jfri Posted March 19, 2016 Posted March 19, 2016 I get the impression that it is some kind of alternative to the training tutorials apart from combat not being covered. I have done the training tutorials many times. Does this new campaign offers something I don't already got. One specific thing to ask about. In the description it's said that 'you will fly 12 performance check rides to execute against pre-defined performance objectives. If successful, you will earn a “Qualified” rating and proceed to the next performance objective.' What does 'proceed to next performance objective mean' ? Anyone have tried this out yet ?
WildBillKelsoe Posted March 19, 2016 Posted March 19, 2016 I have the advanced which leads me to think its more about "starter" package of getting introduced to A-10C. Frankly, I think its great for the newbies but for 5 years of flying I think I can skip to advanced. I think 12 objectives are required to get into the "how do I fire this thing" class next. In simpler terms, you bought a car, now you get to "know" your car a bit like reading the introduction section of your car manual. Where the ignition is, the console, how to back up, how to get on time, how to use the folding mirrors, how to gas your car (like where the cap is and how to open it) how to change CD's, load music change climate control, adjust seats, etc... Then I suspect something advanced will come next, like how to perform loops, how to change the 3rd gear into 4th without breaking the transmission, how to open the oil and check for consistency, how to drift, etc.. Maybe later something like motor overhauls, how to minimise spoiler drag, how to clean the gears of the gearbox, etc... Baby steps AWAITING ED NEW DAMAGE MODEL IMPLEMENTATION FOR WW2 BIRDS Fat T is above, thin T is below. Long T is faster, Short T is slower. Open triangle is AWACS, closed triangle is your own sensors. Double dash is friendly, Single dash is enemy. Circle is friendly. Strobe is jammer. Strobe to dash is under 35 km. HDD is 7 times range key. Radar to 160 km, IRST to 10 km. Stay low, but never slow.

He's got some point, Sabre :-) although, the overall idea is nice: the campaign really lets you practice some somewhat more advanced flying before getting down to serious business in combat campaigns. The true benefit would be if we got "combat mission ready" training as well. The true benefit would be if we got "combat mission ready" training as well. Yes this is just our first incantation. We are planning on redoing the voice overs so will remove the Cadet references. We have an Advanced Aircraft Training campaign coming that covers weapons systems and once qualified would rate you Basic Mission Capable (BMC). After that there is a Tactical Training Campaign that covers JTAC/AFAC, CAS, CSAR, Deep Interdiction, etc. Once qualified that would give you Combat Mission Ready (CMR). You can read about the history of these campaigns in this thread. MapleFlagMissions - Read Our Blog for Updates
Avantar Posted March 22, 2016 Posted March 22, 2016 Ah, indeed Sabre - there are Advanced and Tactical trainings for A-10C :D Great! I didn't see any for F-15 and assumed it's like this for every platform, but I am (gladly) mistaken. BTW, are they going to be sold by ED as well? I'd be happy to buy them for A-10 but rather have them from official store - that means waiting for 2 other parts, right? Thanks for the update Sabre! Yes they are coming including F-15C, MiG-29G and Su-27! We need to update the audio to a higher quality standard and ED still has to approve the content. This will delay some of the other campaign work in progress (Su-25, Su-25T, Su-33 and MiG-21) but hopefully we will get the audio to the right levels and then the campaigns should come out quicker. Remarkymarkable Posted March 22, 2016 Posted March 22, 2016 I'm on step three of the training and the thing has me flying heading 260 at 260 knots at 8000 ft forever. I'm 35 miles out over the ocean and I get no further instructions. If I deviate from my heading, speed or altitude, I get a reprimand. How long does this take? Anyone fly it before? I can't take much more of this!

We will look at making the zone bigger in the next update so it's harder to miss. Here is how the mission should play out: Edited March 22, 2016 by Sabre-TLA MapleFlagMissions - Read Our Blog for Updates
Remarkymarkable Posted March 22, 2016 Posted March 22, 2016 Hi Sabre, thanks for your reply. No, I didn't get the PO start message
Sabre-TLA Posted March 23, 2016 Posted March 23, 2016 (edited) Hi Sabre, thanks for your reply. No, I didn't get the PO start message Try flying straight to WP 2 once you takeoff. The mission is setup to meet the FE at WP 2 and then turn back towards Batumi. I'll check the triggers to make sure nothing is amiss. EDIT: Retested ok. Don't turn before you hit WP 2 even if the route marker changes. Then you will hear the Start PO message. Edited March 23, 2016 by Sabre-TLA MapleFlagMissions - Read Our Blog for Updates
Remarkymarkable Posted March 23, 2016 Posted March 23, 2016 OK, thanks. I've done the ocean flight twice now, not fun.
Remarkymarkable Posted March 23, 2016 Posted March 23, 2016 I'm wondering at what altitude should I make the turn after takeoff, also if it's OK to use auto pilot during these missions?
Sabre-TLA Posted March 23, 2016 Posted March 23, 2016 OK, thanks. I've done the ocean flight twice now, not fun. Yes these missions will be very frustrating if not flown precisely to the briefing. There was a set of practice missions that didn't make the first release due to an installer problem. The intent being that you fly the practice mission first until you are confident then try the campaign qualification mission. The practice missions have runway or in-air starts so you don't have to repeat the lengthy A-10C start-up procedure each time. They should be available in the next update. It's a challenge to predict every player's action but we have done our best to make the triggers robust. Keep reporting feedback and we will adjust the triggers if necessary. Sabre-TLA Posted March 23, 2016 Posted March 23, 2016 I'm wondering at what altitude should I make the turn after takeoff, also if it's OK to use auto pilot during these missions? The altitude turn is up to you but certainly after your aircraft is in clean configuration (gear and flaps up). Usually the Flight Examiner will advise when autopilot can be used (that's actually one of the tests in one of the missions) but we don't penalize you if you do. Remarkymarkable Posted March 23, 2016 Posted March 23, 2016 Ok thanks, I made it to the cross-wind leg of the pattern and got flown into the side of a mountain! I guess I missed another trigger? Why isn't the altitude based on radar altitude?
Sabre-TLA Posted March 23, 2016 Posted March 23, 2016 (edited) Ok thanks, I made it to the cross-wind leg of the pattern and got flown into the side of a mountain! I guess I missed another trigger? Why isn't the altitude based on radar altitude? It is coded to what your HUD display or Altimeter reading is provided you set QFE correctly but if you are off altitude there are triggers that should tell you. What was the last message you heard? I suspect it was this one: "Make a left turn into the Crosswind Leg heading 040. Maintain the pattern altitude and between 200 and 250 knots." if you are off heading somewhat that's ok (there is some leeway) but ensure you fly to the next waypoint as the trigger zones are tagged to the waypoints. The heading is a guidance instruction but you still have to get to the waypoint. The next instructions you should hear at WP5: "Make a left turn into the Downwind Leg heading 300. Maintain the pattern altitude and between 200 and 250 knots." Again fly to the waypoint for the next instruction. If you are hitting the waypoints directly then the trigger zones should fire unless there is a different problem going on. If you don't hear a trigger follow the flight plan anyway as the next waypoint might give you a different instruction. Edited March 23, 2016 by Sabre-TLA MapleFlagMissions - Read Our Blog for Updates
