will merging 2 versions save hdd space?

You simply can't copy / paste caucasus to 2.0, it requires editing the LUA

OK, so even by accident, this is not possible. I, vaguely, remember the thread about doing it but did not recall the details.

So with out modding something, one cannot get this to happen.

I haven't modded anything.

Apparently, you have.

There cannot be different outcome, with only one map located in DCS World 2 OpenAlpha\Mods\Terrains\ folder, ...

Screen shot of that folder, showing more than just the Nevada folder, in that location, would indicate that modifications have been made. As would the relevant lua file.

EDIT: Perhaps you did so in the past, and have forgotten. It does happen.

you can also trick the install,

just by adding an empty Caucasus folder in the mods/ terrain folder and placing a entry.lua edited with Caucasus details.

but it would serve no purpose . . .

That would still amount to modding something.

correct, I don't see how this has been done without modding the install in some way.

I can say that I have modded things and then forgotten that I did it. Especially when dealing with different versions and various mods. It is all too easy to lose track.

Did you install the 2.0 Alpha and point it to the existing DCS install?

Skates has confirmed that even that would not create a functional combination of both terrains.

But, it would explain the presence of another theatre.

As Stated, in order for Caucasus to Load and show up inside of 2.0, a few specific lines have to be removed from the LUA.

It wont show up on it's own by accident.

I'll say it again. I haven't modded anything and I know I haven't. It was a fresh install the day after the gazelle was released and has only had regular updates since then. If it matters to anyone, an unmodded 1.5 was already installed on the computer but they WEREN'T installed to the same folder.

I literally just loaded it up to prove that the Caucasus are in 2.0. If you don't believe me, open the mission editor, click on file and select new, you can pick the map on the left hand side of the window, place a player controlled aircraft and start the mission.

If that works in vanilla 2.0 alpha, it's new as of today's update.

Thanks

your autoupdate_log.txt show no information on caucasus ever being downloaded and installed.

if the caucasus entry.lua you have attached was in a folder, I have no idea how it has got there, it was not in any update pushed to the public 2.0.

The Entry LUA is from 1.5.3.51218 (03/14/2016), the LUA was Modified 2 days after (3/16/2016),

A few Weeks after the guide was posted on 2-19-2016 by another member.

This was before the Terrain Engine Restriction was added to the LUA and by the CRC Code that matches the LUA from that Version.

TERRAIN4 Restriction was added to the LUA w/ Version 1.5.4.55952

There's also no Indication of Caucasus Files being downloaded or installed in the update log.

The ONLY way these files would have appeared in a 2.0 Install /Mod/Terrain/ Folder is if you copy/pasted them Manually.

If they were installed and maintained w/ the 2.0 Installer/Updater it wouldnt be 6 months out of date.

You likely did it long ago, and forgot about it, and unless you manually deleted the entire 2.0 Folder before re-installing it prolly sat there, as the cleanup for 2.0 uninstall prolly would not delete files that it doesn't maintain.

Then I guess I've got egg on my face but I think I've figured it out.

I don't download directly onto my gaming PC, I use a laptop at work and then copy across. I have done a fresh install on my laptop recently, but because I can't access my programs folder over the network, I have to copy it to my (laptop) user folder and then onto my main computer. At some point it must have overwritten an existing copy (most likely when I copied it to the user folder on the laptop since the Caucasus are there too) or merged with files that weren't deleted as skate said.

In my memory it was pointed out ages ago in a thread that the map was natively accessible by opening a new map in the mission editor. I know I haven't knowingly modded it in because I don't actually know how to mod it in (I've always just assumed that it worked for everyone), but I have long in the past experimented with copying across the whole 1.5 folder to decrease download size when installing 2.0 and then running the update command followed by the repair command in the updater (I know I don't need to do that now since DCS automatically finds the existing files).

Stuff happens, and happens to all of us from time to time.

Hopefully, the egg was nicely poached. ;)

one of my older DCS 2.0 Modded installs still have 1.5.3 Caucasus in it.. I had forgot I copied it over to try some stuff and never deleted it.

So question to the mods or ED, once we do have the merge to 2.5, do ED still intend to have an open beta version as well as the release version (a.k.a. the way it was before NTTR open alpha came along)?

Speaking out of turn, of course, I would say yes. They seem to like the feedback available from the Open Beta line, which is far more comprehensive than they can get from the 'limited' ED Tester pool.

I could be wrong, but I suspect not.

IMHO, as usual. :)
