The cam marked "W" is for use with the Warthog grip which is veryyyyy heavy....heavier than it needs to be. The springs with the black dot on the bag provide the most resistance. Depending on what kind of response you prefer, I'd recommend only putting the W cam and black spring on the pitch axis at first.

I'm not sure what you mean about the connector being switched. I can only speak for the Vintage Mamba but after quickly glancing at both links I don't see a difference.

What's the difference between this an the Warthog?

Please I'm not talking about an A-10 vs whatever the mamba is, more of a technical spec and performance?

Thanks.

There are two different instructions, one for the "Vintage Mamba" which describes moving the button connector lead to the opposite PCB, and one for the "Mamba" which doesn't, but in the meantime, I answered my own question; the connector needs to be moved to the other PCB as described for the "Vintage Mamba"

The main difference is the fantastic gimbals of the Mamba. The Warthog alsways felt very stiff and choppy. Precision flying needed a lot of force holding the stick in a position - it was very tiring. Also I didn't like that "sticky" feeling. Once I disassembled the Warthog I was very disappointed at the low workmanship of the main gimbal ball. There were visible creases and mold lines. So without major overhaul that sticky feeling wouldn't change.

The Mamba spring gimbals are a work of genius. Adjustable and very smooth. With the Warthog adapter you get the best of both worlds. A great stick setup like you are used to with all the buttons and hats you need, a very smooth gimbal system and as a bonus - tons of switches and dials on the stick base - which make flying in VR so much easier.

The Mamba stick itself is nothing to write home about. Very cheap plastiky feeling and not enough buttons. Also the lose triggers can be a problem.

Problem "solved", this grip (Cobra M5) is no more used by VKB, although in the near future they don't have a "jet" like replacement... :)

I got mine last week too. A pleasure to work on, to switch the cam and springs as needed for the Warthog grip. I tried both can designs (10 and 30) and went back to the 10 on the X roll axis. No center bump feels a lot more natural for me.

Totally agree! Super smooth, too..

Same with mine. The only complaint I have is how underdamped it is with the warthog grip due to its mass. If anyone has any ideas on where to find and how to implement a small viscous damper, I'm all ears!

That's a nice thought, I'm not sure how you could implement that easily though. Makes me wonder if VKB could design their next line with something like these internally:

http://www.walmart.com/ip/43989241?wmlspartner=wlpa&adid=22222222227032384060&wl0=&wl1=g&wl2=c&wl3=63410633912&wl4=&wl5=pla&wl6=127091064992&veh=sem

For what it's worth, you can/will mostly adapt to that underdamped response. I built a huge metal center stick with a nearly frictionless motorcycle universal joint and a bunch of springs... same effect. At first it felt incredibly unnatural, but eventually I adapted and wouldn't notice until someone else flew with my stick. Not an ideal problem but better than the sticky center of the TMWH, for example.

Installing dampers on the axes would be a treat. I'm pretty sure VKB has already thought about that but as always it's probably all about production cost and mechanical effectiveness, reliability and refinement.

VO101_MMaister used viscous dampers on a custom gimbal and flight stick. The result is very interesting, to say the least.

It would be fantastic to see something similar offered as an option for the future VKB gimbals (Gunfighter or any future gimbal evolution) (and if it could be adapted to the current gimbal design).

no, i means they need a throttle like warthog for their modern fighter stick.

nah, but their new metal grip is wwii style, sigh.

will be different models of grips, and a they plan 2 throttles.

the ww2 style that VKB show me is more than great......

Ugh....for somebody that's just discovering VKB, what are my options going to be for a base for the warthog in the future?

Sent while I should be working instead.

hey bro, where you find that?

I know they are working on the gladiator with throttle, but don't know this cool.

(and i sill hope they could develop a modern fighter one with lots of switch and button, just like fat king. LOL)

Why another A-10 (or F-16 or Fxy) throttle now? The market already have this:

Image from Reedit topic.

Warthog throttle can be bought standalone.

We - prop simmers - nee a proper "WWII throttle": with levers for prop pitch, mixture, radiators, rotaries for trim, etc - not "slew" and HAT corners.

And, believe it or not, are more "pro simmers" around than "jet simmers". :D

But I dont believed that VKB will produce a model like this teaser in drawing - I see that "dark side of Force" are working in Russian forum... :(

BTW- I have a shelved Tm TQS and Suncom SFS throttle (both USB'erized), dont find then appropriated for WW II planes, and my "jets" are only DCSW Mig-15 and Mig-21.

gunfighter + stick extensions looks very good. but if only it has more buttons swiches on the grip.

do you know how much money will it be when it is released? and compare to warthog, which one should i buy?

i use both helis and planes, does stick extension help as heli cyclic, or just an eye candy?

Gladiator PRO - that have plastic case/grip + all metal ball bearing CAM gimbal was announced for USA/Canada for 250$.

Gunfighter base is all metal (standard grip is plastic Gladiator model), the USB controller sit in the "Black Box" a separated metal box, add interface cable cost.

So can expect Gunfighter for around 280/300$.

Extension (20 cm) for Mamba was sold for 70$ (USA).

Reference: Stratojet PR - see in News (to avoid this forum embed the PDF link - already posted here):

Extension for WW II planes is beneficial (specially in one sim with "rubber band wobble" FM), for fly-by-wire "jets" will be only cosmetic.

Warthog stick (alone) ~ USD 300

VKB Gunfighter stick (alone) ~ USD 300 [estimated]

Warthog 20cm extension ~ USD 90

VKB extension ~ USD 70

Now, if want stick AND throttle, then its more complicated:

Warthog Stick and Throttle ~ USD 400 [sometimes available on flash sales for $300]

VKB stick and throttle .... ???
