Hi

I would like your help because I don't understand what happens on DCS :

I have a 3570k@4.5Ghz + SSD + 16GB Memory + 980Ti@4K on Win 10 and I can't get more FPS on Bantumi city :

With these settings I have on a 30s recorded flight

f06b12d6fe362d6791acd7c7b4f442f0447a85f4.png

OCing my 980Ti to 1500/4000 I have exactly same fps

OCing my CPU to 4800Ghz same

I tried a lot of settings (mean fps) :

Default : 64 FPS

NO shadow : 85

Flat shadows : 70

Tree 25000 : 43

Visual HIGH + flat shadow : 70

Visual ULTRA + flat shadow : 67

Visual EXTREME + flat shadow : 65

It seems that Trees and shadows are impacting FPS, it's more graphical problem but OCing my GTX would help to have more fps. Without success.

It all cases, 980Ti is only used 70% and CPU 50%, I really don't understand why I can't achiev to have more FPS ? DX9 problem ? DCS problem ?

Thanks a lot for your help.

Does someone have a SLI or 1080 to test my track in 4K ?

I think you're hitting the limits of what can be done with current hardware.

Try this: HDR off, flat shadows:on, shadows: flat only. For a 3840×2160 screen resolution , 16xmsaa is way too high, try with 2x or 4x, and this mod for a nice FPS boost:

See Mustang post, no trees shadows.

I have an older CPU and twice your FPS....atv least in 1440p.

something is performing not as it should

I will look into a track, tho I havent done that ever before.

Anyway, why do you have MSAA set to 16x on 4k ?? This is absolut nonsense unless you have a 7x3m sized screen where edges will be visible even at 4k.

I have mine set to 2x on 1440p and cant see any edges far&wide.

Honestly, I think you can turn it either completely OFF or set it to 2 or 4 if you want.

Maybe that is one of the culprits you encounter.

2nd is the last option "Poussiere + Flare"....if I take ANY of thses I have a slide show like experience in F2. I dont think that setting is made for actual gaming but taking video sequences

for DCS movies...from what I have read so far. Try without...see what happens.

Elsewhere it's ok from what I can see from your settings.

Are you sure you see NO increase in fps when you overclock your CPU considerably ?

Well, mine runs stock 3.4/3.8 and when I oc while in game ( through Asus GUI ) I can see a considerable jump upwards in fps, regardless if my GTX runs stock or also 1500/8000.

I have expressed my finding in another thread, comparing similar things from 1.5 to 2.0 and the outcome is, in 1.5 your are heavily cpu dependant and its hard to impossible to fully utilise my 980 above 60-70% ( max perf. mode set, it does not alter clockspeeds ). CPU at 4.8.

In 2.0, it's very easy to normal to have my GPU at 99% most of the time with same settings.

For 2.x you most likely can make far better use of your GPU with same speed on your CPU, will benefit everybody. In general I experience better fps in 2.x than in 1.5x...but that is pretty much subject to change as one of them is alpha... I honetyl think it will get even better with beta and final stable, but that is just my personal feeling how things will turn out.

DCS is a bitch in configuring for max performance sometimes, then you finally made it..get online on BlueFlag...fly for 15min...and the server shuts down HAHA and we still love it.

We must be insane, at least my wife says so :)

Hi,

thanks for your help. You can see my results of this morning tests :

cc20c31e72956c81ef6376efa64523192c830468.png

If you want to compare on your computer with my track, first columns are HIGH preset+Starway 2, only removing depth of field.

As we can see :

  1. OCing CPU is useless
  2. OCing GPU bring some FPS
  3. Noshadow treeds mod bring some FPS too, thanks Mustang !

I think I will use Water MED, Shadow LOW, Range ULTRA, 20000 trees distance. We can see that it's only GPU bounded, not CPU.

I tried flat shadow on = no more fps, HDR and flare only 1fps, not significant.

Flat shadow instead of MED brings a lot of FPS but no more shadow in cockpit.

Could someone try with a 980ti or 1080 with this track too ? Thanks

Take off HDR and max it out. It works very nice for me. I know this is a very weak reply but it makes a big difference IMO.

Limiting Objects Draw calls will bring GPU Utilization and FPS Up.

DirectX API is your bottleneck.

Windows 10 Pro, Ryzen 2700X @ 4.6Ghz, 32GB DDR4-3200 GSkill (F4-3200C16D-16GTZR x2),

ASRock X470 Taichi Ultimate, XFX RX6800XT Merc 310 (RX-68XTALFD9)

ok, I would like to test with 1080 :)

Could someone help me to make static objects like boats in bantumi harbor spawn earlier ? They appear really late

Thanks

could someone help me for that ?

Thanks

You could try raising the lodMult in your graphics.lua higher than 1.0, experiment with higher amounts until you get the desired result without losing too many frames.

To add other tests : exactly same FPS (65) in 1920*1080 and 2560*1440 ...

what temps you get with your cpu and gpu while playing dcs? what cooling you have? maybe cpu throttling happening to you, if you get same fps with any settings. have you tried lowest settings?

Do You use default 2.0 Starway's package with uncompressed 8k textures, or the one with smaller ones? The quality difference is negligible (well, maybe on Your big screen it would be more noticeable), but the latter offer quite a performance boost.

GPU doesn't throttle and CPU is under WC

so what's the temps again?

I use default one. I have to use dds ?

Thanks

You can use whatever You want :D. I reverted back to 1.1, because it looked much better in my opinion, but the 2.0 .dds textures addon definitely offered better fps and smoothness (over default 2.0) while panning around with TrackIR, so I would at least test it If I were You.
