An AH-64 would be awesome. I know it's been suggested before but the more people that ask, the higher probability of a 3rd party creating one.

I don't think it has been fully declassified yet, and as such Eagle Dynamics won't be able to get hold of a lot of information (especially system wise) on the AH-64. Thus building a simulation around it is impossible as it is more guesswork than facts during the development.

But since we are on the topic, I figure the Mi-24 would possibly be a nice alternative, as it has been fully declassified to my knowledge and has served significant roles in multiple wars. I'd love to see an Mi-28 (the Russian equivalent to the AH-64) but don't think it is declassified yet.

Agreed, the AH-64A would be an excellent module and should be very doable. In general, I'm for all the major attack helicopters but the AH-64A is number 3 on my wishlist (Mi-24D/V/P and Iranian AH-1J being above it). I don't know why anyone would think it isn't declassified at this point, it most certainly is. At least that's the case for the parts that matter in a video game.

The OP did not specify the model and lots of people want a D, which is a whole different can of worms.

True, but I'd actually prefer an A. It was the only type used in the 1991 Gulf War and a major type in the initial part of the 2003 Gulf War. It's also a better fit with other DCS modules currently in development.

I sure want one, but I would rather get a Tiger. Since the latter is probably even more classified I would be happy with an AH-64(A).

That's what she said :D

DCS Panavia Tornado (IDS) really needs to be a thing!

Block 1 is perfectly fine. I don't expect the gunner to control drones in the simulation. AH-64xxxxx; doesn't matter to me, I just would love to have a respectable Apache sim to fly. Franze and Nodunit actually made one for Arma. Deserves respect but it is definitely not DCS study level or even survey level quality.

I would settle for an AH-1"W" Super Cobra or AH-1"Z" Viper as well.

Some green lit developers were making an Apache but it had issues:http://www.combat-helo.com/forums/topic/please-give-us-a-response-developers/page/2/

But since we are on the topic, I figure the Mi-24 would possibly be a nice alternative,

We already have the KA-50; a high fidelity super-copter. I think we need a NATO chopper that has equal notoriety.

AH-64A is ripe for a high fidelity sim.

Agreed

My main reason for suggesting the Mi-24/28 is that they have seen significant combat action in almost every military conflict Russia partook, whereas the Ka-50 lies somewhere between 2-4 actions.

The thing is, helicopters are different from planes. An airplane by it's nature wants to fly, and if not interfered with too strongly by unusual events or by a deliberately incompetent pilot, it will fly. A helicopter does not want to fly. It is maintained in the air by a variety of forces in opposition to each other, and if there is any disturbance in this delicate balance the helicopter stops flying; immediately and disastrously.

Copy that. I understand your point. I think the top 2 priorities should be a Study-level Russian Multi-role and study-level American Chopper.

ED started working on AH-64A, but, there was no news about it for few years..i hope they are still working on it, together with the F-16C.

I'd love to seethe F-16; though Falcon BMS 4.33 did a fantastic job on it. I think I read somewhere that ED halted development. I know their was a solo project that was greenlit but it too fell apart. The biggest issues with the 64 are the ocular components. Supposedly the pilot(s) have an HMD that allows them to access a camera view through one eye while the other eye concentrates on flying the chopper.

The AH-64 does have that weird monocle but that's more of a design issue than a technical one. The question isn't how it can be done, it's how do you want to display stereo vision on a single 2d screen. Fortunately, this problem has come up so many times in the past for all sorts of video games that the solution has been standardized. Of course, no compromise at all is required for VR, but that's an uncommon thing for now.

In any case, I'm unaware of any AH-64 or F-16 work being done by ED or any of the licensed partners. The F-16 was brought up as an aircraft that could benefit from the code used for the F-18's radar, but there was never any claim they were actually planning to make one. It was simply used as an example. I recall one of the ED guys even clarifying the issue when it popped up after being mentioned in that particular thread.
