dodger42 Posted September 8, 2006 Posted September 8, 2006 Wow those are nice. They look an awful lot like the ones going up on FighterOps site. Bring lomac to its knees. Why? This hummer has only 250,000 polys :) But more interesting is this Abraham Lincoln: . . . Lockon Advanced Realism with Touch-Buddy
SuperKungFu Posted September 8, 2006 Posted September 8, 2006 im not talking about the hummers, its more like the planes that will be the fps killers due to the hi poly count. And yes they do look a lot like Fighter Ops because one of the the molders IIRC works at the mesh factory and they modify the models into less ploy count to fit that sim. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
dodger42 Posted September 8, 2006 Posted September 8, 2006 Makes sense. What are approximate poly counts for current lockon models? . . . Lockon Advanced Realism with Touch-Buddy
Guest Cali Posted September 8, 2006 Posted September 8, 2006 so technicaly we can make an mig-29k model for carrier operations? and a new f-111 model ? I saw a mod for the 29k.......I think it was at lockonfiles or the jaBog website. Check the JaBog website first. And I hooked cool_t up earlier today when my internet was working.

LawnDart Posted September 8, 2006 Posted September 8, 2006 Aerobatics teams that fly F-16s and F-18s which are model swap with F-15, can actually now adjust F-15 collision model (F-15-COLLISION.lom) to fit F-16 or F-18, which in the end can help them fly tighter formations... Just speculating... Good thought, but this is not the way it works. The model swap we've been using and currently are using does not inherit the collision model from its ancestor. For instance, our F-16's do not collide when the F-15 would have collided. Most of the formations we fly are so tight that if we play back a track without our mod (model swap of F-16 over the F-15), the F-15's end up flying INSIDE each other since the Viper is so much smaller. The big furball only occurs when the Viper clips wings, not when an "invisible" F-15 collision model registers a collision. Good thought, but not the way the damage model is inherited with a model swap... knellknell Posted September 8, 2006 Posted September 8, 2006 i believe one guy made a forum about this plugin but its a little slow at the moment. But its good to have a look see http://modeles.thinking-board.net/index.php Yes . I've make this forum for everybody to have place to share experiences about modeling and adding model in LockOn. Mirage IV (Lm format), is allready availlable there with his skin. Mirage F1 will follow soon, with at least 2 skins, maybe 3. It will be also a good place to speack about all differents models possible ( Aircrafts, ships, vehicules and more ) with a dedicated place for each catagory. Anybody is welcome, even for request or ideas or help So if you have some free time, i will be glad to see you there :) Cheers [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Shaman Posted September 8, 2006 Posted September 8, 2006 They never had a problem with that. Switching 3D models also switched the model's hit detection to the correct model as well. If that was the case, they could never get as close as they do. The F-15 is FAR larger than the 18 and 16. Good thought, but this is not the way it works. The model swap we've been using and currently are using does not inherit the collision model from its ancestor. For instance, our F-16's do not collide when the F-15 would have collided. The big furball only occurs when the Viper clips wings, not when an "invisible" F-15 collision model registers a collision. Good thought, but not the way the damage model is inherited with a model swap... Ai! As you can see I didn't know it already works properly. One thing I'm really dying for is some proper light towers for the parking aprons that actually light up the ground so that in night missions its not pitch black out there all by myself - thats just not right - looks too sterile. ED Team Chizh Posted September 8, 2006 ED Team Posted September 8, 2006 ... Any idea how to view diffrent LODs? For it is one way only. You can export LODs as separate models. TekaTeka Posted September 8, 2006 Posted September 8, 2006 It is a revolution !!!!!! Pilotasso Posted September 8, 2006 Author Posted September 8, 2006 ^^^^yeah how do we make a new one work from scratch? .
dodger42 Posted September 9, 2006 Posted September 9, 2006 Man whats with ED pouring out all the community tools? :) Would be great to see something similar for mission file creation (an API would be a dream come true). Pilotasso Posted September 9, 2006 Author Posted September 9, 2006 I think the initial euforia will later disapear and we will be hit by a simple fact: That none of the work so far is serious nor will it have any impact on the game and the only thing we could ever hope is to replace old models that we wont even notice the difference when inside the pit anyway. Realy big MODs are rare in the LOck on comunity and we risk never to take much advantage of these tools. Also theres an awkward resistence of this community suport MODer's or any of their projects. The flying saucer and the mirage jets wont have any concrete functionality and have no part in the game play aside from cute experiments to break the boredom. Without any pit making tool we realy wont advance much. I think I have hyped it a bit too much with this thread. Sorry guys. :( .

Without any pit making tool we realy wont advance much. I think I have hyped it a bit too much with this thread. Sorry guys. :( I think thats a rather pessimistic view. People now have a chance to directly contribute to and influence the game. Modding has always been about the gratification of adding a personal creation into a publicly admired forum. With these tools, people with an interest in spending time and effort in creating 3D models now have a much expanded breadth of potential. I don't know that its a revolution, but it is an evolution in user participation and involvement. I think you're right in that the euphoria will settle quite soon, but IMO the "real" modders will only begin to fully utilize these tools then, when we understand just what can and cannot be feasibly done. - EB [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Nothing is easy. dodger42 Posted September 9, 2006 Posted September 9, 2006 Hey at least ED provided some tools. Thats kind of a new thing and they deserve praise for it. What other tools could we use? I think part of the resistance to use mods is in part due to the lack of really good mods. The lack of really good mods is at least in part due to the lack of tools from ED. So first things first. . . . Lockon Advanced Realism with Touch-Buddy
