kazereal Posted September 28, 2015 Posted September 28, 2015 If the patch for the Mig-21 isn't already in ED's hands, it isn't likely to make 1.5 anyway. There's no talk about how long beta period is going to be. Beta is still a phase where new fixes and updates can be integrated to fix problems found during it (or before). "I would have written a shorter post, but I did not have the time."

xaoslaad Posted September 30, 2015 Posted September 30, 2015 (edited) this smoke test its gonna take some days guys relax!!! By their very definition smoke tests are supposed to be quick and _not_ takes days... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smoke_testing_(software) In particular, "A frequent characteristic of a smoke test is that it runs quickly, often in the order of a few minutes and thus provides much quicker feedback and faster turnaround than the running of full test suites which can take hours or even days." And my professional opinion is that that is a completely accurate description. Ours are basically along the lines of: the application installs, configures, runs, services start, you can log in, etc. all in all less than 1 hour if done by hand and that's with an up front installation that takes several minutes on its own. We basically ensure we're not handing the QE guys something completely broken. If they need to do a full barrage of tests that's fine, but lets not call that something it's not. Edit: and to be clear I know well that releasing something to the public often takes more than just uploading something to a web server for download, that that may take considerable time, and that they may well be in the process of doing that for some time. My long winded point is that testing that takes days probably does not fall under the category of smoke tests... Edited September 30, 2015 by xaoslaad
