Focha Posted March 8, 2016 Posted March 8, 2016 Hi all, Am I just the only one or there are more folks around here who thinks Beta 1.5 is really frustrating? My experience in TAW server... Took off with a Mig-29S and started to stalk via mountain valleys, then when I approach the targets, a huge, but I mean, HUGE break! Then, after a few seconds, dead on the ground. Each time it's all the same. I'm starting to think about changing over 1.2 again, are there any servers left on the stable version? A flight simulator with this performance, kind of sucks, because it is really frustrating to fly a lot of time and then dead hitting the ground... Not blaming anyone, but me, sure 1.5 is great and 2.0 is also great, but as long as it is like this, no thanks. After the initial wipe of the visuals and map, when it starts to matter the MP, then is a game killer. Huge about of memory being eaten all the time. Anyone also has this experience? Regards. Buzzles Posted March 9, 2016 Posted March 9, 2016 (edited) I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but your rig doesn't meet minimum spec for 1.5/2.0, let alone recommended, so isn't really fair to blame ED for the lack of performance on your machine: Your machine (assuming your sig is up to date) ASUS P5Q-PRO|E8400 @ 3.00GHz|8 GB DDR2 Black Dragon Quad Channel @ 800 MHz|NVIDIA GF GTX 660 2 GbED's specs from: http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/downloads/world/stable/ Minimum system requirements: OS 64-bit Windows 7/8/10; DirectX11; CPU: Core i3; RAM: 8 GB; Free hard disk space: 30 GB; Video: 2 GB RAM card, DirectX11 - compatible; requires internet activation. Recommended system requirements: OS 64-bit Windows 7/8/10; DirectX11; CPU: Core i5+; RAM: 16GB; Hard disk space: 30 GB; Video: NVIDIA GeForce GTX780 / ATI R9 290 DirectX11 or better; Joystick; requires internet activation. We all know DCS is CPU heavy, and your CPU falls quite a bit below one of the rather old Core i3 series: http://www.cpu-world.com/Compare/498/Intel_Core_2_Duo_E8400_vs_Intel_Core_i3_i3-3220.html Your GFX card is now 4 years old, and is also quite far behind the curve. In short, have you got a birthday coming up? Might be worth treating yourself to a little present :) Edited March 9, 2016 by Buzzles Fancy trying Star Citizen? Click here!
HiJack Posted March 9, 2016 Posted March 9, 2016 Change your local settings down all the way to low (yes I know it will look bad) and fly around for one hour. Especially disable all shadows, afterburner and textures to low. Also check out that you have set the connection speed according to your Internet speed. What connection speed to Internet do you get when testing?
FeistyLemur Posted March 9, 2016 Posted March 9, 2016 1.2 was the frustrating experience to me. It ran so poorly on good hardware.
Focha Posted March 9, 2016 Author Posted March 9, 2016 Well, I guess I have to sell all the modules, because I cannot afford a new PC. My internet test says 100+ Mbps. I wondered if the problem is exclusively that of my hardware, since when flying solo, in the missions, I don't get this kind of behavior. But you are correct, my PC is below minimum specifications required to have a good experience. Regards. Hadwell Posted March 9, 2016 Posted March 9, 2016 yeah for MP the recommended requirements from the website are pretty well the minimum requirements... might get away with 8gb ram and a gtx770, but an i5/i7 overclocked to ~4ghz is almost a must. an SSD really helps, you get lots of micro-studders and/or screen freezes if you try to play DCS multiplayer on a platter drive. Frostie Posted March 9, 2016 Posted March 9, 2016 I used to run a core2duo with 6gb ram, whilst 1.2 was manageable when I switched to 1.5 it was virtually unplayable, constantantly freezing every minute. Took some hardcore tweaking to make it work. Upgrade is the only way my friend. "[51☭] FROSTIE" #55 'Red 5'. Overclocking and more than 8GB of ram are unnecessary for 1.5 (12GB+ should be considered the minimum for NTTR). Agreed on the SSD though, that makes a world of difference.
HiJack Posted March 9, 2016 Posted March 9, 2016 How much did you invest in your PC? About 3000 - 3500 $ . Did all the building myself. But prices in Norway are completely crazy. :prop:
BFBunny Posted March 10, 2016 Posted March 10, 2016 Don't worry. I did not have a gaming pc for over a year and DCS seems to have gotten a lot better in my absence. I think I spent around $600 on my pc. I was on a strict, tight budget. It does mean I've had to sacrifice a few treats and outings while I claw back the money I spent on it. But I5, 16gb ram, ssd, gtx 770. Does the job. Shadows kill my video card, but with everything else to high the game runs 60 to 120fps in mp. My last pc I was even tighter on an brought one good part each month. The pc was still playing dcs fine till the motherboard imploded and I decided it was time to upgrade anyway.
Focha Posted March 10, 2016 Author Posted March 10, 2016 It's crazy how fast hardware become obsolete now days. It's a lot to invest. Does anyone know what will be the trend of new tecnology in the next two years? Meaning, will the i5 and i7 price be lower or will it remain the same? How much do you think my current hardware would sell on second hands? Thank you guys. Sent from Tapatalk via Samsung Alpha. Agreed on the SSD though, that makes a world of difference. Up until a couple weeks ago I was playing with only 8gb of RAM and it worked fine as long as I restarted my client after every sortie, but now that I have 16gb, dcs is so much better, way less studdering, and no out of memory warnings right before I try to launch a missile, I only use 1.5, I really wouldn't tell someone 8gb is enough, cause really it's not, but the game is still playable with 8gb, if you don't mind performance decreasing the longer you play So when I say get away with, that's what I mean. And overclocking may not be nessisary, but if your 3.4ghz CPU can be overclocked to 4.4, that's a huge performance gain, and it would not only make the game run better, but better by a significant amount. Only going to get cheaper, but I don't think we're ever going to see the massive performance gains we saw in the early 90s and 2000s ever again... Computers last a lot longer now before a major upgrade is needed than ever before. I mean... Look at my computer's specs, compare them to a brand new machine also running at 4.6 ghz... The new machine will be Barely faster, though much less power hungry. Just look at the price of a low-end 486 in 1994, and compare it's specs to a computer that costs 1/10th that today... eg. 4mb of RAM for 300$ in 1994, 32gb of RAM for that today... Oceandar Posted March 10, 2016 Posted March 10, 2016 Just try join a server with less client. You probably have better luck in there. Up to 10 people join a server can give alot of stutter and not to mention when mission designer put alot of units in there.
