Or gazelle or wait? I like thebhuey the p51 and the mig21 best. Fc 3 ac as well. Hate the ka50. I play sim lvl. My comps.on the low end so till there sp mossioms and betta camps. Noore ww2 or.korean war birds for me unfortunately :/

My question is when will f5s campaogn come? Is it free? Im still enraged at myself i was gonna preorder ttoday i rlly thot itd take em.another week now im paying for it. Now i rlly like the f5 but its not an all time fav like an f4 phant.2 or mi24 ot the f14 will be but im very intrigued. Especially bc i likeits size and mission roles and irs era of a.c my questions to ppl wjo have it so far is it worth i yet? Wait? How are the training and how many scripted sp.missions do you get?

Campaign won't be free, it's being developed by another third party (Maple Flag). Don't know when it will arrive.

I haven't tried any of the training or quickstart missions yet. A quick look shows 9 training missions, so it seems pretty comprehensive (four air-to-air, two air-to-ground, one cold start/takeoff, one landing). Quickstart folder has 6 missions: air to air; cold start; free flight; ground attacck; intercept; takeoff. So, probably a bit lacking in the standalone missions at present.

If you don't like making missions yourself and the SP missions are important to you, it might be worth waiting to see what other people think of the campaign when it (eventually) arrives, and what sort of user-created missions are produced by the community. Also, Belsimtek might add additional canned missions further down the road.

Anyway, you've asked this before and still nobody will be able to tell you what to buy. Since you like the MiG-21 then you might enjoy flying its natural competitor. The F-5E systems are very simple and it's a very "hands-on" type of aircraft, like the -21.

I can only really suggest checking out videos of people playing both modules on YouTube and see if you find them appealing enough to want to buy either one now. If not, you could always wait it out until they eventually go on sale and pick one of them up cheaper.

Yeah im well below the poverty line buying em all isnt an option. If i could do that i wouldnt be asking and i own all fhe korea ww2 ac and the mirage

I would say buy the Tiger.

i have all modules and I like the Tiger mucu better.

If you come back and tell me you don't like the Tiger, ill put 20$ on you for the Gazelle ;)

Pretty tempting lol. I was watching some ralfi and other stuff and i really dig the pit and the size of the thing. God how i wish a campaign would be free thougg of course mastering the plane and i guess quick missions for a while i could deal with.

You won't be dissapointed with the F-5 that's for sure. Pretty easy to learn and all of the training missions to keep you occupied for awhile.

Honestly, both are very nice modules. But are offering so different flavours it is hard to recommend one over the other.

Thanks to F-5 vs MiG-21 servers I am back to flying multiplayer public servers as it is a fun match up.

Single player for me means various simple stuff I make on mission editor to test various scenarios. So I've never completed a campaign in DCS actually :). But if you like campaigns, Gazelle's campaign seem to be very good.

F-5 on the other hand is a very fun plane to fly and has surprisingly heavy air to ground ordnance available.

Wishlist: F-4E Block 53 +, MiG-27K, Su-17M3 or M4, AH-1F or W circa 80s or early 90s, J35 Draken, Kfir C7, Mirage III/V

So is that gazelle offer still on the table? :/

The f5 is cool but theres likee no missions. I know its early but not much frm community and as i stated i can rlly only get away with SO on my comp.

The training missions are not enough to keep me busy awhilee i play em till i knnow the controls theb fly combat missions until i gain prpficiency. Worked with the huey p51 mig 21 etc. But im very concerned at no campaign and very few missions for the f5. Theres modulea i def want down the road. I love the f5 but now idk if it was a wise choice maybe i shuda waited and gotten the gazelle at least theres missions...

F5 is my favorite module to-date, and I own almost all of them. I routinely play Blue Flag multiplayer now with the F5. It's a serious disadvantage, but more fun than I have had in a while.

As for missions, why not make some of your own? My desire to fly the F5 in a busy environment led me to figure out how to implement a lot of the complicated user-developed scripts (which are provided with excellent step by step setups).

Now I have a mission for capturing airfields that are protected with AAA and AI CAP MiG21s. It's a heck of a lot of fun having to dogfight my way in with a load of rockets, then smacking some Shilkas before I call in the troop helos. You can tailor make whatever you want with the ME. It's quite fun to learn.

As for flying, I have the Gazelle, and while it's a great module, I just can't get into it like I can the F5 and fly for hours on end.

I think it depends on your slant, do you prefer airplanes or choppers?

Me personally, I prefer choppers so obviously that is where I think you should go.

like the Huey , the gazelle maintains speed perfectly through a turn and the Gazelle does this with a tighter radius. She is an agile chopper and in a turn offers superb directional control via the pedals.... I mean really superb!

In combat the Gazelle is a true sniper.

Flight stabs (auto pilots) are very strong in flight and allow for a fast and easy to manoeuvres chopper at low altitudes, very stable but responsive when required... a typical European design thinking in the 70s & 80s (tornado was similar).

I got the F5 but never sat in the pit.... the gazelle just keeps pulling me back.

Well heres the prob - i like both. If my machine was better id be inline all the time and have all the ww2 and korea fighters. Even then cudnt resist the p51 and mastered it. Well sp mastered which i know is nothing compared to humans. I actuay prefer the fc3 (with the newer realer fms btw) a version of the a10 and a of the su25.i like the f15 su29 and mig 29. Not to big on the 33. I loved the huey mastered it. I really regret buying the ka5 BS2 module though ice endlessly tried i just for whatever reason suck with that helo and dont like it. The mg 21 i bought and love. So its really difficult. I mean im a aingle parent on foodstamps difficult. This is my one vice i allow myself when time.permits.

