The P-38 art looks pretty sharp on Leatherneck's website...
+1 mate. All their art looks pretty indeed, P-38, Hellcat, Wildcat, F-4E... and also they look soooo 3d renders we all hope they're working on... :D

Posting to keep this thread alive. IIRC, only American fighter to remain in service throughout the war. Twin engine reliability and used in most, if not all, theaters. Multirole capable. Charles Lindbergh flew it and so did America's top ace. I say, P-38L for DCS.

P-38 Lightning

I know this is an old thread but I'd LOVE to see a DCS P-38 Lightning.

It was an extremely important aircraft in it's design originality and aeronautical performance as well as being a prolific Fighter/Bomber. It saw combat in both Europe (originally) and the Pacific (ultimately) killing many-a-foe along the way !!

Oh PLEASE someone produce a Clickable Cockpit P-38 Lightning for DCS World / Normandy.

I would murder an entire litter of beautiful kittens if it meant getting an Eagle Dynamics P-38.

(Hopefully, E.D. won't demand such a price for it; I like kittens.)

I agree 100%. I found this thread because I saw the 262 on the roadmap discussion, people talking about the Meteor and other jets and I thought to myself: "Where is the P-38 first? Where's the Mosquito? Where is the FW 190 with shorter fuselage? Where is the Gustav?" I agree that the 262 belongs, but IMHO it should be a late release after many other aircraft. And I heather see DCS go back in time and release a duel series of Fokker Dr.I vs Camels or Spads vs Albatroses for example than to invest in a Meteor, Vampire? Why would I ever buy that? They already have Sabers and Mig 15s in a historical, legendary duel. Nothing will ever top that.

But of course I imagine a P-38L and late P-38J equipped with hydraulically boosted aileron control -- if I am not mistaken. Even to get a Mosquito in DCS. Damn... What a dream.

Weeelll it is nothing concerete buuuuttt.... there is this:

As you may know, Leatherneck split into two companies a while ago, one portion (Magnitude 3 LLC) retaining the Leatherneck brand...

They stated they still have the Corsair in their pipeline, but it is not their next module.

They have also got a new website design after the split, the new site has a "coming soon" page under the products section, and above image is the content of this coming soong page.

I have downloaded it, and the increased its brightness, contrast and sharpness to make it more visible. It reveals a WIP 3d model of a P-38 nose section in the background.

So, Leatherneck's next module MAY be a P-38, or maybe not... but I guess there is some hope for you folks :music_whistling:

Wishlist: F-4E Block 53 +, MiG-27K, Su-17M3 or M4, AH-1F or W circa 80s or early 90s, J35 Draken, Kfir C7, Mirage III/V

Thanks for the info  That would be super. The bad part is that we might be talking years down the line if ever.

Hard to say, but the WWII section of DCS (I don't know the rest) seems to be more about warbird enthusiasts than combat. Hangar stuff, grease and engines. It works to a certain level for me.

I don't think so as it has been said many times before that stuff on their website is just background art/previous work done by team members (eg, the F4 used was a render of Milviz's one which Cobra worked on).

I'll just keep my fingers crossed .. while in the meantime, enjoying (and sometimes not !) the many modules I already own.

But I'll be sure to buy the P-38 the instant it ever does become available.

Yes that was the case pre-split. But as far as I recall those were assets licenced by Cobra himself, who is now on another 3rd party.

New site does not have those backgrounds anywhere other than the coming soon page, unlike the previous one.

That's why I believe it may indeed be a clue. Keyword is "maybe" of course, in the end yes it may be like the backgrounds in the old LN site.

Either way it would be a shame to release other non-representative / niche aircraft and leave the P-38 behind. And the aircraft is a beauty -- and the lady has a 20mm cannon...
