DCS 1.5.2 stable WAS working great.

Just auto upgraded to DCS 1.5.3.

It is now anything but stable!

DCS is now broke.

It simply will not start. The hard drive light kicks in, the GPU kicks in, then nothing.

Ran repair just in case....

Run DCS - same result.

To be honest I am getting a little bit tired of this rather tedious upgrade path and constant problems.

Log files attached.

Did you not see the word 'Beta' !! ?? I saw it and realised it was not a full working version and may contain some bugs. Best you read the tin before you use it....Just sayin

Hi,

I meet the same problem that Gizzy,

There's few minutes I've launched normally my DCS v1.5.2 and one message tell me that I can upgrade my DCS v1.5.2 to DCS v1.5.3.

After this new upgrade impossible to start my DCS v1.5.3 one idea ?

Normally it's not possible to upgrade one stable version (Nor Open-Beta) to Open-Beta version, no ?

Here the screenshot that I have before to upgrade my dcs :

DCS%20v1.5.3.jpg

Thanks in advance, Skull.

Now you have me really confused, especially your reference to OPEN BETA.

As far as I am concerned I had the stable version NOT the open beta.

ED released this today "

DCS World 1.5.3 Now Available.

Ran DCS it auto updated and now it is broken.

What tin was I supposed to read? I think you are off the mark here...

What action do I take...

I have DCS 1.5.2 working and it's fine, I also have DCS 1.5.3 Beta and i's ok at my end but no doubt there will be bugs. They are separate installs so as not to bugger up my 1.5.2 (stable version). Ok with me thus far ?

I downloaded the new version (1.5.3) expecting it may or may not work as it clearly stated it's a beta release. So there you go, it's a risk to use beta software and you either take the risk or stay with what you know works. My 1.5.2 would not update to 1.5.3, ostensibly because it would make a stable version unstable. I had to get the beta 1.5.3 from the ED website to try it out, it had nothing to do with my 1.5.2 version. I hope this helps.

Excuse me but I can't understand your explanation, my DCS 1.5.2 is not "Open-Beta" but "stable version", when I've started my DCS 1.5.2 "stable version" one message inform me that I can upgrade my DCS to 1.5.3, never I've read Open-Beta...

For me it's a mistake from ED not us...

Once again the message that I have:

Thank, Skull.

I have just checked, my 1.5.2 will now allow me the option to update as it didn't before, so apologies for that. I just clicked no to the update as I want to leave it as it is and happy with the separate install of 1.5.3 which states it is in beta. .

I only have beta, not the regular version. But I had the same problem that it wouldn't launch after the update. I had to uninstall all mods, then it launched fine. If you have any mods installed, uninstall them and see if that fixes the problem.

After few tests I find the bug, it's not from ED but the Mod from Ranger79 "Ranger79 Base Objects Pack (Hesco's + others)" not work with DCS v1.5.3 ..

Posted

Here it is, for the person who asked where does it say 'open beta'

Three options,

1. DCS 2.0 (Open Alpha)

2. DCS World 1.5.2 (Stable version)

3. DCS World 1.5.3 (Open Beta)

Hope this clears up where the word beta comes from and what choice you have. 1.5.3 is OPEN BETA software.

I think the person has deleted his post now but no worries.

Yes, always take out all mods before an update or trying out beta software ;-)

Version 1.5.3.50487.22 WAS the Open Beta version since a bit under a week.

As of today, ED has decided it was stable enough to promote it to the latest stable version.

So the latest stable release of DCS is V 1.5.3.50487.22 as of today.

See link below;

http://updates.digitalcombatsimulator.com/

As a final note, the open beta client and the stable release are both running the exact same version.

Meaning there effectively is no Open Beta at this very moment.

***EDIT***

The use of the open beta version is that it runs a different updater.

This will update to the latest Open Beta release if/when available

The regular install has an updater that only updates to the latest stable release.

At the moment, both installs end up being the same.

As the OP here, let me be clear.

This was a normal automatic update from DCS Stable 1.5.2 to 1.5.3.

DCS will not start... Period.

Running the repair function does not change the situation.

No MODS are installed.

I even tried renaming the saved games folder to no avail.

I realise that other have successfully updated without issue.

Is it possible that ED can respond somewhere, rather than, as in some cases, smart arse comments, although helpful responses of whatever worth are most welcome.

I honestly do not want to download the whole shebang again... :(

Thanks for that, but yes, from the early days of DCS's path to EDGE all executables in DCS I set by default to admin...

Looks like ED's AWOL so it'll have to be another download using the rather slow torrenting... Probably part of their business strategy, release on a Friday, take the phone off the hook and go for a long beer... People will have it sorted come Monday morning ... LOL

You could try not running as administrator, it worked for me a few updates back.

I ran the 1.5.2 stable version today and successfully upgraded to 1.5.3... the updater used a mix of borrowing already downloaded files from my beta and alpha versions + torrent. So far no issues, although the first time I started 1.5.3 did take some time to load. My PC: Vista64, Intel Q6666, 8Gb DDR2, HD7950 3Gb DDR5 and a 480Gb SSD. My system runs dx11, I get 40 - 60fps... on medium GFX settings. I am most impressed how well DCS runs (esp on MP) on what is quite an old spec system. Congrats to ED on keeping the flag flying for lower spec machines...

If you are refering to me as a 'smart arse' ..let me tell you most people here have worked out what is what !! Maybe the problem is 'User error' ..Thank you :-)

I assumed that somewhere in the DCS structure file corruption has occurred and that the repair function is not identifying.

I renamed the first 4 folders in the structure and run the repair function. They were rebuilt, no change...

Did the next 4, rebuilt, good this did it, all appears to be working well.

This was quicker that a complete new download and install.

@Mizzy I find your comments, "Best you read the tin before you use it" & ".let me tell you most people here have worked out what is what !" completely unhelpful, bordering on being sanctimonious. To me they are unwanted but I suppose in open forum you get this type of behaviour. Reply if you wish, but that is me done on this topic.

Thanks all for your responses.

rename your dcs folder in saved games

C:\Users\yourname\Saved Games\DCS

restart dcs and allow it to create a new folder

redo settings

if it works you can move your input folder to the new location to save doing controls again.

lets stop the back and forth, so we can work the problem.

After a repair, thats the next thing I tried BN...

...I even tried renaming the saved games folder to no avail.

Resorted to renaming DCS sub folders 4 at a time & running repair until it was sorted. After 8 folders, Bingo! it works - saved a full complete download.

I can only assume some corruption occurred either in the update process or gameplay (I use MP mostly, and there are a few program crashes) and that the initial repair was not picking it up.

All is good now and seems to be working fine.

Thanks for coming in..
