldn't mind donating money for better server preformance especially considering the hours of fun had on the server it's all worth it

 

Yea it might not be obvious but I am running this server solo in my living room on a machine donated by vyrtuoz.

Some cool people like CrimsonGhost and Ciribob are providing teamspeak and simple radio for the server through.

I also have crazy veterans that spend a lot of time on the server and help me by helping people, testing shit, proposing stuff and reporting problems.

 

The server became a community thing and yea, donations help to upgrade but also maintain server.

Wish I could have been there dust :(, as I said though safe travels and good flying. How unfortunate that you are converting to the Scarebus and its FBW bullcrap XD, by the time you get back you'll only be flying the Mirage and F-15C lol. Have a good trip and hope the send off was good.

So i was one of the few people who strongly supported the no AI CAP policy, and since last friday (the big fail of a patch) we had the chance to test the Server without AI CAP after a long wait :music_whistling:

i have two opinions about it :

 

1-when the server was full and both teams had fighters i think the server was more fun and challenging without the AI cap, we could actually play sneaky games and fly low without some godly AI spotting us from 50 miles away.

 

2- and this is when it got frustrating without any AI CAP, server had 7 or 8 people on it, 6 blue (4 Helicopters including me and 1 A10C) and 1 F15 who was fairly new and didnt know what to do.

Redfor on the other hand had a fighter and an F15 that knew exactly where the Blue Farp was and all he was doing after he shot down our F15 was camping by the farp waiting for Helicopters to take off so he can Aim 9 or Aim 120c them (Pics below show where he was camping and his last 5 kills) now i dont want to fame or shame the guy i just took him as an example and was too lazy to fade his name out, i even went on and team killed the guy for what he was doing (which was not the correct thing to do :cry:).

 

now my suggestion is if you can make it so that AI CAP spawns only when:

 

lets say n= number of people online

if n<5, AI CAP spawns in if the difference between fighters numbers on both teams is 1.

if n<10, AI CAP spawns in if the difference between fighters numbers on both teams exceed 2.

if n<15, AI CAP spawns in if the difference between fighters numbers on both teams exceed 3.

else no AI CAP :lol:

 

it is just a suggestions, please give me your opinion about it and sorry for the bad English.

Yea, we, at Open Conflict Corp, got wind of the incident and instantly called a team meeting.

 

Our community managers, Mirknir Ying and Yang, went first and their analysis of the incident were opposite as usual.

Mirknir Ying wanted to ban both side for breaking so obviously the "being a gentleman pilot" rules.

Mirknir Yang was more in a favor of not blaming the players for the temporary shortcoming of the map and the following troll and rage.

 

Mirknir, our game designer, was strangely happy.

He was glad that, without one of his policing feature (the AI CAPs), everything went to shit and humanity back to its base instinct ; trolling, raging, insulting and eating with their fingers.

"I guess AI CAPs are back" he simply said with a smile.

 

Mirknir, our level designer, was sad, as he always is.

Trying to do an awesome map while avoiding all DCS bugs and crashes and staying within the bandwidth constraint is getting to him.

We recently bought him a puppy for his trouble.

He proposed to do a quick version of the map with some AIs back as a quick fix.

 

Mirknir, our programmer, was distracted by the Windows 10 "An upgrade is ready" blocking popup that prevent DCS launcher from launching the server after a crash.

"Fukcing Windows 10 de MERDE!!!" he kept of shouting to his computer.

Worried by Windows 10 addiction to constant updates decreasing the server uptime, he still offered to put the AI CAP algorithm update at the top of the list.

 

So here are the conclusion of our meeting:

 

  • An updated map with AI CAPs will be shipped as fast as possible.
  • An updated algorithm for AI CAPs spawning and respawning will be implemented "soon" taking into account the brainstorming we already did like:
    • The more players in fighters, the less AI CAPs?
    • The more dishonorable kills (killing a MEDIC...), the more AI CAPs?
    • More difficult CAPs as the mission progresses?
    • ...

AI CAPs Respawn

 

It's great to be constantly reminded of how much you listen to the community, keep up the great work and the great server!

Right now, the AI CAPs respawn algorithm is:

 

  • X minutes after their death (respawn timer), the CAP respawns
  • X starts at 20 min and can drop to 10 min with an AI morale at 100%
  • AI Morale is increased by rescue, delivery and ground objectives completion
  • AI morale allows a group a helicopter or ground pounders to 'increase' their protection by doing what they like.
  • A CAPs can have different version like once, it's mig23 then it's F16.
  • -aa will display these information

 

For the next version.

Listening to you guys feedback and trying to combine this with my vision of the server, I was thinking of building on top of what I already have:

 

  • Keep the previous rules with some twists
  • X minutes after their death (respawn timer), the CAP can respawn
  • The AI morale still decreases the respawn timer.
  • A dead CAPs that can respawn...
    • Will respawn if the difference between the number of fighters between team is too great (or more rules)

    • Will reevaluate its potential respawn every like 5 min

     

    [*]A dead CAPs that can't respawn yet (respawn timer not elapsed)...

