kontiuka Posted September 24, 2016 Posted September 24, 2016 I never really compared the two but after getting some real choppiness in 1.5, I decided to check out frame rates between 1.5 and 2.0. 1.5 scenario: - landing Su-27 at Kolkhi mid day - all shadows off - mirrors off - tree rendering at minimum - visibility high - no texture mod - lowest frame rate: about 30 2.0 scenario: - landing Su-27 at McCarren mid day - shadows high w flat terrain shadows - mirrors on - tree rendering at medium - visibility high - no texture mod - lowest frame rate: about 50 ------------------------------------------------- With all other settings the same, there is a real stark difference between 1.5 and 2.0. I'm happy 2.0 runs decently on my machine so I really hope that that optimization carries over to 2.5. System specs: CPU: i7-3820 @ 3.6GHz, GTX 980 4GB, 16 GB RAM, Windows 10
anlq Posted September 24, 2016 Posted September 24, 2016 DCS 2.0 has stutter, worse than low frame rate.
Oceandar Posted September 24, 2016 Posted September 24, 2016 (edited) I have stuttering in 1.5 in Open Conflict server. The server pretty much populated with many ground units. The stutter really bad as it pause about 1-2 seconds (didn't have it before in oldest update) Not fun at all and that with 16GB of RAM. But I have not update it with this newest update, we'll see. Nevertheless, its good news to hear about nice FPS in 2.0 Gam Zeh Ya'avor - King Salomon Edited September 24, 2016 by Oceandar Mastering others is strength. StandingCow Posted September 24, 2016 Posted September 24, 2016 Do those of you with stutter have DCS on an SSD drive? 5900X - 32 GB 3600 RAM - 1080TI My Twitch Channel ~Moo

StandingCow Posted September 24, 2016 Posted September 24, 2016 I don't have SSD yet but planned it in my buying list. Gam Zeh Ya'avor - King Salomon I am guessing that's the reason then.... not sure why it happens. 5900X - 32 GB 3600 RAM - 1080TI My Twitch Channel ~Moo
Oceandar Posted September 24, 2016 Posted September 24, 2016 I am guessing that's the reason then.... not sure why it happens. It could be, but really 16 Gb of RAM more than enough I think. I hope ED still optimize the performance in future update beside just fixing the bugs. Lets wait and see. I would rather spend the money buying ED modules even I don't really flying it than spending money for hardware that not really important. Gam Zeh Ya'avor - King Salomon Mastering others is strength. REDEYE_CVW-66 Posted September 24, 2016 Posted September 24, 2016 I had stutter- mostly on DCS 2, but also occasionally on 1.5. Upgraded ram to 16, no noticable effect. Upgraded to SSD- stutter gone from both games. General performance very good on both games, but generally smoother on 2.0. It runs like butter. I have an i5 3.5ghz, gtx970, 16 GB ram, and SSD

Gam Zeh Ya'avor - King Salomon Well, RAM isn't the issue here it is the lack of DCS being on an SSD. No idea why this is the case but I have seen it reported by a lot of people. 5900X - 32 GB 3600 RAM - 1080TI My Twitch Channel ~Moo
Art-J Posted September 24, 2016 Posted September 24, 2016 Apart from lots of map objects and textures being loaded into the memory at the beginning of the mission, many others are being loaded from the disk "on the fly", while playing (apart from trees, obviously), so no matter how much RAM one has, an SSD helps a lot. I can confirm that after moving DCS from HDD to SSD recently. 256 ones are quite affordable nowadays, so If DCS is the only game causing such issues (as it was in my case), I'd suggest making that investment for anyone who hasn't already. i7 9700K @ stock speed, single GTX1070, 32 gigs of RAM, TH Warthog, MFG Crosswind, Win10.
dburne Posted September 24, 2016 Posted September 24, 2016 DCS 2 performance is excellent on my system, very smooth and great fps. Way more consistent than 1.5. Mine is on SSD as well... Cibit Posted September 24, 2016 Posted September 24, 2016 I think the proof is overwhelming in the side of SSD's and I agree 100% Best thing I ever did was an SSD for O/S and SSD for DCSW 1 and 2 :) i5 8600k@5.2Ghz, Asus Prime A Z370, 32Gb DDR4 3000, GTX1080 SC, Oculus Rift CV1, Modded TM Warthog Modded X52 Collective, Jetseat, W10 Pro 64 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Adding JTAC Guide //My Vid's//229th AHB
Buzzles Posted September 24, 2016 Posted September 24, 2016 You guys are comparing apples to oranges. 1.5 is still using the T3 terrain engine, 2.0 is on T4, which was one of the things (along with EDGE) developed to allow higher object counts and bigger maps. I very much suspect that has more to do with it than anything else. If you're going to compare SSD to HDD, you should be doing it with one version. Fancy trying Star Citizen? Click here!
AJaromir Posted September 25, 2016 Posted September 25, 2016 Please, If you compare SSD to HDD, do not forget to write if you use MBR or GPT table. Because I have much better results with GPT table. THX
