Will we have the ability to make the F-18 totally clean? No pylons. Also, is it possible for ED to have the Blue Angels smoke plumbing? Like how you can change the exhaust on the uh-1. I was hoping that a Blue Angel bird would come with the release. It might be cool to have a mod that puts a stop watch in the cockpit and the smoke plumbing on the back. Paint jobs for 1-6.

Thanks

I hope this is pursued, if it hasn't been already. I'd love to be able to fully manipulate pylons as well, put on & take off empty pylons at user's pleasure or go clean.

I like this idea. perhaps it is a choice of the mission creator/editor. have a special tab where you can check, or uncheck boxes for both pylons and smoke. The other alternative would be something like the f5 where the pylons are added or removed based on whether or not something is being placed on those pylons.

Pylon removal is a possible feature, but I wouldnt expect the Smoke System Oil Line or Cockpit Stop watches.

I've never given requests like this much thought, until I started 'free-flying' in the L-39. +1 for me on the removable pylons. I've seen this asked/requested so often in chit-chat that I really hope the devs put it on a to-do list for after the pre-release or post-release.

I would think one or both of these things would be super easy to add. Like I mentioned it could be just a box to check in the editor. Like the Huey's exhaust system. I won't cry if we don't get it but would be totally cool if they could do this.

because IRL, Smoke Systems attach to the exhaust do not work when Reheat is engaged.

it would have to be added to the base model and not as a store, to move with the exhaust features.

it's specialized systems that only exist in a dozen aircraft (6 show birds plus the backups).

Removing Pylons can be done easy enough as a mod TBH, but will fail integrity check.

(*If the model supports it w/ visibility animations)

Adding a Custom Smoke System can be done as well as a mod, jut the visible oil line on the exhaust needs to be done at the model level.

I'd rather have removable pylons a year down the line of release, rather then turning DCS in a comparable Arma 3 where fun (but not essential) features like this are pushed on mods.

That said, it really isn't a big feature anyone could even want on initial release.. Everyone here wants to just fly the bug and worry about these things later on

I don't see why we wouldn't have a clean F/A-18C. Its part of the hornet and is realistic.

Well, as an example, we don't have a clean A-10, which would be equally realistic.

Except it wouldn't. Pylons are a standard fit for the A-10C and are only removed for air displays and the like. For the Hornet, and most other tactical aircraft, we only fit pylons when they are actually needed.

F/A-18's Pylons are only removed for Airshow Displays and maintenance, they dont remove empty pylons from Operation Flights.

Um.... that might be a U.S. Navy thing, but I have seen many pictures of hornets with fuel bags and missiles with some other missing pylons.

^ I've Seen them flying w/ 3 Bags and outter pylons removed, however it's not a combat load out. Likely a PhotoOp/PR Flight.

As for Legacy/Supers with only Inboard Pylons + 2x AIM-120s, w/ outboard pylons removed, this is the general configuration for International Tactical Demonstrations.

the USN Likes to remove all of them for Airshows, Boeing on the other hand has the demo teams do shows like RIAT w/ Mock Stores loaded.

But what about Swiss Air Force? Marines? Australia? I'm sure I've seen pics of Swiss hornets doing patrols with removed pylons.

I mean, if you're going to do an air patrol carrying only a few missiles why carry the extra pylons?

I cant speak for Export Country's Operations.

USN does a lot of stuff differently than land based operators...

Blame it on salt water, that seems to be the main excuse.. (for differing procedures in general).

But as stated, the module is based on a USN Lot 20 F/A-18C, so the mechanics of how pylons are mounted will likely mimic the USN Operations.

Swiss Air Force mostly fly without Pylons, they mount them for special ops in the country but the rest of the year they fly without.

Again, DCS: F/A-18C is based on a USN Hornet, so pylon functions will prolly mimic the USN Hornet's.

Are you just going to argue ab absurdum?

Can pylons be removed on real aircraft? Yes. Then we are asking for them to be removable.

ED is already including paints from other countries even though "Hornet is based on USN holy realism manual bible 3000 and surely no USN aircraft ever flown with Swiss cross!", I'm sure they can add one simple animation argument to remove the pylons.
