Using GBU-12 with F-5 -- setting the code

For the life of me, I can't find any instructions on using the GBU-12 with the F5. Specifically how do I set the code for the bomb and make sure its armed???

 

Yes I read the manual and GBU-12 is listed as "WIP" - there is no text on it.

You cant set the code on the GBU-12 from the F-5. Pretty much carry and drop. It's defaulted to the NATO "1688" which the JTAC uses. And you'll need a JTAC or buddy lasing aircraft.

You can change the code via the kneeboard. Only requirement is that nothing is powered

My pals and I have had success with buddy lasing to wipe out arty and other heavily armored or hard to take down targets, like bridges, using the F-5 as a delivery vehicle and the Warthog as a guidance vehicle. Usually the Hawg is around 20K with me starting 10 miles out from the target at 30k ft. I run in on a shallow dive and release when I hit 25K as I pull up. the bomb's momentum carries it the rest of the way and I am generally outside of threat envelopes provided there wasn't long range SAM to begin with. We 've also had success dropping multiple bombs, like onto bridges and such, using this technique.

You can also set laser code in mission editor before starting mission.

Bosun, also that last sentence, I meant to imply that for bridges we were dropping two bombs at once and both tracked in to the bridge we were trying to knock down.

F5E Laser Guided Bomb Setup

1. Load GB-12 onto pylons 2 & 6

2. Bring up Kneeboard (Aircraft OFF)

   1. Go to Weapons Notes

   2. Set Laser Code

3. Master Arm to ON

4. External Stores to BOMB

5. Bomb Arm (fuse) set to TAIL

6. Fly toward target area at 15,000 Ft

7. Pylon Select Switch to ON

8. At 400 Knts, Dive 10-20 degrees

9. Position Target at base of HUD

10. Weapons Release at 10,000 Ft

Very important, Radar Dogfight mode must be set to Search (default). Otherwise it doesnt drop
