Later on this year or early next year i was looking to either get a projector for sims or a 3D visor.

The Z800 looks fairly good and it has come down in price alot, but the 800x600 res and other little niggles but me off.

Now i hear they are going to relise a 1280x1024 res unit, the Z1300.

what do people think in better? iam not looking for a desicion (i have proty much made up my mind on 3D visors if the res comes up + my TIR4) i was just wondering what people thougth would be the best upgrade.

p.s. i also herd that you can still use TB by looking down when using the Z800, that would be awesome

I have been testing the Z800 for training FACs.

The following is a personal opinion, and to get a valid view we would need to do group testing with double blind trials (ie one group is trained with the Z800 and one group without).

For the FAC on the ground, the Z800 works well, despite the 800x600 resolution. The advantage is that one has spatial awareness, i.e. look left and up, and you see left and up.

For the pilot, I am not so sure. For BVR, the low res makes reading instruments and HUD a bit difficult. For ACM it is effective, except that one loses the "centre position" after a lot of quick head movements, but this may be caused by the way it has been calibrated.

For CAS, the low res is a problem, and it will be interesting to test the new Z1300 to see if there is a significant improvement.

Both have their pros and cons (e.g. the projector is not limited to flight-sims and alike) but I guess decent 3D goggles with well implemented motion tracking are the ultimate thing.

The only thing left would be some tracked gloves so you can move the joystick and press the keys in the virtual 3d cockpit.

go for a projector.

Needs to be DLP with contrast ratio of 2000:1

I have had 2 projectors. 1 was 800x600 and my current one is 1024x768

I have a BenQ 6200 and would recommend it to anyone (assume they still make this model - I have had it just over 1 year)

The higher res makes a massive diff. also u set games at 1280 x 1024 and the projector scales it back to native 1024x768 but this gives you a performance free Antialiasing :)

I agree, I have a BenQ 6200 as well and its excellent. I run at 1024x768 though, so no free AA for me but as a mud-mover I need to see the "flashing black pixel" that is the Strela taking aim at me ;)

I haven't tried the headset but the reviews are so mixed I'm not prepared to try it yet.

Only one negative about my projector and thats the lack of contrast when flying night missions....which isn't a suprise but, as a mud mover, can hide some nasty surprises shooting at you! (I really need to get a projector screen, though I don't expect a gr8 improvement re: night missions).

Get a projector, you wont be disappointed ;)

I really like metaphysical questions! But in this case I would rather like to vote for a third option: using a large dataprojector to project on the wall

+ trackIR
