My understanding was that ordering extra accessories (base station) was ment do be done after the kickstarter campaign ended. But I cant see where to do that. Did I miss the boat on that one?

You should have received an email to complete your survey. I’ve done mine, and I think you may be able to edit your basket then.

Posted (edited)

The PIMAX is still under development and all of the stated “issues” have been reported to PIMAX - so I believe they will sort it out.

I have opted a while ago for the 2x4K(8K) with delivery in Jan 2018 using my VIVE trackers and game pads so I'm a believer in the FOV and higher resolution. having the VIVE now I'm fully in love with the immersion and the feel of flying VR so PIMAX is a way of "updating" that feeling and get rid of the "binocular" view.

Anyone telling that they “can’t” fly with the low resolution has not even tried enough flying with VR... you need giving it a bit of time - i was of the same opinion before but I have now converted and can not turn back to screen.

I’m very glad to hear that Wags is exploring the new technology and what the future will bring.

I fully believe that DCS and VR is the only way for the future!

Keep investigating and support the future VR solutions Wags! It’s the way to go!

If you already filled out the survey you may have to contact them (which you can do through your Kickstarter pledge page. If you haven't done your survey you should be able to add 1 base station 75+$10shipping=$85 to the total "dollar amount of your pledge".-Then when you do the survey you add the base station as an item at that time. They confirm completion by email. The update now shows on your Kickstarter page under the new "Survey" tab.

Pimax will update your order status right through until shipping on your personal Kickstarter page.

As an example, I ordered the 8K and 1 base station. During the survey the advise that the can ship the HMD in Jan or with the base station which won't ship until April. I chose to receive the Pimax in Jan and the base station to follow later in April.

I was pissed to be told that there was a 3month delay in receiving my base station. Looks like I’ll have to purchase a mk1 lighthouse in the interim. That, of course, is if the Pimax is delivered in Jan. I won’t be holding my breath.

No one should be pissed in few reasons.

First of all as I know all of this was explain from the beginning how on Pimax forum even before Kickstart campaign starts and on Kickstarter campaign as well.

This is normal for any kickstarter campaign not just Pimax and you have know better there is no finalized product yet so even delay is possible to expect in some kickstarter campaign. That is why Kickstarter is exist at all. Just remeber how DCS WWII starts and how long was need to finalize and it is not finished even today. Remeber whot you plagued and what you get in the end with DCS WWII.

There was even worse with Oculus Rift campaign.

So guy you have to be reasonable and if you want to expect final product straight away you should be wait then consumer version to be released to buy it regular way for increased price.

Yup, KS is not the place to go if you want the commercial boxed experience. I opted to wait until April since I have the Rift (and likely Odyssey this weekend....unless I can talk myself out of it LOL) And kinks can be worked out more.

As a Pimax backer... I actually HOPE it gets delayed. It seems like they gave themselves a really short window and might have to rush to meet a deadline... i'd rather wait and get a better product.

Agreed. I'm generally patient and will be willing to wait until spring or early summer for a solid device that works with as little lag/distortion, as near to 90Hz as possible.

I'm kicking myself for not jumping on the KS for Pimax. I opted for the Odyssey but felt those funds were better used elsewhere for a bigger jump in tech and returned it. Oh well.

BossterX, You'll just have to wait a bit longer after the KS orders are filled. So I think you'll be OK if you decide to take the plunge.

Thinking about it and it's probably the safer option waiting it out for reviews first.

Well, now Oculus have reduced the price of the Rift by so much, it doesn't make sense to sell it - and that's the only way I would be able to afford the Pimax.

That's okay, though - I will wait to see what Oculus or A.N.Other turns up with late next year or the year after. With my increasing poor eyesight I could use the higher res, but I can hack using the Rift for anothe two years - by then I may not be able to ride my bike any more (Yamaha Fazer 1000 gen 1) so I could always sell that for the necessary cash. It would make me cry, though...

Pimax are demoing the new prototype in January 9th I think they said.

They're at CES in Jan. They have said they plan on showing Prototype 4 in mid December. If we see P5 at CES they just might start shipping in Jan. I can hope.

Heres the jist of it

Hello Backers,

After a long period of time, we finally got the prototype of V4. Here is a list of V4 prototype improving and solving parts.

Hardware:

a. Optimized the IPD adjustment design and mold;

b. Changed the cloth around the lenses for better elasticity and leakproofness / better hardware IPD adjustment experience;

c. Changed the material of the CLPL holder to light-weighted alloy for better heat dissipation and strength of the headset.

Software:

a. Optimized optical design

b. Debugging with Brainwarp

c. Improving ASW algorithm

d. Developing the production testing software and tools.

Thanks

Matthew

Dear all,

While it's too early to know exactly what will come from it, we are in touch with Pimax regarding their 8K system and how we can best cooperate for an amazing DCS VR experience.

Thanks,

Matt

Any news on this ? Was hoping on you getting a prototype to play with to test frame rates and play around with software to get the best settings.

THIS is what I want tot hear and as long as you guys support VR I will basically buy all new modules which even have my slightest interest.

VR will push DCS to complete new dimensions and I am sure user base will explode once quality from HMD and performance from Sim will match (and when you can turn the switches in VR using your hand...)

When people realise they can really fly at home...

We have been flying at home for decades. I doubt VR will impact the number of people who buy flightsims that much. People don't avoid sims because of the graphics medium.

It will no doubt affect the number of flightsimmers who buy VR though, especially as it improves and gets better.

Agreed, owning a VR headset may get someone to try a flight sim that previously had not because "Hey, that looks like it might be cool in VR!", but it isn't going to bring anyone to a level where they want to read 700 page manuals and learn very complex study level sims. I don't foresee a spike in flightsim traffic directly correlated with the growth of VR adoption.

Most people who want to try flying in VR would most likely gravitate towards something like War Thunder/Ace Combat or the like, I would think...a more simplified video game type of flight sim, not something hardcore like DCS.
