Cake Posted July 9, 2020 Posted July 9, 2020 Yeah, and Card Factory, PC World, Staples etc... I don't think their names are to be taken absolutely literally... Exactly, but for those who want to take DCS literally.... The very idea that civilian airplanes shouldn’t be represented whatsoever is silly. It’s akin to saying there shouldn’t be civilian structures or natural trees in DCS. Every aircraft that exists in the world is in a sense part of the simulation, if you want to be realistic. Same goes for civilian white Toyota pickup trucks. There is no good reason someone shouldn’t be able to drive one, well, except maybe Toyota not granting the license. I’ve personally watched from the air F-15s intercept a civilian aircraft penetrating a TFR. Tragically, civilian aircraft were used as weapons on 9/11. During WWII, civilians flew recon missions in civilian aircraft against German U boats: https://www.maxwell.af.mil/News/Features/Display/Article/1024853/civil-air-patrol-a-story-of-unique-service-and-selfless-sacrifice/ The argument that civilian aircraft have no place in a combat simulation of the world should at best be characterized as UNREALISTIC. 6700K@4.6 48Gb - 1080Ti Hybrid - Warthog - RIFT
SharpeXB Posted July 9, 2020 Posted July 9, 2020 The very idea that civilian airplanes shouldn’t be represented whatsoever is silly. DCS cannot compete in the realm of civilian flight simulation. Nobody can now, that genre is set this year to be dominated by a single product. I’m trying not to compare games but this whole thread topic basically is. DCS should remain distinct from that market segment because competing in it will prove impossible. Again this topic is three years out of date... i9-14900KS | ASUS ROG MAXIMUS Z790 HERO | 64GB DDR5 5600MHz | iCUE H150i Liquid CPU Cooler | ASUS TUF GeForce RTX 4090 OC | Windows 11 Home | 2TB Samsung 980 PRO NVMe | Corsair RM1000x | LG 48GQ900-B 4K OLED Monitor | CH Fighterstick | Ch Pro Throttle | CH Pro Pedals | TrackIR 5
Tippis Posted July 9, 2020 Posted July 9, 2020 DCS cannot compete in the realm of civilian flight simulation. Sure it can. It's just a matter of attaching the right studio. And even if it by some fantastic miracle suddenly couldn't, so what? Such aircraft have a very clear space in the environment DCS is centred on, and unless and until there is some kind of universal cross-game integration API, the only way to fit them into the pre-existing ecosystem is to make DCS modules for those aircraft. It doesn't need to “compete” to have plenty of room for such additions. ❧ ❧ Inside you are two wolves. One cannot land; the other shoots friendlies. You are a Goon. ❧ ❧
Mars Exulte Posted July 9, 2020 Posted July 9, 2020 Non-combat but still military? Yes. C-130, CH-53, E-3, KC-135, etc, all very viable options C-130 would be awesome to see, imo Де вороги, знайдуться козаки їх перемогти. 5800x3d * 3090 * 64gb * Reverb G2
draconus Posted July 9, 2020 Posted July 9, 2020 Again this topic is three years out of date... That's actually funny because we didn't have Christen Eagle II then :) DCS doesn't have to compete with any game and we don't desire flyable airliners here so your worries are unfounded. SharpeXB Posted July 9, 2020 Posted July 9, 2020 we don't desire flyable airliners here so your worries are unfounded. Civil isn’t just airliners. So DCS has one civilian aircraft? Will it see a second? I doubt it... And yeah non-front line military aircraft in a combat environment? Maybe... I don’t personally see the appeal. But comments about civ sims tame graphics are definitely out of date. Tippis Posted July 9, 2020 Posted July 9, 2020 (edited) Civil isn’t just airliners. So DCS has one civilian aircraft? Will it see a second? I doubt it... It has five already (almost six, considering how one aircraft in particular is getting a second wind in that market). It even has a civilian campaign that is one of the most technically challenging you'll come across. So that doubt is… way out of date. Edited July 9, 2020 by Tippis ❧ ❧ Inside you are two wolves. Ourorborus Posted July 10, 2020 Posted July 10, 2020 I would love to see civilian AI aircraft. I have no interest in flying civie acft in DCS. ( I have other sims for that) but it would be great to have civie AI aircraft along with Mode 3C transponders. This would force a bit more thought into Enemy assessments. At the moment, a lack of friendly mode 2 or 4 IFF is automatically classified as an enemy, and we shoot it down. In reality this could be a civilian aircraft......

As I am the OP note the title is non combat and not civilian and the example I gave is the C130. Perhaps the title is misleading, is combat meaning that only aircraft which have weapons and can fight each other or is the notion of Combat a war between two factions. You will see that in most RTS combat games, troops need replenishing, tanks need fuel and ammo and aircraft drop their weapons and fly off the map to rearm/repair. DCS already has non combat trucks, what if during a dynamic campaign a FOB gets destroyed and you need to set up a new one, need to get a C130 in with rockets, fuel and ammo for your helicopters. It’s all part of combat.
