Agreed, opening the mission in the editor does feel "gamey" and unintended...almost as "gamey" and unintended as dual-boxing and joining the server with two accounts so people have GCI info while flying their fighter aircraft.

...are we not going to talk about that? (not directed at you, Phoenix)

Any chance of adding more slots in other bases? Kutaisi is the only base with A10's and it's quite the flight to either fronts. Plus being out of fuel with no one flying UH-1's to refuel it sucks.

+1 , I haven't been flying or helping with testing because the other model Gazelles aren't there and their slots

The difference in gamery between a f10 menue function or a magic map with all units or opening the mission is practically 0.

Get an A10, gazelle or ka50 on site, let him give you coordinates, done.

Short range defences for the airfields would be appreciated.

*unexpected flight behaviour* Oh shiii*** ! What ? Why ? What is happening ?

LOL!

Or the guys that hop in a slot at a FARP and kill stuff to make it respawn.

I would be amazed if in the real world pilots went into a mission in today's military without exact coordinates and aerial or drone footage of their targets. Doing this via the mission editor is much the same.

What's wrong with someone using two slots? If we had working data links or awacs (something today's military has too) we'd get the same picture. So what if someone has an extra PC laying around? You do realize about how useless the Gci slot is, right?

Ok, be amazed ... A skilled enemy will be doing their best to hide and they're actually not bad at it :)

Seriously just leave your pilots license at the door on your way out.

F5, Mig 21, Huey, Gazelle, KA50, and a million other aircraft dont have a data link. Even if by some miracle they did it would be nothing like what the F10 GCI maps looks like.

I feel like I'm losing brain cells having do describe how ridiculous your thinking is.

Oh and you can also see missiles in GCI. You might as well just make everything visible on the map if you think running 2 slots is ok.

We don't have data links or AWACS by design choice in this mission. It's specifically disabled to sculpt the gameplay to have that limited amount of information.

Spoofing the rules to have basically an AWACS suite in the cockpit of your Mirage doesn't seem to fall within the realm of good moral gameplay, in my opinion.

You CLEARLY need to spend more time in GCI. I'd recommend doing this on a 2nd PC while you are dogfighting. You will see how useless it is. It's one of the reasons why you don't see this rampant bad behavior across all the multiplayer servers. It just ain't that good!

You honestly get a better idea of what the enemy is up to by looking at what slots are occupied by them. That is something the real military doesn't have... maybe we should try to hide that feature?

And leave the negative attacks at the door. This was to have an honest conversation about how to improve, not how to personally attack another player.

This is an interesting point...

Would you see less m2ks if the data link of the su27 was enabled?

If someone has an opinion that your logic is absurd and they inform you of it and you think it's an attack. Then you should probably stop and evaluate if you're a bit overly sensitive. Your view on the topic is mind blowingly absurd to me. Sorry yo! (Disagreement != attack && Why I think it's redic != attack)

And you keep using "good" as a value of measurement. It's not about wether it's excellent or bleh or good. It's value is wether it produces an advantage regardless of its contribution. And having a CGI slot available in another session is just that.

And yes I wish that slots weren't visible FYI.

Its not a matter if my feelings were hurt... Its the matter that this thread is over how to improve BlueFlag, not how to express your personal feelings towards another.

Keep it on point.

Re-did PAK lines - Kutasi may have fallen off the bottom of the status message due to the number of bases. Moved a few bases into PAK 6 and it seems to show now.

Fuel - The Fuel crates had the wrong amount of fuel set for them, by a factor of 10 or more! Sorry! So refuel it again and you should be good to go.

The fuel crates & mechanic are still being worked on. Fuel will be automatically replenished at an Airbase by a linked fuel base. Supplies can then be cut by destroying this base or capturing it.

FYI - I cant spawn the SU27 out of Mozdok despite the PAK3 intel report indicating plenty of fuel, I continue to get the message' Mozdok airbase in Pak3 has no fuel left.

Yes, definitely. Are you implying that knowledge and exponentially more situational awareness is not significantly beneficial to the combat effort?

Lets just shut down gci. There, y'all happy. I personally could care less if someone uses two accounts for gci. It not like they are getting any info a gci wouldn't give them. If someone wants to open mission file for cordinates, I call it intel and pre fright planning.

I came back to blueflag the last couple of days and all I see is guys complaining when getting shot down. Its everyone elses fault but their own. I augered twice yesterday and over ran a runway once. I should of jumped on chat and blamed the number imbalance, leaveu, VR, no fuel at start, fc3 aircraft, lives, amraam, night or module balance for my deaths. Anything but my own actions.

