No offense but isn’t this kinda a straightforward answer. Most flight simmers would get FO just for the experience. If you are asking who will switch over completely, I think that’s a little early to say because no one has fully played with it yet. Also, this thread just goes back to those flacon and lock on debates- in the end, just install all of them, there’s always room in the hard drive for another sim/game.

In 3-4 weeks we will, we will....

Personally I don't think fighter ops will live up to its expectations (becoming falcon 5, with non-paper FMs), I think it will be an outdated x-plane mod with heavily scripted flight control systems and avionics procedures. Oh well, we'll see it about 5 years, if it ever comes out. Don't know about FO itself, but you can always buy their coffee mugs if the project gets ditched.

Fighter Ops

I went to their page and looked around.

When they started asking me for money for some kind of exclusive prewiew

club I did a quick Immelman and bugged outta there.

I am very excited about the upcomming release of BS.

I will buy it as soon as it is available.

Groundpounding is about to take a quantum leap.

It's going to be fun.

LOMAC will be long gone by the time FO gets out. Its simply NOT going to happen anytime soon with the work donne so far and with the objectives they have set for the SIM.

I think I'll try it, but I don't think it will even be a canditate for my main sim like Lock-On.

I also don't like how they present their game, asking money for even screenshots. I last checked it about 6 months ago, and there is NO noticable content change in the website as I checked it now. So it will arrive maybe in 3 years with "WHAZZAM it's released!" effect and only players will be Area51 members because there's no presentation ftm :)

Theres alot of speculation here, area 51 is not compulsory to follow the sim development. You can just observe the forum and website and get a pretty good idea on whats going on. The Area 51 guys have the news straight away and direct contact with the developers plus contests etc. The rest of us get the news a month later so its no big deal and not compulsory. As for the sim itself, I think alot of people into jet combat sims are looking forward to it. The last decent F-15E sim was Janes F-15E so a new sim is long overdue same for the F-16 although AF & F4s mods have been good so far.

To be honest with you guys, I really doubt that Fighter Ops will ever be released...

So far they have shown that they are very talented modellers, but not much more...and the models seen in the screenshots at their site are pretty much all too detailed, and complex to be used in a game using todays hardware.

My guess is that if we'll ever see a playable version of Fighter Ops, its years into the future.

If they havent finished anything else than the models shown on their website, they have ALOT of work left...

Well...if it turns out to be a half-way decent flight sim...I'll buy, and fly regularly. Honestly, to ask a question like "Will you play LO or ditch it for FO?" is absurd...its like asking..."would you rather have food or water?". FO is an ambitious project, and when it succeeds, I'll be the first in line. Notice how I said "WHEN"...FAITH, boys and girls, sometimes all it takes for something to succeed is to hear enough people say "Hey, we believe in you.". These guys are developing what is hoped to be the next generation in flight sims, so its not a bad thing...right?!!! The devs, to our benefit, are always trying to "one up" each other, but they also realize they're not in a cutthroat competition like in the FPS market.

XSI spent a day with the USAF and a couple of them went for a ride in a T38. Just so ya know there is no reason not to have both Fighter, AF2 and FO on the hardrive.

If there is any logic in that statement,..it escapes me

so you are saying because 2 of the team took a ride in a talon..it means its gonna be a good sim....:poster_dont:

As for now there's no way I can tell I'm gonna fly FighterOps and LockOn at the same time. LO will be long forgotten and replaced by some other future sim, before FO gets released.

FO is years away and I remember how many years I waited painfully for lockon so I’ll just tune into FO when you can buy it.

I already have 3 flightims on my HD with plenty of room for one more ;) however my only concern will be how it is distributed, I heard a while ago that they may ask for $100 dollars a year or some kind of annual fee .. to be honest I doubt I would be interested in FO if their distribution procedures went in that direction.

There's always room for a good flight SIM out there. Just realize one thing about Fighter Ops:

When has any sim made the ambitious claim that if you get through their training program, you'll have some of the (more critical) sills taught to a real combat pilot? I think this is the first one to do that & if they pull it off, it will revolutionize the way we fly on the servers!

