I always like to watch a lot of real-world videos when learning a new aircraft in dcs and I thought why not post up some I found.

Please add more if you find them :)

Here's a six part BBC documentary from the 90s about pilots trying to get into the Army Air Corps. While training they fly the Gazelle (the first couple of episodes are more about basic training before they get into a helicopter.) I've linked the first part...

Great documentary. I remember watching that when it was first aired all those years ago.

I think I missed it when it was on first time round.

Great insight into the Army Air Core selection process and loads of Gazelle footage. Should be mandatory viewing for DCS Gazelle pilots :-)

Awesome documentary, thanks a lot for sharing!

I only wished the uploader had synch'd audio and video. In all parts there was a delay of circa 2 seconds, pretty annoying. Anyway, it was just too interesting not to keep watching. :)

I noticed there's some sort of 'telescope' that the co-pilot uses in these videos, is that something that we'll be getting for the rocket pot and stuff?

Looks like it's linked to the sighting system the AAC uses on their Gazelles (or did so in the past), which looks pretty different from the Viviane of the French version that Polychop simulates. It'll be interesting to see what type of aiming device we'll get, but since the Viviane can already be used to guide the HOT3 missile, I guess it would make sense to also use it to guide/aim other weapon types and not add another aiming system on top of it.

No probs, thought it was too good not to share.

Yes the audio sync problem is annoying but it's still watchable.

Re the sighting system, the AAC definitely used a different spec to the French. I think the Gazelle was just used as a scout helicopter in the UK and not as a weapons platform (I think the Lynx with TOW missles did that job before the Apache was purchased). Not sure though, if anyone knows more/different I'd like to know.

Would love to see a Lynx module in DCS.

Saw one taking off from a sports ground at the BMH (British Military Hospital) in my hometown when I was an adolescent. Man that thing was loud from close by! Would be an awesome addition to the list of DCS choppers for sure.

This flys like the gazelle...moving forward when light on skids before lifting in the air. Just put some missiles on it and we are there!:megalol:

I've never got that close unfortunately, I just like the way they look and the fact they're fast and can do rolls etc.

I think the BO105 will have to do for now, looking forward to that one.

Here's a video that's probably old news to some, but recounts the story of a Lynx and Gazelle trying to find and destroy and Iraqi tank during the invasion of Basra. The Gazelle is used in an observation role and isn't mentioned much (the Lynx is the focus) but it covers some tactics and is generally interesting, hopefully (note, the uploader has made a mistake and refers to the Apache, it's not.)