    • Will force-respawn when your side suffers a dishonorable kill
    • A dishonorable kill will be a MEDIC kill but could be somethings else.
    • The culprits won't be shamed or anything but won't receive a good kill message

     

    [*]Any dishonorable kill suffered will also increase AI morale thru the well know patriot effect

    • So even if there is not dead CAPs to force spawn, the dishonorable kill will still "increase" the protection

     

    [*]AI Spawn will be displayed in the objective notification popup so that people know when they happens.

    [*]After 6 dishonorable kills, 666 AI F15s will be spawn without patrol zone limits and will smite the opposition... or not :lol:

 

 

I think it will be easy to understand what's happening while still having dynamic rules and without punishing anyone.

Sorry Mr. NASA6 i dont want to fame or shame you i was just too lazy to sensor your name.

 

Jokes aside, how is that considered troll or camping? i was just flying my side of bulls eye, scanning in circles and i couldnt find anything after i splashed the last F15 other than CAS/transport assets. Should i just ignore them, continue flying in circles and keep looking out for enemy fighters (eventhough there were none at that time) and let them kill my friendly AI ground forces? Whats the point of being a combat air patrol asset then if im not there to support them or keep them alive?

 

Mr. NASA6, you could've just stayed in your team and pick a fighter rather than switching team and intentionally team killing me. You even have a better chance of shooting me down rather than me shooting you down because i was flying in my part of the bullseye (which is close to your FARP) and i got spiked by SAM all over the place.

 

Mr. Mirknir, im glad you listen to the community and found a way so that hopefully this kind of thing will never happen again in the future.

I like your ideas Mirknir for the CAP. I never liked the idea of the 'no CAP' version before the crash patch, and the limited version we currently have proved my concerns because fighters (once the initial dogfight scrap is won) can skulk in the hills just outside of the enemy team's protected zone and use the AWACS to surprise attack anything that enters the conflict zone until they run out of ammo/fuel or someone dedicates time to flushing them out.

 

I know people complain about the F16s and their spamraaming and I have to admit it is indeed annoying, but those F16s provide a much needed level of defence for ground pounders and helos on the unstacked team. Therefore I was thinking (I know I've suggested something like this before but I'm building on your ideas) of a couple things:

 

After the initial respawn timer has expired, if the teams are even the AI CAP spawns as usual in what I'll call 'normal mode'. This is the base fighters like the MiG-23s but could be another legacy aircraft like the Mig-21, AI Mirage 2k, or Mig-29A/G. They provide a base level of defence for both team's ground pounders and are basically there as extra targets to take the bullet/missile before the attackers giving them time to hide/flee/do a bert and shoot them down.

 

If there is a small stack (using NASA6's algorithm or similar) or there are small number of dishonourable kills (I would say killing medic helicopters, strafing of landed helos, strafing of crash landed planes who haven't re-spawned yet) then 'boosted mode' AI spawns on the next trigger, which would be the F16/F15E, SU27/30. As we already know these more powerful planes tend to be a real pain in the ass for fighters and so are a more powerful defence, and could serve as an incentive to players to even out the teams so they don't spawn these guys.

 

If there is a large stack or continued dishonourable killing then a 'super mode' could be used. I think this could be in the form of 2 pairs of 'boosted mode' fighters, one on the coast and one more inland, or using 'super' fighters, which would be the F14 (leatherneck plz) or the Mig-31. Personally I would say the F14 could wreak too much havok unless you limited the AIM-54s to 2 per plane (so 4 total), so I would say use the Mig-31s. Their R33s have double the range of the SU27's R27ERs, but are also Semi-Active (Fox-1). This means they can't spam them and the targeted plane gets a launch warning straight away. To compensate for their insane range they'd have to sit almost in the safe zone, but they would be dragged in whilst firing the missile so they couldn't sit in the safe zone and splash players that way :) It would take a concentrated effort on the part of the stacked team to kill these supers and so could help balance the team, for the same reason as the 'boosted mode' spawns.

 

Keep up the good work Mirk, the 'crazy veterans' will tell you that I haven't stopped pestering about the donations, we need to 'make Open Conflict great again' :lol: This patch has borked our favourite server and as the most common players on the server we aren't about to stand by and watch it flounder without helping in some way!

By being a low level, AWACs spamming IR missile fighter! Only difference is, one takes a bit more skill to actually detect and kill the enemy with ;)

Thanks for reminding me what an asshole i am when anger gets me, really need to work on that :mad:

i apologize for my bad behavior, and a short answer to why i went with team killing instead of taking a blue fighter is that i wanted you out and doing that from blue side would have just made you want to come back and kill more.

 

anyway as i mentioned in my original post it was not the correct way and i am not proud of it, so i hope we put this aside and start again :thumbup:

With such small teams I would like to suggest setting up two servers :) I spend to much time waiting for a free slot, instead of hunting eagles and falcons :P

That rule is so vague, you could literally ban anyone and claim they broke the gentlemen rule. Also please enlighten me on how Scarface broke the rule because from what I'm seeing he was just shooting down enemy aircrafts in a game where you need to shoot down or kill others whereas NASA on the other hand raged like a three year old kid, switched to his team and killed him.

 

Summary: You should probably define this rule and give a few examples of what exactly you mean so it doesn't lead to confusion amongst players.
