Hey Guys,

So i was playing multiplayer last night and when i fired both my R3R and R-60M missiles (what i was equipped with at the time), i heard the engine starter sound (after every launch) followed by the "Engine Start" warning light.

I'm just curious, is this a real feature or is it a bug? :)

Feature, apparently. The start activates to prevent engine flameouts caused by injesting rocket exhaust gases.

Yep, the smoke from the missiles apparently had a bad habit of getting into the engine, so the APu starts up when you shoot now, I still find it disconcerting though.

If I recall correctly, launch anti-surge system in Su-7s and MiG-21s operated on principle of automatic reduction of RPM coupled with engaging igniters. No APU involved here, so I'd say using the same sound sample we hear on startup might not be the best solution. We'll see how this feature is going to be optimized in future updates.

The sound of the whole engine starting process can't be the final solution, everything sounds kinda loop-ish and feebly and nothing like the real aircraft.

The sounds have been and are still one of the most overlooked parts of this module..

Funny how LN boasts about realistic sounds in the MiG-21 page on their website, considering the external sounds are stock Su-25 sound files from DCS...

Maybe everything about mig21 will go fine.

Actually you should know that the Su-25 uses two Mig-21 engines :D

So yeah i think the external sounds are Ok at some point. If u ask me everytime I'm in pit and there is a Mig spooling up engs I can tell there is a Mig near me.

Sorry?! As far as I know the R-25 was used on the MiG-21bis and Su-15bis only. I mean, there are not even afterburners on the Su-25.

We can't properly change external sounds currently.

Cockpit sounds are fine. Sans the starter sound bug.

Every single unique sound to the MiG-21 was recorded in an active duty MiG-21bis cockpit at Batajnica AB.

I have no doubt you actually have the recordings of a real Mig-21, just let down by the external sound implementation and why it's taking so long. I have pretty much every DCS module and implementing sounds never seemed too problematic for the other devs.

Thanks for the reply everyone. As for me, i'm happy with the mig-21 and I'm really excited once we get the realistic external sounds. But even now, this is my favorite module. Thanks LN and thank you Cobra!:)

Definitely one of my favourite modules too! I hope to see it ironed out soon ;)

Dude like I told you in the other thread, stop spitballing unless you have legit evidence.

At some point you'll have to come to grips with the fact that this module is not perfect and has things that need fixing. Living in denial of this and policing the forums trying to silence those who point out issues and bugs is only doing a disservice to everyone who bought the module and want to see it polished. Besides, stop being arrogant. I'll post whatever I think is fit and let the very efficient mods here do their job. I'm sorry if that offends you, dude.

R-25 is a replacement for the original R-13 engine used in the Mig-21. The R-95 and later R-195 engines of the SU-25 are, according to the internet, variants of the R-13. So yes, the SU-25 does indeed use two Mig-21 engines.

Asking for evidence is hardly being arrogant. It's the bare minimum expectation for the individual making the positive claim.

It honestly shouldn't be too difficult. The Fishbed's engine sounds are pretty disappointing, after all. It should just be a matter of file digging or just uploading a video to the youtube.

Reformers hate him! This one weird trick found by a bush pilot will make gunfighter obsessed old farts angry at your multi-role carrier deck line up!

I've never been in denial of this fact, and at one point even cut off my MiG-21 dedicated squad from flying the module based on its state. Every time you post a claim that has no factual evidence to back it up is effort the team must go in and research, and then fix(if it was even broken in the first place.) If it wasn't broke and you just " think " it should be fixed throws many man hours down the drain.

How does this effect our enjoyment? Less bugs gets squashed overall with the team searching down rabbit holes.

Now if you post requests for bugs to be fixed with say a sound file, or a video showing an actual Fishbed doing what you stated was wrong GREAT,the module is better off for everyone. Even if it's some basic aeronautical expertise or experience to back it up is better then nothing. This attention to detail gives LN the appropriate area in which to begin focusing their search. This is something that is absolutely crucial with smaller developers. I'm Out.

Well, I truly and honestly can't see what "legit proof" you or LN need with regards to poor external sounds. Did you even read the posts in this thread, or are you talking here about the other thread to which you still didn't reply after criticising my OP?

Cobra himself replied to me saying "We can't properly change external sounds currently". What else do you need? LN made the module, surely they know what is implemented or not, I don't think they need you or me or anyone else to inform them about it....