How many of you LOMAC gods out there are the BFM gods you think you are? Fighter Ops may allow you to live up to that title if they've modeled UPT and IFF appropriately (hopefully with human IPs teaching - which is what they're talking about doing).

That's not the point, and if you read carefully you'll notice the T-38 flight was only the icing on the cake. That trip they made to this airbase allowed them to take thousands of pics and hundreds of videos of the airbase so that they can accurately model it. They also gathered plenty of information on USAF training procedures and they made a bunch of contacts for the future.

So yes it's gonna be a good sim

It might also be useful for a few of the FO team to actually know what the C Talon "feels" like, since it is my understanding that this will be one of the first aircraft modeled. I like the idea of a sim with high fidelity flight and control models coming in modules, along with geographical details coming in modules. It gives endless possibilities. If those FO guys want a ride in a T-6 Texan (the modern version), or a T-37 Tweet, I know of a private owner who could use a little extra cash. OK...the Texan is a PC-7 instead of a PC-9, but the two are VERY similar. ;)

I am a Area 51 member and alot of opinions here are pessimistic...

I choose however to be optomistic.

The difference is the hype. This game this forum is based upon was so overhyped and overblown.. even I fell to it's wave.. but FO has been upfront and straight forward with everyone.

Thing main thing I see differently than LO, is FO has Real Pilots involved with the project and make themselves known. LO doesn't, but everyone here, who have never flown a SU, MIG, F-% will tell you everything is correct and real....and that a SU radar cone operates at a frequency of ..such and such.

This is one of my main complaints with this crowd (and I like most of these folks)

As for that t38 ride... wouldn't you expect someone who share our passion, try to put that real experience in the sim they are developing? If not...why

are they even try to code it?

I say.. give them a break and show your support for a possible new twist on flight sim that just may surprise you.

The idea is the first part will be for training similar to RL (obviously it can't be totally real) THEN after that Fighter trainings, THEN you go out on a Mission that you take off from Oregon and get assigned to (ie..Saudia Arabia) and you have to FLY there....

LO you just have a island.

Thanks,

Brett

Well actually there is, two of them went for a flight and rest took photos and sound files. etc Its a good thing if the people making a sim have actually been in the aircraft that is being modeled, its also good to have actual pilots as Advisors as well. They spent hours doing safety briefings and all that stuff so it wasn't just a get in the T38 and go for a joyride.

Thats because its a yearly subscription but you don't have to get a new subscription every year. You could get FO one year and just stick with that only thing is you would not get any further addon aircraft or updates etc. At least thats my interpretation from what I've read.

[sIGPIC]2011subsRADM.jpg

Actually calling it an "Annual fee" or "yearly subscription" is not accurate, you only pay once for the program, and you will be able to fly that program along with the free updates and add-ons you get throughout the year for as many years as you want.

There will however be new releases approximately every year which will add substantial content to the sim, however will be stand-alone packages, which again will be yours to use for however many years you want without paying another cent. Therefore to call it a yearly fee or subscription is highly misleading.

There is nothing stopping someone waiting three or four years to by their first copy of Fighter Ops, the copy they get will be the same as the person who has purchased the new editions every year for those 3 or 4 years, they'll just have missed out on the enjoyment and experience of those years of flying.

Posted

Ah so it's not a fee but simply regular payware add ons? That's good. But what happens to online players? For example, if someone doesn't want to buy a particular add on (eg if they are not interested in a particular aircraft)? Will they (as with most sims at the moment) be forced to buy the add on anyway if they want to keep compatibility with others, or are you going to try and build in a work around?

If it's practical to follow the workaround course, you may find you win a lot of friends, but not being a programmer I don't know if something like that would be possible.

Another question I'd love to see answered, is what type of campaign system will Fighter Ops use? Are they planning something along the lines of the F4 campaign engine, or something more simplified?

I'll most likely get Fighter Ops when it's released provided my PC can run it (not intended as a snide comment about the software, but purely at the moment I can't even think about PC upgrades..... Well I can think about them, but I'd have to starve to death to afford them!! ).
