This is the map as presented in the Lock On Flaming Cliffs game.

The resolution is 22757x10343pixels and has 673MB (be shure you have enough resources when atempting to open it)

It is made by printscreening the F10 view map at 1280X960 resolution at the first level of zoom that you can see the villages using the mouse wheel. Note that this level of zoom may vary from session to session a little.

Credits goes to Eagle Dynamics for building the game and the dynamic map in the first place and to Teka Teka for his directional Airfields Icons and the Border between Georgia and Rusia "touche" on SE of the map.

This map was made to be used by Lock On comunity at will. Feel free to use it or modify it as you like.

I plan to make another version of the map with sectorisation made by shading (not lines) but this will take some time... for numbering the sectors not for making the sectors as the brush is ready to go :).

Anyway I hope many of you will find it useful. I cannot pretend is is 100% accurate but, I tried when stiching the parts to have maximum 0.5-1 pixels error and I think I managed to do it. The error at 25 metters I am refering a little abobe is at scaling down the Crimean region to the "Kuban" zone size as they were made in to different sessions and the refference zoom level could not be meet again :). But I thought about it in advance and let parts on both sections from the other so I could put them head to head as good as posible later.

I made another thread about it so it will be more visible.

Also this map is pending "incorporation" to LockOnFiles.com

No no, big thank you to author of that map. But one thinf could be better, sector squares over sea is white over blue and there is small contrast. So better is edit it and change to darker colour over. Over land it is ok. Thats my opinion.

Salut!

Zaelu, I'm trying to download it, but the browser gets stuck or something... loads and loads and loads, endlessly, and finally times out.

Could you please RAR it and put it on maybe lockonfiles.com or somewhere else?

Multumesc! :)

I printed it from software named Microstation on HP Design jet plotter on A0 format. But you can print it from Corel photo paint or other SW.

Yes MIcrostation V8 doesnt matter on version V8, V7, SE ..... I use it for importing rasters and good print management. Nice to hear that others working with MS :) I creating aeronautical charts in MS :)

SVK_Fox I know that map. The lack of details and the overload on it due to the sectorisation method I tried to "resolve" with this version.

Ok, I see that server is out :( I'll try now to upload directly on Lock On Files. I should had done it in the first place  ... me dumb... again.

INterestingly I can't actually open the map at all ... not enough memory :D

Yes,the "old" big map has basically no details on it. Not even the border Russia-Georgia. Basically useless in flight, unless you want of course a nice wall painting (I respect the work of its authors, but I can't use that map, sorry). I'm looking forward to the new map and I hope that can be sliced in such a manner that I can print its sections on A4 and bind them together to make a nice kneeboard map.

The link works again now on the old server. I am uploading to Megaupload now, when I finish I'll post that link too and add it to mirrors on 'lockonfiles.com'.

Unfortunaly my upload speed is just 27-28KB/s .

After that I will uploadi it to http://www.virtual-jabog32.de/ also.

Zayets, I told you I will slice it :)

As for the "not enough memory" message, I have 2GB of ram and the map eats 700MB+ when opened. I have no big problem to open it but people with 1GB or less cout have some problems. Anyway... this is the full flavor "supersize" version, after I finish the sectorisation and the sliceing I will upload it again as a different version... more user friendly ;) .

Thanx MrWolf-Loskins for mirroring  .

Now I'm trying to decide the sectorisation.

This is a small part of the map with some sectors named.

testik2.th.jpg

The preview is a JPG 90% quality and has 600DPI. This will corespond to the whole map at 95 centimeters wide and about 70cm tall. At this size the map is quite ok for navigation but, you cannot pinpoint some ground attack targets :noexpression: .

If you modify manualy the DPI to 300 you get twice the size and beter view on each sectors but, at this size you are forced to have a folding map.

My regret is that at 300 and 600 DPIs (which I suppose will be the most used settings for printing) the roads are not too visible due to the fact the lines are too thin :( . A solution to this issue will be... to manualy thicken the roads. This approach will take a lot of time.

Anyway... the sectors are 25KM (unfortunaly I cannot say is 25 000metters due to inherent inaccuracy of the Lock On measuring tool that has just 100m precision) tell me if it is OK. Should I make them at 50KMs? I know for fighters 50KMs would be better but Im thinking at ground ponders too :) . A desadvantage of 25KM sector is that on horizontal we would have 33 so the letters of alphabet are not enough so double lettering has to be used like in the example.

Some ideeas are welcome :)

After I finish the sectorisation I will slice the map.

I decided to go for 50KM sectors. Single lettering and... ok for ground action still... I guess.

this is a 10% of pixelage preview (JPEG 95%)

I am thinking to retouche the roads this weekend :D so the sliceing will be a little late...

What do you think? :noexpression:

Lookin' good :)

Would you be able to offer a couple qualities ... right now you're going for 50x50km sectors, but it would be great if you could also offer 100x100 or 150x150 or even 200x200 ... hm, then again, perhaps this part is best handled using red dog's maps?