Cant wait to get closer bases. So far, I like the changes and idea behind it.

I'm not the biggest fan of cgi, as most who don the role forget strikers exist along with what objectives have to be met in order to fulfill the victory condition. At the same time it seems to be the only incentive for people to communicate... For that reason alone the slot should be kept, regardless of "double boxing." I'm not sure how many people actually do cheat, by the way. I believe the claims to be a bit inflated, as ego is often injured when bested by another. I feel like the mirages radar sees more than cgi anyway, as I find myself always reporting contacts to the response of, "nothing on scope" from Magic. As for data-link, (and as a blue player) I say enable it, who cares. The A-10 has a similar function and we don't debate that. Besides if you need those bells and whistles to be effective, don't expect to win too many sorties. However, I would imagine such a change would encourage less comms traffic, which seems to be an issue already considering the recent influx of new comers and more clique-like behavior from squadrons (not all squadrons, but come game time, I would hope everyone is at least monitoring the general channel...) And that brings us full circle. Any change that would result is less communication and less teamwork (required) is likely not a great design choice. Cheers!

CGI is overrated and heavily bugged. Not much use tbh. If someone uses two accounts = ban. What a freakin' cheater !!!

Yeah a 6-9 hour limit sounds good.

Some nice points raised. To add a little more.

  • Units aren't visible on the map so someone would need CA in order to know where to fly supplies to if GCI isn't on.
  • Some nerd could place a bunch of defenses in terrible positions thus having them not persist forever would be a decent balance.

If you wanted to get stupid and make it complicated stingers could have a lower persistence time then something like the crated SAMs. 6hrs stinger, 9hrs SAM sites.

Different crate objects will have differing persistence times :)

Having trouble with capturing bases and sam sites.

Sam site north of Sukhumi was red. Blue closed (0%) it and blue mortar troops dropped next to towers, no capture.

Gudata base (red) was shacked, but only went down to 6%. Blue mortars dropped mid runway with a JTAC. JTAC started lazing a UAZ about 2.5 miles to the northwest, across two rivers.

Wondering if these bases have been spot checked yet for capture modes. Also, I recommend having a map of where target areas are - I spent the better part of an hour searching for the last unit that made the base 6%. I don't know if it as that UAZ a heck of a long way away or not, and I didn't see that UAZ until I got shot down by a respawning SAM at that Sukhumi SAM site we couldn't capture - go figure...

Not having strike and helo slots at nearer bases is making testing capture at these airfields much more arduous.

You cannot capture with mortar troops anymore, only infantry :)

You guys realize that you get a copy of the mission stored on your pc every time you launch the server? It's pretty easy to open it and build your own maps with coordinates for the Viggen (and probably even QFE since youd have weather variables too!

I've been too busy at work to play lately, so Ive been living these new updates through this thread. I can't wait to get a few hours and try out the new map!

You do but the spawns are randomised depending on the group type and the config greg has used on that group. Groups are moved up to 100 m in a circle around the starting position, either randomly or formation is kept so you can't rely on the map you get from downloading the mission.

The idea now is Teamwork - Drop a JTAC, it'll give you exact co-ordinates and it'll stay there between restarts if you place it well. :)

You get fairly accurate base positions from the PAK info and live map as well.

Any chance of adding more slots in other bases? Kutaisi is the only base with A10's and it's quite the flight to either fronts. Plus being out of fuel with no one flying UH-1's to refuel it sucks.

It just takes one UH1 to reopen the base for quite a while.... Fuel system is still being worked on as well.

Nobody said it wasn't useful. I love playing GCI on the weekends.

A few threw insults at those rare people that double connect. Lets move on.

GCI is incredibly useful, we agree!

Please don't double connect though - its not in the spirit of fair play and you're unfairly blocking a player slot someone else could use

Map Updates

Sorry due to a busy week for all of us we've not been able to update the map. I'm away from tonight so it may not be till Monday until the map can have more slots added though i will attempt to add some tonight.

Repair Times

Repair times have been doubled for each base (they have differing values) so once closed a base should stay closed longer.

Average repair time for a group is around 30-45 mins from the FIRST unit of a group being killed but again this is dependant on base type.

You can always force and instant repair (and refuel!) with a repair / refuel crate.

We may add some TF-51Ds to act as a stand in for a cargo plane so you can zip around with them for a quick fuel run. This also means anyone can do it :)

Is it intended that there are no FARPS anymore and helos just start sitting in the weed or is this just temporary? I hope it's not intended, because now I can't equip my Huey anymore with guns and rockets.
