How does Rift FOV compare to triplescreen?

So, I'd like to hear the opinions of those who have switched from a triplescreen setup, to the Rift.

Do you miss the wide FOV and peripheral vision that setup gave you, or do feel that the 3D vision and improved headtracking of the Rift actually makes up for it?

I'm kind of on the fence about buying into it just yet, as the Rift videos I've seen so far, make it seem like you look out on the world through a soda straw, with a seemingly very narrow FOV.

My common sense tells me to wait for the next iteration of VR devices, but then again, that could be several years from now..

Bro their is no comparison. Their is no tunnel vision feeling and seriously you feel silly going back to tiny pc monitors after being in vr I feel same way going back to a 55 inch 4K. Lot of experience with Nvg's myself so the rift fov doesn't bother me one bit. God gave us a neck for a reason.

Intel 8700k @5ghz, 32gb ram, 1080ti, Rift S

There is no comparison between screens and VR. VR puts you in the world and screens only let you be an observer.

I had 3-28" screens, and took them down within a week of getting my Oculus DK2. That was two years ago and I have never missed them.

I still use my surround setup to practice startups and procedures that can't be done in the rift because there is no kneeboard in VR. the lack of a kneeboard is the number one issue for me right now. I am very happy with it other than that. Having to peak out under the nose bridge to see the pdf for startup procedures is lame. Easier to practice those in surround. 3D surround is still no competition at all to the immersiveness of VR either. I run all 3 technologies on my rigs and VR is complete immersion. Absolutely amazing and has its place but it will not replace my surround setup though.

Thanks for sharing your experience with this guys, much appreciated.

I'm not so sure my wallet's going to appreciate it though

Just one more question,

I see a lot of talk about godrays on the various forums. Is that a problem/does it show in DCS?

I don't really care if there's some to be seen in the UI and such, but I wonder about in game.

Particularly night missions in the A10C, with the contrast between bright'ish MFD's and the black of night?

I see no issues w/ Godrays, my only minimal issue w/ god rays was when I lifted the HMD onto my forehead and got skin oil/residue on the lens, I keep the optics as clean as possible.

The Green seems to smear when I take pictures, but real to eye doesnt look like that.
