Jack McCoy Posted August 25, 2017 Posted August 25, 2017 I'm using JSGME and I also get "Stream Read Error" when trying to snapshot DCS 2.0.4 Perhaps this 'Nevada.surface5' file at 3.5 GB is too big for JSGME to snapshot.... EDIT**** OK, so I now think the above is correct. I just temporarily removed the 'Nevada.surface5' file and the snapshot completed without error. With the snapshot complete and the Nevada file returned perhaps I can still install and uninstall mods as long I don't mod this huge Nevada.surface5 file? Today I had the same problem involving the creation of the checksum for Nevada.surface5. I applied the same work-around with success. The new Normandy terrain, Normandy1944s.surface5, also needs to be moved outside the DCS World folder before taking the snapshot. i7-7700K@4.8GHz, 16Gb-3200, GTX-1080Ti-Strix-11Gb, Maximus IX Hero, Oculus Rift, Thrustmaster Warthog+F/A-18C, Logitech G940 Pedals.
Art-J Posted August 25, 2017 Posted August 25, 2017 Hi, Another way to save space when you have multiple DCS, is to centralize the custom liveries that you might have, using this method (not really a Mod, since it is stored on saved games): https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=174462 Bes regards. I've got even less space on a C drive, so stuffing anything in the "Saved Games" is a big no-no :D. No worries, though - as an offliner I'm not affected by all those recent, IC-related kerfuffles anyway and I store my mods on the other drive. Will keep in mind Skate's mods & skins tips for future hardware upgrades! i7 9700K @ stock speed, single GTX1070, 32 gigs of RAM, TH Warthog, MFG Crosswind, Win10.

sedenion Posted August 26, 2017 Author Posted August 26, 2017 Hey, Questions about the OvGME Would it be possible to get notifications if a Mod was updated or a different version? You would have such infos if you query repositories, but to have automatic notification, OvGME should ask repositories for example at startup... This is not impossible, but i think this is a big amount of work for something that can be acheived by the user by simply querying the repos :) Second question, is it possible to point to the user files? If the file exists, and is not deleted when you try to recreate the archive, it is probably that something goes wrong with this temp file, which result to an systematical error when trying to re-create the archive (with the same name), since it will try to write to the same temp file (same name), which is probably broken or even in read-only or anything "not good". Hello, thanks a lot for the quick answer ... I searched for this zip.build file but couldnt find it on any of the folders used on my Ovgme config; I have activated the display hidden items option. - If the problem occure again after deleting the .zip.build file, simply try to change the name of archive to create, maybe there is something wired in the name we don't see (Windows likes strange unicode bugs). I did, but the problem persists ... but dont worry too much, I will create the Mod Archive manually, using WinRAR ... what is strange is that only some Mods give me this problem, most are handled without a hitch. I downloaded this Tornado Mod from this location, if you want to try it: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/9q8d7kjuo4pkrz6/AADqUv3qUOPhJnYlLaoXsCy4a?dl=0 Best regards and thanks a lot for such a useful utility... and for free, its really a very nice gesture .. Magic Zach Posted September 27, 2017 Posted September 27, 2017 (edited) Twice now I have had a problem with OvGME. Since I downloaded DCS World OpenBeta, OvGME will not open. The first time, I fixed it by uninstalling and then reinstalling OvGME. Now, seemingly completely at random, it has done it again. Reeaaally irritating. Fix soon? Edit: Actually, don't know if it has anything to do with it, but the first time it happened was after I restarted my computer. Then I uninstalled and reinstalled, and it fixed it just fine. Then just earlier today I had restarted my computer again, and now it won't open again. Might have something to do with when my computer restarts?? The first time, I fixed it by uninstalling and then reinstalling OvGME. Now, seemingly completely at random, it has done it again. Reeaaally irritating. Fix soon? Unfortunately, to fix, i have to understand what goes wrong to know what to fix. You have to try to help me here. What you can do is maybe to uninstall manually using the "brute force" method, then reinstalling: 1. restores all mods (to empty the backup data) 2. Completely remove the 'C:\Program Files\OvGME' folder. 3. Completely remove the 'C:\Users\All Users\OvGME' folder 4. Empty your custom Backup folder (if you used a custom one) 5. Delete All OvGME shortcuts on desktop etc. 6. Reinstall OvGME. Edit: Actually, don't know if it has anything to do with it, but the first time it happened was after I restarted my computer. Then I uninstalled and reinstalled, and it fixed it just fine. Then just earlier today I had restarted my computer again, and now it won't open again. Magic Zach Posted October 4, 2017 Posted October 4, 2017 Happened again. I hadn't had a profile for DCS 1.5 OpenBeta, but had one for 1.5 stable and 2.0 OpenAlpha. For some reason my cockpit textures (literally the entire Textures folder is missing) for the P-51 in OB is gone. Don't know if that's related. I use a Mustang cockpit texture for every DCS version, and I don't know if somehow OvGME got somehow retained something after I uninstalled and then reinstalled it, and it messed something up. Anyways, going to repair (can't drag and drop from 1.5 stable, because my textures for that cockpit are permanently stuck in Skulleader's textures) to try to get both of my original textures back, but I don't know if my mods I had in will mess anything up. And I can't remove them, because I can't open OvGME. After I closed out of file explorer, I double clicked on my desktop shortcut for OvGME. Says it opens, no actual window appears. AGAIN! I alt tab, and the icon is just the minimize/fullscreen/close buttons that show on the upper right of windows. The direct exe in the OvGME folder won't work either. These problems only started after I downloaded 1.5 OpenBeta, and my only guess is that there is some sort of incompatibility with OVGME and 1.5 OpenBeta, and something is getting jacked. Honestly, this is becoming quite intolerable. I will come forward though, I didn't uninstall with the method you suggested there (I had uninstalled before I saw your post). I had used the uninstaller that came with OvGME, and did a full install (I assume, anyways, unless there are sneaky files somewhere). Will try your method of uninstalling this time. sedenion Posted October 4, 2017 Author Posted October 4, 2017 I alt tab, and the icon is just the minimize/fullscreen/close buttons that show on the upper right of windows. Stop here... did you said that OvGME is actually running but in minimized window ?
Magic Zach Posted October 4, 2017 Posted October 4, 2017 (edited) Running, yes. Minimized window, I'm not sure even that. When I press and hold ALT+TAB, OVGME's window is just the three buttons. Like, press and hold ALT+TAB right now, and what you see is where I'm referring. Anyways, the buttons you see on the top-right of a window is the ONLY thing that is displayed for OVGME when I press and hold ALT+TAB. Minimize/Fullscreen/Close buttons. When I try to open it up so I would typically be able to use it normally, the window simply does not appear. It's like a window was never designed. It's strange. And now that this has happened again without restarting my computer, I'm even more confused. For some unknow reason (but I can guess some), it probably stored its window size with 0 width and height (OvGME stores its window size on quit, to restore it after). Can you try to simply right click on the mini window toolbar, or icon in task bar, then select "resize"... then, resizes... For the "why" it did this... Is it possible that you exited OvGME when it is minimized in the task-bar ? For example, by quit windows while OvGME is running in minimized (so it is closed by the system) ? Anyway, i have to implements a test to prevent this behavior... If I am right, can you please add an issue describing the problem here ? : https://github.com/sedenion/ovgme/issues/new Edited October 4, 2017 by sedenion
