Cripple Posted February 3, 2016 Posted February 3, 2016 1) Even looked out of the window on a submarine? Exactly, that's going to be a bit of waste of the DCS engine. Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge (WW2) U-boat fan, but even I would acknowledge that it's 99% boredom as you track the enemy down... then hide from them. Modern subs surface even less frequently too. 2) If you want to sub-hunt from the air, do you need the sub to actually be sub-marine? Can't it just be an invisible (or very very small) surface vessel who's radar/sonar return is modified by the notional depth it is at? You're hardly going to be expecting to acquire them visually, then straff them while they sit on the surface, are you? scottb613 Posted February 3, 2016 Posted February 3, 2016 DCS: Uboats Hi Folks, While I'm an ex US Fast Attack sailor - and - certainly appreciate submarine combat - I really don't think DCS is the proper venue - or at least everything required for true naval combat would have to be built from the ground up... If you want a taste of what real modern submarine combat is like - there is only one sim to try - Sonalysts Dangerous Waters... It captures many aspects quite well... ED Team NineLine Posted February 3, 2016 ED Team Posted February 3, 2016 I dont think I want, or would ever see a full blown sub module, but I think they need to be in, in some basic form like we have other naval vessels, I mean we are getting a chunk of WWII pacific soon... I think we need a couple subs working reasonable well :) Forum Rules • My YouTube • My Discord - NineLine#0440• **How to Report a Bug**
Northstar98 Posted February 3, 2016 Posted February 3, 2016 I don't know if you've been following development.. but.. Su-33, F-14, F-4U? those will all take advantage of new carriers.. (maybe not so much the F-4U) Exactly, superb carrier aircraft, next no naval environment at present (the proposed new carriers do look fantastic though - I just hope the naval environment gets more attention alongside these great icons in the sky Modules I own: F-14A/B, F-4E, Mi-24P, AJS 37, AV-8B N/A, F-5E-3, MiG-21bis, F-16CM, F/A-18C, Supercarrier, Mi-8MTV2, UH-1H, Mirage 2000C, FC3, MiG-15bis, Ka-50, A-10C (+ A-10C II), P-47D, P-51D, C-101, Yak-52, WWII Assets, CA, NS430, Hawk. hansangb Posted February 3, 2016 Posted February 3, 2016 I know there isnt many votes, but quite surprised by the poll, at least I would like some AI ones, and operations related to them... interesting. I think it's because people are reading it as "would you like to command a sub in DCS?" And not as 'would you like to bomb one' :D hsb HW Spec in Spoiler --- i7-10700K Direct-To-Die/OC'ed to 5.1GHz, MSI Z490 MB, 32GB DDR4 3200MHz, EVGA 2080 Ti FTW3, NVMe+SSD, Win 10 x64 Pro, MFG, Warthog, TM MFDs, Komodo Huey set, Rverbe G1
tobaschi Posted February 3, 2016 Posted February 3, 2016 http://www.sonalysts.com/ would be a great partner for naval operations
104th_Cobra Posted February 3, 2016 Posted February 3, 2016 I had fun with Sonalysts's SubCommand. It would be a blast to stalk and sunk a Carrier. Why not? :) 104th Cobra [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Angelthunder Posted February 4, 2016 Posted February 4, 2016 While i would like to control & hunt subs,i think ED should first focus on the carriers and surface ships above the water.Maybe implement Destroyers, Battleships,Patrol Boats,Cargo & Refuel Ships first. Then add 3D explosion effects that includes them sinking under water from bombs or missiles & torpedoes. As for what type of subs to make, this would be the real challenge since current modern ones like the Ohio Class & LA Class Attack Subs are most likely classified.

Absolutely agree with you there Angelthunder I for one would prefer for ED to fix and update the stuff that we already, the stuff that really needs it (some ground vehicles, most of the effects, explosions, sounds etc). But I am very strongly for having underwater modelling simulated. Vitormouraa Posted February 7, 2016 Posted February 7, 2016 (edited) No. We need a bit more planes in DCS, scenarios and etc.. more stuffs, then, who knows? But First I would like Destroyers and Carriers. Edited February 7, 2016 by Vitormouraa SplashOneGaming Discord https://splashonegaming.com

Vincent90 Posted February 9, 2016 Posted February 9, 2016 Altough I would love U-boats in the game, I don't really see how this could work, nor how this would be more profitable for a third party dev, than a stand-alone game. Currently, there aren't a lot of systems in place for submarine warfare in DCS. Subsims need HUGE maps and a lot of harbors/milk cows, rely a lot on Time compression and don't forget u-boats are sitting ducks against aerial combatants. On the other hand, the subsim genre has been dead for years. The best subsim out there is still SH3 (which is a 11 years old) and is plagued with outdated software, critical bugs and crashes and a patchwork consisting necessary mods. A modern simulator would blow it out of the water. This shows what a potential money maker it would be, but not in the DCS environment.