I should add i actually had the most fun in the huey not as a gunship but as a cas evac or hot lz insert extract type

But most of all i like hot cas evacs or trying to get downed pilots before the enemy.

The KA-50 is a strange machine.

Its power is in the contra rotating blades.... everything goes through those blades, there are 6 of them did you know.

If a man pulls the cyclic left, 6 blades pull a massive well armed attack chopper left and if required it will do it fast.

For lift the Ka-50 has six blades and two mighty engines... for lift she is mighty. If a man pulls the collective up the 6 blades respond fast and drag the choppers mass up hard and if required it will do it fast too.

if a man pushes the cyclic forward the 6 blades push the massive heavy airframe forward and if required it will do it very fast.

if A man pushes the left or right yaw pedals you will feel pure unadulterated engine torque applied to the airframe in either direction and somewhat equally.

Shocking is the kamov's pedal authority!

It's turn can be soo tight that its high velocity can disappear within a second, all due to those 6 magnificent blades.

Nothing in DCS is close to this weird and wonderful machine.... nothing.

But that's enough about my love for the Kamov, a machine that is obviously very close to my heart. In regard to your last comment, may I also suggest the MI-8.... have you considered that module.

So is that gazelle offer still on the table? :/

The f5 is cool but theres likee no missions.

Like the F-5, the Gazelle is a new release and it has few user missions (I only see Don Rudi's 3 in the user files).

So it sounds very much like you are thinking the 'grass is greener' on the Gazelle side, just because you chose the F-5.

The Gazelle starts in a better place than the F-5 as it comes with a SP campaign, however it is very much a CAS role, rather than CSAR, etc.

The Gazelle has a hard time filling the CAS role as, compared to the Ka-50, it is weak and each variant a 'one trick pony'. That's not to say it can't have fun missions i.e. 2x342M attack, 1x342L support and 1xUH-1H/Mi-8 CSAR support has formation flight, navigation, ATGM, etc. just that you'll need to build your own and the AI/scripting might not be up to the task.

The Gazelle's saving grace is that, if you're prepared to ignore it's IRL troop/lifting capacity, it's easy to substitute a Gazelle for Huey in the ME and fly the same missions i.e. as a sub Kiowa/Little Bird

Meanwhile, the F-5 has already defined 2x roles for it's self

  • F-5 vs MiG-21 Dogfighter
  • F-5 bomb truck

Dogfighting doesn't need explaining. The bomb truck could be fun, either high with ESCORT and SEAD or low level - avoiding detection/SAMs for 'one pass, haul ass' strikes.

If that doesn't appeal, the Mi-8 is the most similar to the UH-1H in mission profiles. With the English cockpit mod, it's not too difficult to learn (if the Huey start up is 1x page, the M-8 is 2x page) and has enough differences in instrumentation and handling to be worth buying, even if you have the Huey.

YMMV

I'm building a campaign for the F-5E. I'm basing it on the book 7 Days in May (no it's not going to word for word copy the book, but the theme is the same, and involves some twists and turns based around the plot of the book). I'm going to try to include voice acting and decent scripting and unique missions etc. :)

My Specs:

Win 10 Pro 64bit/ i7 6770K 4.5Ghz/32GB DDR4/ GTX 1070 SC/Samsung SSD

Warthog Stick/TWCS Throttle/TrackIR 5

Perhaps i am suffering from a grass is greener on the other side.

Ive considered the mi 8 but im not interested. I learnt the mig 21 in the russian pit om sure incould learn the hip in the same but its just an ugly helo to me and also it seems almost exactly the same as the huey just bigger and russian.

The ka50 i just cant seem to master so the person who commentes on their love for it.. i mean it has by far the most missions and campaigns and Id love to be able to fly it right. Ive endlessly done training watched youtube vida and when i fly i just cant fly the helo right ar all. I cant seem to effectively do anytjing with it whereas ironically the huey which is suppozed to be harder to fly i can fly under power lines with. So maybe you could give me tips on the ka50

Yes the gazelle doesnt have many more missions than the f5 but it has the campaign.

Oh well i really cant purchase the gazelle at this point anyways. I likethe f5 im just kinda disappointd like with the p51. Its a joy to fly and use but... i kinda feel like thats it? Because according to dcs customer support my.comp cant even run dcs ( it actually does and playably in sp. Mp is where my framerate gets too bad to play)

So its SP. with the mustang youre stuck basically with instant action or dogfighting 2 types of enemy planes. Even the high stakes campaign was meh only because some of the missions had kind of crazy expectations. Id kill for a fast comp so i could fly my 21 online and huey etc ( and most of all the f5 )

I recommend you get working in the mission editor and roll your own. I have been having tons of fun rocket-strafing convoys, dumping mk-82s on APCs, and providing my own CAP against enemy MiG-21s while doing so.

There is a huge user-developed script base that works wonders (MIST, GCICAP, CTLD). You can really make some interesting scenarios if you want. The difficulty is putting in enough randomness so you don't know every play in the book as it is happening.

Edit to add: Are you sure your game is in fullscreen mode? It is windowed-full by default. I find that in multiplayer, when my framerate is bad, hitting Right-Alt + Enter to put it in fullscreen jumps my FPS back up by about 20-30.

This bird is no slouch! Tons of fun in multiplayer.
