Hi all.

I'm in the market for a new Graphics card and tv/monitor. I was looking at 4k but not sure on the hardware requirements etc to get smooth 50+ fps.

My current setup is

Intel i7 4790k

Asus 97pro motherboard

16 Gigs RAM

Zotac geforce gtx 970

Im currently getting decent frames on this setup but would like higher resolutions etc.

Any help or advice will be greatly appreciated.

I'm using a 4K TV and have no performance issues. My set up is in my signature.

Sorry if it's a stupid question, but what resolution are you using and what frames do you achieve with that gpu?

3840 x 2160. I generally get between 40 and 70 FPS on the Black Sea map using Starway's terrain mod. I run everything on HIGH with exception of civilian traffic and heat blur which is on low. All the terrain sliders are full right.

Interesting. I'm guessing that's down to you're graphics card?

Yes, GTX 980 Ti is good, but not really ok for other titles on UHD, and your 970 should be able to survive a long time.

If you really want a UHD/4K monitor and play on it with decent frame rates, go for GTX 1080 or wait a bit until the 1080 Ti is out.

Is the 1080 better than the current Titan x?

My setup does what I want at the moment but I'm using a crappy Sony LCD TV so thinking of changing that and future proofing for a few years.

No, the current Titan X is the newest one, also on based on Pascal GPU technology, same series as the 1080. It is once again the fastest single GPU on the market, priced at 1200$. But if you mean the older once, from Maxwell, which is 1000$ gets beaten by the 1080 and some of the 980 Ti's

It must be the maxwell titan I was reading about as it said the 1080 was faster. Thanks for the input guys. Just need to decide on what 4k TV to get. Lol

Not sure about 4k TV performance. If you ask me, try better a 34/35 inch monitor with 3840x2560 resolution and 75/100Hz .. eventually G-Sync.

My setup for 4K in the signature. Everything on full runs smooth!

I have pretty much the system that jcbak has, I'm running one GTX 980Ti to a Samsung 4K 48" JS9000 TV and love it. I'm getting 60 FPS in DCS v1.5.4. I had two of these cards in my mid-tower Scout II case but they were loud and hot and the single card runs as well if not better.

If you want SLI get a full tower case and hydro cooling for the GPUs.

Phillips makes a 40" 4k monitor that is fairly good for a, IMHO, decent price. Model number in my sig.

If you ever decide to use a TV as a computer monitor, make sure you look at input lag, the time it takes for the picture to get from the videocard, to when the frame finally gets displayed on the screen...

monitors are designed to minimize this, TVs aren't... even if you say "I don't notice any input lag" try a 144hz G-sync monitor, then try a TV, THEN you can tell me you don't notice any lag...

seriously, g-sync/freesync and 144hz will change your life.

a big super high res, slow monitor, with lots of lag, ghosting, and image tearing isn't as good as a smaller high res screen with a high refresh rate, minimal latency, no image tearing, no blur, and minimal ghosting...

Agreed, and want to point out that this also applies to monitors, to a certain extent, as well.

Input lag is certainly the enemy BUT, it can depend on your application. If you are playing DCS, then low input lag is good. However, if you are playing competitive, online FPS, then it might be critical.

A flight simulator user, even in MP, can probably tolerate a bit more input lag than some other games.

My 4k monitor does not have the best input lag rating, but it is not an issue since it is only used on my sim rig. I play most other games on a smaller G-sync monitor, though I do have a another 1080 in that system as well.

Thanks for all the input guys. I'm finding it very useful. I've been looking on amazon and currently have in the shopping cart

EVGA geforce gtx 1080 founders edition

Acer X35 predator

Would these be do for what I'm after and achieve decent FPS?

Depends on resolution an graphical settings...

Full resolution at medium should make it, as long as you don't overclock the panel too much or keep default refresh rate
