BigBruv Posted October 16, 2015 Posted October 16, 2015 Every download and add on now says minimum spec is 64 bit os and 2 gig graphics. I am running 32 bit os, dual core processor, 1 gig graphics card and 4 gig corsair ram. Will I be able to run A10 c or am I wasting my money.?? 1
Brisse Posted October 16, 2015 Posted October 16, 2015 No, you would have to find an old version (which makes it a waste of money in my opinion). 32-bit is no longer supported. There's no excuse for running a 32-bit operating system in this day and age though.
BigBruv Posted October 16, 2015 Author Posted October 16, 2015 Not sure my mobo will run 64 bit to be honest. I built this one a while ago and just recently upgraded the graphics from 512 meg sli to 1 gig. Looks like I'm stuck with Microsoft flight sim x for now.
7rooper Posted October 16, 2015 Posted October 16, 2015 Your MoBo hasn't much to do with with 64 or 32 bits computing. All you need to do is install a 64 bits operating system which will work with any reasonably old MoBo -not one with ISA sockets and EDO RAM- even its the processor installed is 32 bits only. The OS will work regardless of this configuration as long as the computer meets the minimum requirements in RAM memory and technology My rig specs: Intel Core i7 4770 @3.4Ghz // Corsair 16GB DDR3 // MoBo Asus Z87K // HDD 1TB 7200RPM // eVGA Nvidia GTX 760GT 2GB DDR5 // LG 3D 47" 1920x1080 // Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS // Saitek Combat Pro Pedals // Thrustmaster MFD Cougar pack // PS3 Eye + FTNOIR
King_Hrothgar Posted October 17, 2015 Posted October 17, 2015 (edited) As said by others, a switch to 64bit shouldn't be an issue by itself. My real concern would be the hardware. It sounds like you have a very old PC, probably from around 7-10 years ago. That kind of hardware simply won't run modern games. Edit: I should point out that my current system (less than a year old btw) is listed as the new minimum spec, but it runs DCS very well (typically 60fps+ at 1080p and max detail, even when dodging trees). It is certainly possible to run a lower spec machine with good results, but I have serious doubts about your machine. Of course, it does depend on exactly what's in it. I have seen some frankenstein setups on this forum that run DCS far better than most would expect. But the upcoming DX11 requirement is a hard limit. Any GPU from before 2009 is simply incompatible. Your processor has to understand the 64bit instructions or else you will not be able to run a 64bit operating system. The reason DCS demands a system that understands 64bit instructions is that with 32bit you are only able to use 32^2 memory addresses which corresponds to 4GB of memory. Using PAE, a 32bit system is able to address more than 4GB in total, but due to the way paging works, you are still limited to 4GB per process. For that reason processor developers came up with 64bit instruction sets about 10 years ago. -Mathias My System: Intel Core i7-4770K, Asus ROG Strix RX480 O8G, 24GB Ram

Gary Posted October 17, 2015 Posted October 17, 2015 I have no idea if the steam 32bit version differs from the DCS website download version or not. I would imagine though that any 32bit version you got working would also work with the A10c....but I'm no expert....all at your own risk! I5 - 1TB SSHD, 256 SSD - Nvidia 1070 - 16gb ram - CV1
King_Hrothgar Posted October 17, 2015 Posted October 17, 2015 I was under the impression 32 bit support was dropped long ago, perhaps it wasn't. I think 1.2.16 is the official release version, though most or all of us are playing the 1.5 open beta. In any case, your machine just barely meets the official minimum specs for the old version. My recommendation is if there is a 32bit version of the game still offered, then try the free Su-25T first. If you're happy with how your machine runs it, get the A-10C. If you aren't, then don't as both aircraft should give similar performance. At least they do for me on both my current and old machines.

BigBruv Posted October 18, 2015 Author Posted October 18, 2015 I know I can run 64 bit. It's just the whole thing of reinstalling everything again, Downloading all the drivers and all. Plus the fact that I'll have to buy windows again, I don't think they will just give me an activation code for it cause I want 64 bit. I'll stick with the old stuff till I can afford a better rig.. Thanks all.
pacotito Posted October 18, 2015 Posted October 18, 2015 I think the activation code should work with both 32 and 64 bit as long as you use the same version of windows as you have on 32 bit. I could be wrong though? Pacotito I7-5820k@4.5 Z99 extreme4 16gb ddr4 520gb ssd. Gigabyte ssc GTX960 SSC 4gb
Art-J Posted October 18, 2015 Posted October 18, 2015 The bottom line is, install DCSW (it will get updated to 1.2.16 automatically) fly around with free Su-25, place some AI units on the map, do some shooting, play with settings and see how Your PC handles it. Everything else depends on results of this test. i7 9700K @ stock speed, single GTX1070, 32 gigs of RAM, TH Warthog, MFG Crosswind, Win10.
joey45 Posted October 18, 2015 Posted October 18, 2015 Depending on the version of windows you have it can be updated to a 64 bit version. The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance.
