GazAce Posted April 5, 2017 Posted April 5, 2017 Apologies to all for my last post, that was shear frustration talking. I do everything I can by the book and more to make my MAVs work correctly. I climb to around 8000 and come back in with plenty of time for a SPI Target that is slaved to receive a good lock. TGP no dramas there, get a nice lock but then when I switch to my MAV targeting pod, it locks and I'm getting closer and closer but the cross hairs don't flash. It's so frustrating, especially when the window of opportunity is very slim and by then SAMs have gone crazy and I'm ducking and diving. I'm actually having greater success with my CBUs in a CCRP. The Maverick missile is easier to use when I manually lock it onto a target but even then most times it seems to miss the target. I'm very disparaged and quite bewildered with this weapon and it's a shame cause they are an awesome munition and my favourite, although the CBU is amazing. I've been checking out the "On The Range" uTube clips and that guy is really really cool and so helpful but yet to find one on MAVs he's done. Maybe I'm doing something wrong I'm not aware of, I don't know. Again, sorry for venting my angst. Oh well, still fun and slowly progressing through the Campaign. :) GazAce's "Skynet Rig" :: :: 13th Gen Intel Core i9-13900K :: Asus ROG Strix Z790-A Mobo :: Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090 MSI Gaming Slim GPU 24GB :: NZXT Kraken Elite 280 RGB AIO White Cooler :: G Skill Trident Z Royals DDR4 4x16GB = 64GB :: WD Black SN 850X NVMe SSD 2TB M.2 (C Drive) :: Samsung 860 Pro 2TB SATA (D Drive) & a couple of other Drives adding another 1.5 TB :: Corsair Crystal 680X White Case :: Asus XG349C 34" Curve G-Sync 180Hz 3440x1440 Monitor :: MSI 1000 Watt PSU PCIE5 :: Virpil Constellation Alpha-R Stick with VPC WarBRD Base :: Virpil MongoosT-50CM3 Throttle :: 3 x CubeSim ext mini screens with TM Cougar MFD Bezels :: Asus ROG Pugio 503 Gaming Mouse & Razer BlackWidow mech kb :: TrackIR 5 Pro & Cap Clip :: Win 11 64 Bit
lemoen Posted April 5, 2017 Posted April 5, 2017 The trick is to create a SPI, then slave the maverick to the SPI. Sounds like you have that part. Then, making the maverick the Sensor of interest (SOI) you can use the TMS up short command to make the maverick lock onto the target. However, to make this work you need to be in CCIP mode and the maverick must be the active weapon on your HUD. Sorry for all the acronymns, the A10 is actually pretty unfriendly, workload wise and it is easy to miss a step somewhere.
GazAce Posted April 5, 2017 Author Posted April 5, 2017 Thanks kindly and no worries with the Acronyms, all good. Yes I'm making the MAV SOI and I always TMS up short command. Maybe I'm missing the CCIP? but I think that's the default setting anyway? I'll dble check. As I mentioned in my prev post I've had some success with the manual slewing of the MAV onto target but this only seems to work when a certain setting of my Boat Switch is selected (aft, centre or fwd, I can't recall now) . Anyway, thank you for that suggestion, I appreciate it. GazAce Posted April 5, 2017 Author Posted April 5, 2017 Wow! Thanks man, appreciate that. Hey just a few mins ago had some success in # 9 of Stone Shield. I got MAV to work in force correlate mode, with Boat Switch in the middle I think I was forgetting to short AFT TMS before manually slewing onto target to ground stabilise. I was going short FWD TMS then trying to slew onto target. Anyway it worked, although I got a SAM up my clacker but I didn't care as long I find a way that works as that Wagon Wheel thing just seems to fly all over the place no matter how many times I China Hat FWD long. Razor18 Posted April 5, 2017 Posted April 5, 2017 Do you consider the "keyhole" shape FOV window for the crosshair pointer to be in for a succesful lock?

