Is there any movement towards allowing us to place objects into missions as a 3D object into a 3D world?

This is a wish!!

To be honest, another zoom level and seeing an accurate top-down silhouette of the object at that zoom level would be a godsend. Though with the current 2D editor and a 3D editing mode for precise placement, something like Arma 3's EDEN editor, that would be revolutionary.

Also I don't want the 3D Editor to replace the current 2D editor. I'd like a similar set-up to Arma 3's EDEN which while a 3D editor, also retains Arma's previous 2D editor that you can seamlessly switch back and forth to as you please, because adding aircraft groups, adding waypoints etc is all perfect in the 2D view, in fact the 2D view makes adding waypoints easier than with a 3D one IMO, but for positioning ground units and static objects precisely without spontaneously combusting a full 3D editor is essential.

Like I've said I've got hundreds of complex missions planned with detailed fully done FOBs but I simply don't want to because forging these missions would take the rest of my life before I got to play it, and even then it still wouldn't be right, whereas with a 3D editor the same elements would take mere minutes to make, and mission creation could be done within an hour absolute start to absolute finish.

I am sure that last year I saw mod for this. There was even a video on YT how it works.. try looking up in user files.. if I find it I'll put link here..

A 3D editor would be an absolute godsend and allow for some really great stuff.

Here's an example of what it would look like.

ARMA 3's EDEN, yes that would be heaven for DCS mission editors and quite frankly that is a giant understatement.

+1, interested in the link too, AFAIR it is a nodejs running server that updates the objects that you put int the ME directly into an in-game instance... VERY useful.

AFAIK Witchraft stopped working several releases ago, it wasn't so much of a mod, it was technical and would put most DCS players off.

You can eyeball most units with experience and the ruler. If you want to build something complex like a FOB you can hear horror stories of hours and days of work. There's tricks like using trigger range circles for FARPS etc.

It's an investment of time, always when you sit inside the ME.

I generally find it easiest to put a Huey in the scenario and fly that to a suitable position, then note its location and use that. When you want to place a radar/missile battery, you can also look around and confirm that there is a good field of view/ fire in the relevant threat direction.

I also find that most hill tops in DCS are razor-edges, and actually finding a few square metres for a stable placement can be trying.

You are right. But it remains heavily painful. Many of us spent tons of hours placing objects in the editor then testing.... as a productive mission maker, from the ages of Flanker 2, I lost a full part of my life in this ME then testing IA with accelerated time :D

My preferred hobby remains positioning trains in station with dozens of coaches to be aligned to the rails and keeping the right distance in-between :wallbash:

There are all kinds of tricks that each of us have come up with to accomplish some of the simplest tasks, like placing a road outpost so that it properly straddles the road. The point being, it shouldn't be necessary and wouldn't be if ED fulfills their commitment to providing this as they said they were going to with 2.0. I realize that they are busy and have a very full plate. I just want to keep this in front of them so they don't forget how very important it is to those of us that enjoy building missions.

It was a feature of the first editions of the game, a godsend when creating any kind of scenario, but dropped as the game was taken forward. From what I remember the newer versions could not do it because there was 2 levels in creating a mission with 2 different programmes involved, I forget the exact explanation they gave at the time. It was a long time ago, pre Flaming Cliffs I think.

One of the best features of the game at one time, that and being able to see your model skin and loadouts before you added it to the ME, that at least is back, albeit smaller.

So you just have to take a long time creating anything for now, trail and error, and each plane reacts differently to each and every object you place, tree lines are a nightmare to get right ... but I love doing it and the end results can be really good, much better than the game map.

Im In, after building missions in IL-2 (best editor yet, excep for the "logic triggers") I definately vouch for 3d positioning in ME. you can build "life" into a mission by placing a few objects with precision...

As a feature request I would like an option to press system time into the open mission editor instead of having to do it manually every time.

A Generic 3D editor (unlike any other software in any way shape form or fashion) would be great

Guys be careful about comparing DCS to other software .......

it can get you warning points
