Hi guys,

I didnt fly over Nevada for a while. Now I realized a strange flickering at the edge between two levels of details.

Turn down your volume before watching. The video is a bit loud.

I have this bug only on Nevada map.

I removed my two control mods for better toggle switch support. I tried repairing and I tried some older graphic drivers. Nothing helped. Any ideas?

If it's not a DCS Issue, it definitely looks like the beginning of a hardware issue.

Same problem here since 2.1.1. Not hardware related, so definitively a glitch.

Looks always the same for me - new shadows drawn, flickers, new shadows drawn, flickers, all the time.

Thank you, buddies. Skatezilla just scared the hell out of me. I am really not interested in buying a new graphic card. But somehow strange that nobody reported this before.

Now I tried a few different settings ingame and in Nvidia control panel - AF, resolution and so on. And also I updated my gpu bios. No changes.

Interesting. Post this mission so I can fly it as well and see how things look on my GTX1070. I guess we should compare gfx settings as well.

Its the instant action freeflight mission for the mig21. No special mission. And it wouldnt make any difference anyway. I have this issue in all missions with all planes which I tried yet.

Same here.

I can live with this line box around but the shadow flickering is very annoying.

Something to try, goto

C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World 2 OpenAlpha\Config\terrain

and open terrainoptions41.lua in Notepad++

search for line 124 and change to the following:

textureSize = 8192,

updateStep = 256,

Trying ASAP. Thanks for the tip Mustang.

Any drawback for this?

Possibly, the shadows look very dark over a long distance and can look at bit out of place.

edit: I have actually gone the other way now and disabled this shadow sharpening routine

textureSize = 0,

updateStep = 32,

the shadows look too strong and fake on the 8192 setting and the clipping is too ugly at the default 1024 value, i know ED will solve this in time but for now i'm going to stick with the above.

You are right. Too dark.

0 and 32 work fine. Thank you, Mustang.

I fear a fix by ED could take very long because it seems to be a very minority issue and ED has to focus on problems which affect all users and not only some.

Check F-18 videos in Nevada.

Check F-19 videos in Nevada.

There I saw the box-shaped edge between the level of details but not the flickering which is much more annoying.

Wow, Mustang!, I think you found something very interesting here!!:)...only increasing the shadow map res already makes NTTR to look incredibly better but I decided also to try increasing the rest of the values as they seem to only affect clipmaps to give it a try and got AMAZED!!!:shocking:...for the first time EVER with the NTTR map, distant textures looked detailed and the shadow map higher res makes the terrain look sooooooooo much more detailed and "rocky", just like it should be...also, I think that shadows look perfectly correct (not too dark) if you increase also "normal map res", at least that was my impression after some testing although at dusk they are a bit too blue. Take a look:

1501704616-dcs-2017-08-02-21-16-52-14.jpg

The best thing is...I didnt lost any noticeable performance by doing this (and of course the rendering line is gone)!!!!!:cheer3nc: ...the only downside I noticed is the amount of RAM/Vram needed which of course increases quite a lot (and loading times of course) but even running from an HDD I only noticed some stutter here and there at 8K textures...at 4k textures and 8K for shadow map, normal map and light map it runs perfect!!!!

Guys, you have to test this...and Mustang maybe you could make a mod using all this!!, it totally changes NTTR map...finally you can make zoom and get some detail in the distance which is incredible :)

couldnt resist to make some screens for the screeshots thread :D

thanks guys!!and give this another chance :thumbup:

Even better, here you have the whole file...this time, using 8k for shadows and normal and 4k for the rest...testing now and looks amazing...:thumbup:...get ready for the ram impact :D

EDIT: DONT USE THIS FILE IN 2.2 VERSION IF YOU DON?T WANT TO HAVE ISSUES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