Yes thanks, I realise that , the problem is usually the Wagon Wheel locking on the SPI, so now I'm more often than not using the FC Track but that's also not given either. Magnanimous Posted April 5, 2017 Posted April 5, 2017 I've found that sometimes you have to go back to the tgp and move the target box just a hair- then return to the mav to get a lock (tms up short). It can be quite frustrating if you're under duress from SAM. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Hey thanks Zilch and I'm very much liking your shameless self promotion cause it's going to help me blow the #!%~ outta stuff! Oh and of course complete my Campaign. Between this, Bunyap tutorials and other kind souls out there I've got a good shot. Watching it now actually, very cool. Just a question, you mentioned in the beginning re:waypoints, using the MK key on the UFC to designate waypoints, does TMS right short acheive the same result or is it better to use your UFC and also was wondering how to designate a MP as a WP with TDC when it's so far ahead of you? Maybe I should shut up and keep watching :) GazAce's "Skynet Rig" :: :: 13th Gen Intel Core i9-13900K :: Asus ROG Strix Z790-A Mobo :: Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090 MSI Gaming Slim GPU 24GB :: NZXT Kraken Elite 280 RGB AIO White Cooler :: G Skill Trident Z Royals DDR4 4x16GB = 64GB :: WD Black SN 850X NVMe SSD 2TB M.2 (C Drive) :: Samsung 860 Pro 2TB SATA (D Drive) & a couple of other Drives adding another 1.5 TB :: Corsair Crystal 680X White Case :: Asus XG349C 34" Curve G-Sync 180Hz 3440x1440 Monitor :: MSI 1000 Watt PSU PCIE5 :: Virpil Constellation Alpha-R Stick with VPC WarBRD Base :: Virpil MongoosT-50CM3 Throttle :: 3 x CubeSim ext mini screens with TM Cougar MFD Bezels :: Asus ROG Pugio 503 Gaming Mouse & Razer BlackWidow mech kb :: TrackIR 5 Pro & Cap Clip :: Win 11 64 Bit
Zilch Posted April 6, 2017 Posted April 6, 2017 For your first question...TMS right and your UFC/CDU MK button do different things. As I did with that Maverick rapid fire, pressing TMS right short creates a Markpoint *where your SOI is pointing.* The MK button on the UFC and CDU do the same thing, which is to create a Markpoint *where your aircraft currently is." They call this an overhead markpoint. I'm not quite sure what your asking in the second question...I'll take a swing. Unless someone else knows a cool CDU trick, I am not aware of a way to copy a markpoint to a waypoint directly. What you can do though is slave your TGP or TAD green cross to a Markpoint and get the Lat/Long or MGRS coordinate that displays on your MFD, write that down, and create a new waypoint on it using the CDU. If you want to learn how, see more shameless self promotion here at the 11:47. 1 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Zilch79's YouTube Channel:

Pocket Sized Posted April 6, 2017 Posted April 6, 2017 Just throwing this out there: You mentioned using force correlate, which only works on the non-D mavericks. Beware that these don't work in low light conditions due to the nature of their seeker. Even if you can see the target outline it might not lock because the contrast is too low. DCS modules are built up to a spec, not down to a schedule. In order to utilize a system to your advantage, you must know how it works.
feefifofum Posted April 7, 2017 Posted April 7, 2017 Haven't seen it mentioned so far so I'll chime in: With your maverick as SOI, press china hat fwd short for a narrower field of view (which translates into more zoom on the display.) This will make it considerably easier to lock targets at distance. Sounds like you've got the rest under control. 1. Find target with TGP 2. With TGP as SOI, press TMS up long to make the TGP's location your SPI 3. With your HUD as SOI, select "maverick" by cylcing the master mode to CCIP (M key) and then using DMS up/down to select weapons...OR select the maverick directly through the DSMS by clicking on the corresponding pylon 4. With mavericks warmed up, press china hat fwd long to slave all sensors (including your mavericks) to your SPI 5. With your maverick as SOI, press china hat fwd short to zoom in 6. With your mavierck as SOI, press TMS up short to lock your target at ~7 miles, give or take depending on environmental conditions 7. Maneuver so the flashing cross is in the center of the screen and press the pickle to fire. THE GEORGIAN WAR - OFFICIAL F-15C DLC

I'm in the midst of #10 Stone Shield and slowly getting closer to accomplishing. It's a little beauty actually, you work with Spec Ops and first take out a sniper's nest in a building then CAS for the team to escape. I've discovered that changing the load out to increase my MAVs ( cause you only get two which is crazy ) and then using them by manually slewing onto the moving targets after re-centering the bore sight, it takes a little practice as you have to keep your AC pretty stable and all within min time before you get shot at but I think I'm getting the hang of it and it's starting to pay off. I just have to be careful now of which MAVs I can use for this. Although nothing beats locking on from distance to fire and forget. They are a finicky weapon and one that needs attention to detail and focus ( for me anyway). I just want to find a method that is relaxed and not so rushed and of course gives me a high success rate. The "keyhole" is an area off-bore where the Mav's seeker can effectively track a locked target. Seen in this picture, the "Pointing Cross" has to be within that dashed keyhole in order to hit the target. Also keep in mind, the -D Mav mostly locks at 7nm or closer if not in FC. In FC, the range depends on the TOF wich is limited to 60 seconds. After that the missile will destroy itself.
