graywo1fg Posted December 28, 2006 Posted December 28, 2006 Cali and i were in a server and flying A-10's and took off from Anapa and was heading for targets and got down to 32 Feet and BELOW over the sea and 3 times a Mig-29 was able to lock us up and track us???? there was also an F-15 tracking us too???? it didn't end well but Cali and i had an awesome time formation flying at that altitude. :pilotfly: but seriously 32 FEET?????? awacs or no awacs how is that possible? Force_Feedback Posted December 28, 2006 Posted December 28, 2006 I guess the mig bounced its radar off some clouds.... :P 'Modern' SAM systems can track targets from 5m above the waves, so you'll have to fly lower than 16 feet not to be blown up by a S-300. Creedence Clearwater Revival:worthy:
RvETito Posted December 28, 2006 Posted December 28, 2006 That MiG must have been pretty close to you. On theory, it should be able to detect and track targets like A-10 even at this altitude but from much shorter range- say about 20km and less. "See, to me that's a stupid instrument. It tells what your angle of attack is. If you don't know you shouldn't be flying." - Chuck Yeager, from the back seat of F-15D at age 89. =RvE=
Maverick-90 Posted December 28, 2006 Posted December 28, 2006 The only way to flying that low is to do it wih alt hold. nope....2-3metres is no problem for some guys i know.....(not for me i'm going up to 8 at most times)
Pilotasso Posted December 28, 2006 Posted December 28, 2006 One owrd of advice, dont use jammers all the time because then it wont matter what altitude you are at. 1 .
GGTharos Posted December 28, 2006 Posted December 28, 2006 Of course they tracked you. What do you think a look down/shoot down radar is for? If you exceed the notch in your car it'll track you, your altitude does /not/ matter. Getting closer to the ground does not magically eliminate your radar return or doppler shift. Sealpup Posted December 28, 2006 Posted December 28, 2006 He's already up to 89? Sweet zombie Jesus! Anyways, on to the topic of NOE and angry things trying to make you cease to fly. NOE only works because it helps to put things between you and the other things trying to kill you. Stuff thats higher than you will likely still be able to see you unless there is a mountain, building, trees, large ship, or dinosaur directly between you and them.

I know there are some insufferable know-it-all moderators on the UBI soft sim forums but you have (most) of them beaten. 1
GGTharos Posted December 28, 2006 Posted December 28, 2006 And you sir, are an unparalleled fountain of useful commentary ;) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda

GGTharos Posted December 29, 2006 Posted December 29, 2006 Was he beaming you or running at the same speed as you? Then no. There's also the issue with radar modelling 'quirks' in LO - but I've rarely had problems making long-range detection of aircraft bellyscraping the water. 1 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda

Yeah I always get tracked that low. They can't hit you usually below 10m. Word of advice, don't launch an Aim7 or any R27. They drop away and explode in the water, killing yourself. I don't know that from personal experience, I've never shot my self down...honestly...it was this guy I know... 3Sqn - Largest distributor of Flanker, Fulcrum and Frogfoot parts in the Black Sea Region
