    • Hell yes! Wishlists are pointless and counter-productive.

Today's rant: Is it just me, or are nearly all new threads on the forums (and not to mention the DCS FB group) pointless wishlists these days? "Belsimtek, please make acb", "Leatherneck, please make xyz" etc. Am I the only one who is really fed up with this? Is it right to "pollute" the forums with this, drowning out all other relevant and informative content?

****s me off so much.

Maybe just have one comprehensive wish list thread, and not allow any more. Maybe even one for all the third party devs at once.

Merge them in to one thread..

The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance.

I agree these don't belong in 3rd party forums. Discussion about what we want is fine, but "x dev make y" is getting annoying, especially when people seem to be confused as to which dev made what.

So no. I'd like to have them in a central place, merged together.

Setting up a katamari is a good way to make any discussion impossible. You might as well delete them. But we already have a place we could move these threads...

That said, does this thread really need to be in the Belsimtek forum?

edit: and does this really need to be a fake poll? I think we should ban polls in general from the forum, they're useless even when they are set up well.

edit edit: and it looks like the mods have already been moving this stuff there.

wishlists alone are useless but harmless, whats worse are the polls and rallies and the expectations generated from apparent consensus. not talking about the op poll but more in general.

I'm quite looking forward to Belsimtek's acb. When is that due?

Also, wishlists seem to ge flooded with unrealistic expectations on what can be made even optimistically. That, and or a useless collection of "I want THIS version of F-16".

We should just for once be happy that this sim even exists in the first place. A ton of interesting aircraft coming in the future.

Best get them while you can.

I wish I had £5 for every model request on every wishlist, AND another £5 for every new model that never see's the light at the end of the tunnel.

I could stop playing DCS and buy a real aeroplane ... !!!!!!

With that kind of money, you might be able to buy a small country, with an air force. ;)

With regard to the OP, banning them is over the top. However, there should be increasing penalties for anyone who creates more than one 'wish list' thread outside of the the correct location. Especially for members who have been around for a while but appear to be unable to comprehend that there is a certain amount of structure and organization to the forum.

Every time you see a thread marked 'Moved', someone had to manually relocate a misplaced thread.

EDIT: I also think that people that post polls without a balanced set of responses, like this one, should be penalized. If you only want responses from those that agree with you then the poll, and your post, are pretty much pointless.

At their best its just a post to try and raise awareness of something doable like a 'quality of life' feature request or anything relatively small scale. At their worst its a low effort post for a major feature, usually an aircraft, that will inevitably create a side tracked discussion. There isn't a whole lot of harm from either end of the spectrum.

When did "Katamari" enter the nomenclature for a forum post? I assume its basically the same as a mega thread or something similar, but I've never seen it used that way.

The right man in the wrong place makes all the difference in the world.

The word is based on a popular console game called Katamari Damacy

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Katamari_Damacy

In that game you have to roll around, accumulating more and more material, avoiding stuff that is bigger than you, until you are huge and can swallow everything.

I've first seen it as a word for merging several threads into one huge thread a few years ago. One huge thread swallows all the small ones, which is similar to the gameplay of that game.

Well, now we know.

I don't really mind wishlists, but I do mind 1) wishlist type posts/comments that clearly show no understanding of the subject matter (i.e. have no idea what they are really asking for). The same with criticism: if you want to change something, you need solid arguments.

2) speaking of criticism, I don't like it one bit when feature requests are stomped to the ground by "get good or get lost" attitude.

3) every single wishlist seems to snowball out of control with zero regards to the original title or post. This is especially the case with aircraft wishlists, not as much with features.

There should probably be something done on those fronts, if that's even possible...
