peterj
SwAF pilots refer to JAS 39 Gripen as a '39', "trettionia" in swedish. In some videos they call it JAS 39, but not Gripen. Add the aircrafts you know, I'm particularly interested in what VVS pilots call the Su-27 and MiG-29 :)

For example in Poland all polish Su's are called as "Suka" (translation: "Bitch") - not becouse of its characteristics ;) but just a word formation.

Cobra360
Apperently Su-25 pilots call it the Rook. Again, don't have the Russian translation. The Tornado is known as The Fin to it's pilots, in the RAF. The Su-27 has also been called the Azure Lightening aswell by its pilots. In Israel the F-16A/Bs are Lightening while the C/Ds are Thunder, the 16I is the Hammer. And to really confuse things the F-15 is known as the Falcon. In South Korea the F-15K is called the SlamEagle. The F-15E is sometimes called the MudHen is the USAF aswell.
59th_LeFty
Just for example, here in Hungary, sometimes we call the MiGs as "big iron" as translated. ("No, the sukhoi is the big one - no its the bigger one") :) The JAS 39 EBS HU Gripen is called almost everywhere as the Gripen. In the media, everydays, etc. But I'm sure she'll get some kind of newbie name soon :D [sIGPIC]http://www.forum.lockon.ru/signaturepics/sigpic5279_1.gif[/sIGPIC] I could shot down a Kitchen :smartass:
Force_Feedback
The Mi-6 was called the Cow (корова in Russian) due to its terrible handling and inability to take off vertically with a full fuel load. The Su-25 is also called the Comb due to its pylon lay out. Creedence Clearwater Revival:worthy:

Love these two :D The SLUF can also be called 'Short Little Ugly Fellow' for more mild language. A well known one is Turkey for the F-14.
golfsierra2
The Tornado is known as The Fin to it's pilots, in the RAF. The Tornado is called "Klappdrachen" (foldable kite) in German slang and the Phantom II goes as "Luftverteidigungsdiesel" (air defense diesel) because of its large smoke trail... kind regards, Raven.... RvETito
In Bulgaria the MiG-29 has several names but the most popular is "the twin-barel" because of it's twin-engine design. The MiG-21 is known as "the pipe" , I guess for the very same reason. As for the Su-25 and Su-22 I've heard only "the small Su" and "the big Su" respectively. The L-29 trainer was called "the vacuum cleaner" for sounding so funny. In Russia the Su-25 is popular as "the raven"(грач), the MiG-23 as "the crocodile", the Su-27 is "the crane"(журавль) as been said, the MiG-29 is a "swift"(стриж) which gave the name of the Swifts(Strizhi) demo team. F-15E-Mud Hen F-15C-Albino Concerning the F-4 : "Double Ugly" would be pronounced as "Doubly Ugly" (british) F-4 aka "Rhino" aka "Luftverteidigungsdiesel" (Airdefensediesel) because of its J79 smoke plume. F-104 aka "Witwenmacher" (Widowmaker) aka "Zipper" Panavia 200 Tornado aka "Klappdrachen" (negative meaning , usually used by phantom pilots calling the tornado a swingdragon , swing as swing wings) Piaggio P-149 "Pitchy" these are some terms from the german airforce :D Flip "Imagine the reason that people hold on to hatred so stubbornly is because if the hate is removed, the pain will set in. And to really confuse things the F-15 is known as the Falcon. Some small corrections ;) , F-16A/Bs are called "Netz" which means Hawk, C/Ds are called "Barak" which indeed means Lightning and the Is are called "Sufa" which means Storm. The F-15A/B/C/D are called "Baz" which, you were correct, means Falcon, (and now called "Baz Meshupar" or upgraded Falcon after the MLU) and the Is are called "Ra'am" which means Thunder. 6700K | ASUS Z170 | 32GB RAM | GTX 680 | 850EVO
